Six Muslim Clerics Removed from USAir Flight for Praying
georgerussia replied to Andy9o8's topic in Speakers Corner
Bill, they were Muslims (two Muslim girls from Chechnya). * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. * -
Both cutaway and reserve pads same colour - pro's/con's please

Well, I would make it the lowest priority :) * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. * -
Thank you everybody. The only question left is how to find a spot on my googles to put a dot, so I can see what I'm shooting? If the camera box is closed, you cannot see where it points. And if the box is open, the camera is not fixed... * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

Just hit my 200 jumps milestone, and preparing to jump with camera. Checking the forum, got (probably) the right equipment - rawa helmet, sony DCR HC30, wide angle lens, obviously no stills yet. Have some questions setting everything up (tried search with no luck). 1. I've got a Rawa Imagem camera helmet with Rawa d-box. Looks like the camera is not attached to d-box itself, you just put it there, and close it with the provided screw. Is it correct, or did I miss anything? 2. What camera settings need to be changed? I have set white balance to "outdoors", focus to "manual - infinite", remote to "off". Anything else I miss? 3. Anybody has experience to install Bonehead helmet cutaway system on Rawa? I saw somebody in review mentioned that you have to drill the rivet, but it would be nice to ask someone who did it for details. BTW, is it necessary for a new camera flyer, or would it be better to wait until I have more jumps? Thank you in advance. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

I also heard he wanted to enforce 2-week reserve repack cycle, supported Darwin theory, and (shh!) drove a truck with "Jesus loves you, but everyone else thinks you're an a$$hole" sticker. Not to mention family values. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

Me too. BTW there were two AAD's - for main and for reserve. I would not jump without AAD even though I did one :) * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

I will try to comment some points. Seeing this study in the past, I found strange that some reasons are strictly related to marriage, and some are related to any long-term relationship. In my opinion those things should not be mixed in topics like "why people do not marry". Let's see it closer. The study author does not define "times past". But it does not look true anyway. It was never a challenge to get sex without marriage. Especially if you were in a long-term relationship. The only thing that changed is the society attitude to sex without marriage. This seems to be the only point where the study author makes a clear delimitation between marriage and cohabitation (long-term relationship without marriage). The only problem is that the author did not list any of those benefits, and I fail to remember any, except tax and inheritance benefits. This point is clearly marriage-related, and is correct. It becomes even more important when you look on marriage/divorce statistic. This point is not clear. Obviously you can, and a lot of people do have children in their long-term relationships. You do not have to go to marriage to have children. This point is not clear either. If a man is already in long-term relationship, getting married will probably change nothing. If a man is avoiding long-term relationships because it requires too many changes and compromises, this is not marriage-specific point, and should be part of another study. I don't see the point here. Does it mean that in "good old days" men were marrying the first person they saw? There always was, is and will be somebody looking for ideal. The number of such people should not be large though. However this may be a valid point for delimitation between long-term relationship and marriage. This is effect, not cause. If society sees no real benefits to be married compating to long-term relationship (point 2), the result is obvious. Related to both long-term and marriage. It did not really change comparing to past. Maybe the author tried to make a point that the number of women with children is nowadays larger comparing with past? This point looks senseless for me. Maybe just an excuse, or a way to avoid direct answer to the question. Any clue? Quote Reason 10: Men want to enjoy life as long as they can. This point probably implies that men cannot enjoy life in marriage. Which is not true, and therefore the point is strange at least. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

A few weeks ago received an old rig for my friend overseas. He asked me to check it. Put the container on the floor in a living room. Got a phone call. Picked up the phone, talked for a while, and decided to move the container to the room corner while still talking. Having a phone in one hand, started drawing the container on carpet by a leg strap. During this big move something (a nail head, as was confirmed later) caught the reserve ricord, and released reserve pilot chute hit me into face * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

2006 Alaska Summer Solstice Boogie

Do they require a real B license, or just "to qualify for a B license"? * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. * -
For several reasons. One of them is that if your reserve pilot chute or bridle gets entangled with your chopped main, it will flew away after the reserve is deployed, and will not affect the reserve operation. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

AFAIK it is a requirement to have AADs on tandem rigs. And in my opinion every reasonable DZ would have AADs on student rigs. Regarding fun jumpers - it depends. For example, Adventure Center Skydiving requires an AAD unless you have a D license. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

It may, or it may not. But at least it is what I know how to do, because I was taught this, and practiced it so many times. I have never practiced kicking spinning dbag out of my way, and I suspect I would suck in it. A high-speed malfunction is definitely not a time to learn a new skill. I don't know, however the chance of getting at least shoulder dislocation seems to be really high. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

Same question. Maybe the pilot chute was in the burble too? Regarding the jarrodh reaction - cudos for him. I'd chop it and pull the reserve. Trying to touch a spinning bag with lines sounds scary - what if this mess entangles with your hand, and then your pilot chute goes out of burble? * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

Heh, I was scared like h@ll through the whole AFF program - during the ride up and especially when the door is opened. I was scared even more when I completed AFF understanding that now I'm alone in the sky. So I asked my instructor to do one more post-AFF jump with me. We did it, and it was important for me. Thankfully I had great instructors, and it really helped a lot. Talk to your instructors. There is absolutely nothing to be embarassed about. Your instinct is telling you that jumping out of plane is not a safe thing, and your instinct is right. Maybe you could use more ground training, especially concentrated on emergencies. Or a good explanation how your gear works, so you can see it is really reliable. You are definitely not the first one who is scared, and your instructor can help you with this - if you ask. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

Cali appeals court upholds gay marriage ban
georgerussia replied to lawrocket's topic in Speakers Corner
The way everybody else went - through the legislation. This way we can see whether majority things that gays should have the SAME rights as others. The interracial marriage ban was basically groundless. The marriage was never defined as "union between a man and a woman of the same race". * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. * -
I don't really see a problem here. The situation when two parents have to work exists in a lot of countries around the world. I was grown in Soviet Union, where all parents were working - acually it was a crime there to be unemployed unless you are disabled or retired. As kids we were taught to be responsible for our actions from the beginning. We had everything you described, and it did not really affect most of us. In modern environment it is much easier to control all those things. For example, we do not have a broadcast or cable TV (only dvd), so it is easy to ensure the movies our daughter can see are ok. Therefore she is not TV-addicted, as none in our family is. She reads books, checks information on Internet, or plays with other children instead. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

Using a DZs fatality to hurt their business
georgerussia replied to omnus's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
IMHO it should be obvious that DZ with a lot of business will generally have more accidents happen than DZ with little or no business. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. * -
It's the same with my Triathlon 190. Never took less than 700 unless I open from track. This way it can take 500-600. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

How many AFF jumps did it take you???
georgerussia replied to live2dive's topic in Safety and Training
Took me 8 jumps, had to repeat C2 (4th jump) once. Practice on the ground a lot - that's what helped me. There is only one more AFF level (E) after D2. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. * -
[reply Does that mean you could trash pack the thing. I mean a real, just stuff it in the bag and close the container in a s quick as possible and only incur a maximum of 60 second penalty Could have it packed in 2 mins + 60 second penalty = Winner! Have you ever tried to trash pack your rig? I tried. Three times. On fourth I decided it will be faster to pack it as usual - at least to the moment the canopy is in the bag. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
