Is buying your child birth control supporting/encouraging sex?
georgerussia replied to Conundrum's topic in Speakers Corner
Well, there is a big difference between expecting your kid having sex, and admitting this expectation to the kid. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. * -
So you basically telling me that you either: - haven't read the Bible at all; - haven't understood what you read; - or just ignored everything (without asking your minister) that you did not understand. That's why I am saying that most Christians I've ever talked to like to talk about the Bible, but in fact know less of it that I do - and I'm no way a Christian. This is a shame. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

Then it again depends on assumption. What if you do expect them to have sex (and I'd say it is a reasonable expectation), and just want it to be safe? * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. * -
The restrictions did are slightly relaxed with Mikhail Gorbachev. Note that most of "unemployed" were actually mothers on maternity leave - you were allowed to take up to 3 years(!) of maternity leave in USSR. The Soviet Union as we knew it basically ended up in 1989, and things were loosening since 1986. There was still little agony, and the separation completed in next two years in 1991. However in pre-1986 USSR there were really no unemployment, because if you were unemployed (usually after returning from the jail, as it was close to impossible to fire anyone), and go to an "unemployment agency", they would basically force a company to hire you (this was an easy thing, as there were no private companies, and all of them were owned by State). If course, they would not be able to make you hired as a salesman in a grocery store, or in a slaughtering and meat processing plant (which were probably the best employment opportunities in the USSR not linked with the Communist Party), but for a locksmith or turner - this was easy. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

Then could you please explain the thing I asked you before: According to the Bible, the God is omnipotent and omniscient (which is described as "knows everything"). This means that when the God created Adam, He knew - at the moment of creation - that Adam will bite this apple (because He knows everything). And He obviously knew this when He created this tree and the serpent. This means that: - Adam was created in the way which made it impossible for him NOT to bite this apple; - the God knew it from the beginning, and did not fix it; - then the God blaming US because of HIS creation followed the pattern? - and then you are saying that the God is truth and loves us? How do you explain this? * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

I have never seen anyone objecting a person who was just saying that he believes in God/Jesus/Satan/Vodka. The problem begins when the person who believes in God/Jesus/Satan/Vodka starts saying that everyone's else beliefs are incorrect/wrong, and they gonna go to Hell. The problem starts when those people tell others that abortion and gay marriage should be illegal for EVERYONE - just because their religion says that. The problem is not the people believing in God and following some rules. The problem is when they force everyone else following the same rules. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

Bill, they did - at least in USSR being unemployed without a valid reason (serious illness, disability etc) was a felony, punishable by jail time. The reason - everyone was seriously underpaid for what you did, and that where the government earned the money to produce more nuclear warheads. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

This is because you are not going to see a doctor every time you have a sore throat. And if you do, you'll have to pay your copay, and probably face the insurance premium increase next year. But when people have free health care, seems like they tend to see doctors more frequently, and for reasons they would never visit a doctor if they have to pay for the visit. They also pay very little. Just compare the insurance rates for 25yo and 55yo. Yes, but only in theory. Tell them they'd have to pay the full amount of their doubled montly insurance premium (to cover them and someone else without insurance), which would be close to $1000/month, and see how many people are willing to pay extra $12,000 per year in taxes. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

There is no such a country in this world if you mean "where everyone has free (prepaid by everyone's taxes) access to good health care". I've lived in several countries which provide "free" public health care. They all have the same problem - a limited number of good doctors (because the best doctors go to private sector), and long waiting lines for visiting any specialist or treatment. It is typical to have a three to six-month waiting list for a CAT scan. Wanna see a dentist? No problem, you're scheduled on May 15th. Another side of government-paid health care is that basically the doctors and hospitals have no reason to improve their services, because there is no need to compete for your money. The government pays the same amount to the best doctor, and to the worst doctor anyway. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

This must be a joke. Which results in $41/month. This is really generous offer, which could obviously buy the best health insurance available. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

What's this, your salary for the first two weeks? :) * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

And where does it say He pushed the Earth, so it started turning? :) * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

Because there is no light. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

No, there is nothing in the Bible about it, so it cannot be true. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

Does it include the Sun turning around the Earth? :) * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

We are talking about having PROOF, not a book. How having an old book could be considered a proof? * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

But some of the religious people do not. I have never seen anyone going to a church telling the people that their faith is based on a opaque book which is full of contradictions. However once a month I see another bunch of people wanting to talk to me about their another God. Why don't they "live and let live"? Everyone knows where the nearest church is. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

So if I say that the Earth was developed by aliens from Jupiter, and they live with us inside apple trees (but you cannot see them because they are invisible) - you'll believe in this too? See, you don't have proof this didn't happen, do you? * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

Good. So maybe you'll be able to explain the "dying for our sins"? According to the Bible, the God is omnipotent and omniscient (which is described as "knows everything"). - and then you are saying that the God loves us? I don't see any logic here. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *

Is buying your child birth control supporting/encouraging sex?

No, but the good chance is still there. Note that "having sex once" is still having sex. Your chance of requiring AAD to save you are much lower, but still almost everyone who can afford it jumps with it. Because when shit happens you definitely do not want to belong to this statistical 0.1%. Who gave them bad reputation? Catholic church? I'd also ask what "being a slut" is, because for someone having two partners in a year, or even using a vibrator is enough to label person a "slut". * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. * -

I wonder how many teen pregnancies can be attributed to "All I heard about sex from my old fart parents was 'just say no'". It looks like you are more concerned about your own reputation (i.e. your actions) than real decisions made by the children. I fail to see the connection between having pre-marital sex and being the neighborhood slut. Could you please explain? Is it a fact or just your opinion? A lot of things happened throughout history. While some of them were the best decisions at the time made, making such a decision nowadays does not necessary mean that it is still the best. Fortunately, the society has changed, and women who had pre-marital sex are only reated as sluts by religious nuts, which I definitely do not want my daughter to marry. BTW could you explain what's wrong with pre-marital sex without bringing anything you cannot prove (and this includes all the religious bullsh*t)? Most of the time people just understood that it was not love; just sexual desire they confused with love. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. * -

A feminist comes to a bookstore and asks the salesman: - Do you have books describing why women are smarter than men? - Sure! Science Fiction is in section three. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. * -

A kid with no legs asks his mommy: - Mommy, could I get some sweets? - Sure, honey. Help yourself. - But mommy, how can I help myself, I have no legs. - No legs - no sweets! * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. * -

The real problem here is that if the teenager ignores your "simply discouraging pre-marital sex" efforts - as me and most of my friends did when we were teenagers - the result might be much worse than in "but if you do have sex, be safe" case. Basically your whole reply is based on false assumption that there is something wrong with pre-martial sex. JFYI, not everyone shares this opinion; personally I am sure that marrying someone you haven't sex with yet is the stupidest thing someone could do. And I would definitely encourage my daughter to have sex with the person she wants to marry BEFORE actual marriage - I have seen a lot of people who did not get married after this, and not getting married is much better than having a divorce. * Don't pray for me if you wanna help - just send me a check. *
