You are reading training material for students then. There are alot of things that we change as more experienced jumpers that does not follow student training guidelines.
-
So you DID drop both handles. You "lost" the cutaway handle, and "let go" of the reserve. You certainly didn't just pull the reserve out far enough to pop the reserve, look to see that it was secure in the housing, and decide to leave it there to get it later in the time that you pulled and got your hand on the reserve risers, so I am not sure why you don't just say you dropped it. It is not about whether or not you got to the ground with the handles, but whether or not you dropped them in the process of the cutaway. It's no biggie, I was just going to offer some input about dropping handles for you or others to think about when jumping HP canopies.

I can't see a reserve handle in that video. Guess I am missing it.
-
You tucked them away before you pulled your reserve?
-
You dropped both your handles? Are you using a two-handed technique?

The middle finger is a sign of respect there.

I highly doubt it had ANYTHING to do with "trusting" the student gear. I would imagine that, along with wearing all the other student gear, people dared him to jump a student rig too. Not because it would be dangerous, but because it would be funny to see him jump a big ol' rig and land a big student canopy. I am guessing that him "chickening out" is simply because he didn't want to fly a big student rig as opposed to his nice rig and canopy. I think you are completely misreading the whole thing of "chickened out."

Have you seen the shit these guys are pulling on X Games Moto-X?!!
DiggerDan replied to DiggerDan's topic in The Bonfire
Hard to believe that like 4 years ago they thought it was impossible to backflip a motorcycle, and now they are not only doing THAT, they are pulling tricks while doing it, letting go of the bike, and NOW.... a double backflip! Insane! It really is amazing to watch. -
If by "saint" you mean "not a total head case," then yes, she is a saint.

Well, after reading all of this, we can answer this question..... Why are you single?

I pefer a low profile handle. In my 2400+ jumps, i have never had anyone pull my reserve handle. Could it happen? Sure, but it hasn't. But, I HAVE had 2 malfunctions where, in reflection, I was really glad I had a metal handle to get my thumb wrapped around. There is no right or wrong choice, just a personal preference. But don't just base your decision on what all the freefly rigs are now going to or because it might get pulled by accident. There are many other scenerios you need to weigh into making the choice.

He grants you the ignorance of believing the shit that goes through your head and comes out your mouth. It is much simpler that way.

I don't watch NASCAR anymore because I think it has become increasingly dull over the years with very little passing and very few cars finishing on the lead lap, but every week I read about this guy or that guy who is mad about someone bumping him so he bumped him back or ran into him on pit road, or got into a shouting/pushing match. Every week you read quotes like, "He ran into me on purpose, so I had to pay him back." And you hear the same old story of "You hit me first." Seems to me, NASCAR drivers are just a bunch of spoiled, multi-millionaire brats, driving expensive cars around a track, whining and crying about how someone ran into them on purpose, then pouting and running their car back into that person because "they hit me first." No wonder I stopped watching it.

Do you like this month's Parachutist cover photo?
DiggerDan replied to lewmonst's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Well, it is a Yes or No question, so I am guessing that there are more people who didn't like the cover as opposed to people who did. The post didn't ask for explanations, just if we liked the cover. I personally don't like it. -
It is not just airplane parts. It is everything in this country. Same reason car insurance is so much. But I bet most of us on here wouldn't hesitate to sue someone who ran a redlight and hit us. Or worse yet, hit and killed our child. The person who ran the light might be the nicest person in the world and just made a mistake, but we wouldn't want to hear that. All we would see is a fucker who killed our child.
-
Got ya. It is still hard to compare the two. Parents of an actual skydiver will have a much different reaction as those of a first time tandem student. Parents of a skydiver have an understanding of what their child did, why they loved it, and what it meant to them, in most cases. To the parents of a tandem student, it is no different then if their child was killed on any other adventure ride. They want someone to blame ans someone to pay. If my daughter was killed on one of those river speedboat tours, I can't say for sure that I wouldn't be inclined to get "justice" either. It wouldn't matter if the speedboat guys were passionate about what they did or what waiver she filled out. Losing my daughter would change ALOT in how I think and one can't even begin to prepare for that. You have to remember that the general public just looks at our sport as a bunch of whackos who jump out of perfectly good airplanes and look at tandem rides as just another carnival ride. When a family loses their loved one to a tandem ride or plane ride, all thet see is a group of careless people who killed their loved one. They are going to be pissed and want someone to pay. It happens EVERYWHERE, not just our sport. I can understand it. It may be shitty, but I certainly can see how this reaction happens and understand what their view of our sport is.
-
Not sure why people are so shocked about this. I have seen similar lawsuits many times invoving tandem passengers who have been hurt or killed. Most don't win, but they will certainly try. When we run a business which gives skydives to the general public, we are taking the risk of this happening knowing full well that these suits are going to happen. The general public knows squat about our sport, and it doesn't matter what waiver you have them fill out, especially when the person who signed the waiver is killed. In most cases, the family of the deceased was probably not real keen on the idea anyway, so when something like this happens, they are even more inclined to get "revenge." As long as we keep offering skydives to the public, we are going to have to suck it up and take these lawsuits when they come. But don't act so damned shocked when they do. When I read this post I was like, "Well, DUH!" There is a whole sector of the public just waiting to pounce on shit like this and make money from it. It is simply a fact of our sport.

Not sure if it is sticky YET, but now that he finally got someone to talk about sex again, I am sure he is pressed back up to his monitor working feverishly on that little guy of his. Can't you just hear him...."Come on, come on, please reply again about sex. Please, please please! I am almost there!"
