Exactly right. If you don't agree, don't join. No one held him down and made him do anything. Fuck that shit. I served in the Navy and Army guard, and am a Gulf War vet, and this argument just doesn't pass muster. I was just 18 when I signed up, and NOBODY ever explained to me that I could be called back for 8 years. Hell, I couldn't even drink a beer, and you think it's reasonable to expect a person at that age to understand the effect that signing a peice of paper with little understanding of the legal consequences could have on their life? Sorry, no. I don't blame this guy one bit. And if I were him, I'd rather be in jail stateside for a while than in a coffin that nobody was allowed to photograph. Bring back the draft. It is unavoidable. -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down.

In my wild younger days we got lots of nice, thoughtful young ladies to flash us, and a bit more. Our cunning tactic? Pull up beside them on the freeway, hang out the window and yell "Show us your tits!" It worked more often that you would think. (not often, but still more than you would think). But following them for any length of time would be a bit creepy. -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down.

Anyone else? I mean, nothing broke up the day like a sick, demented troll on the yahoo boards to break up the day. And the best thing was, all of the sickest trolls got all of the RECs! I need that back! I even bought a domain (newstrolling.com) to offer a similar service since yahoo took it away. Should I go forward with the site? It would need lots of php/sql, and I'm not sure I have the energy/time.... -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down.

You seem to be getting ahead of yourself. Wouldn't the public outcry you speak of, be just as loud against any effort to actually reinstate the draft? What are Bush's approval numbers now? 30%? So, you would think a draft would get at least a 30% approval. That seems good enough for the Bushies. If Americans are not willing to let their children fight, but willing to let SOMEONE ELSE'S kids die for them, what does that say about America? No more free rides, I say. The benefits of bringing back the draft are numberous, with the most important one being a righting of our foreign policy machine. -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down.

Tony, OK. I thought it was obvious in my post.... When parents are forced to pull kids out of college to send them to die, the outcry will be so intense that the war will be ended in weeks. Now, why do you think that would not be the case? -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down.

I'm 4-A as well, I think (honorable discharge from Navy and Army Guard and Gulf War vet). I am FOR the draft for one reason - it would put an immediate end to this stupid ass war. Unless the war affects people's lives directly, or the lives of their children, they could care less who dies in it. Start pulling kids out of college, and see what happens. War needs to be a burden shared equally in this country. At the start of a conflict ALL Americans need to realize that they may have to fight - when that happens we will start fighting the truly necessary wars, and these 'wars of choice' will end. -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down.

I'm 12 years x 3, and I'm addicted to SOCOM. If they had it when I was 12, I would have loved it. And the new versions of SOCOM have no blood. -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down. -

I have a Mosin Nagant M44 that will make people leave the range if you put a muzzle brake on it. Even without the brake the folks on the next bench get a nice thump on each shot. -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down.

Sight alignment (or in this case a laser dot or other optic help) is only 1/4 of the battle for a shot to be on target. The rest of the shot is in breath control and trigger control. Right, but only critical at long ranges, or very small targets. -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down.

No, you weren't. This was horrific; there was a lot of doubt about whether he was going to live in the beginning, and if he did, how much brain damage there would be from the stomping. I also think the death penalty is excessive, but this was a truly awful beating/stomping, for the most arbitrary and fuck-you-my-momentary-feelings-are-what-matters kinds of rationale. And particularly the main perpetrator really should be isolated from society, for society's protection. He's shown an escalating pattern over the years. Wendy W. I don't remember you standing beside me in that basement...... Well, but then again, I WAS blindfolded........ -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down.

Allowing a laser for people with poor vision is a good idea. I think lasers should be OK for anyone. If it means less chance of an off target bullet, it's a good thing. But my lighted crosshairs are good enough for me.... -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down.

Sodomized with an umbrella, eh? I think the death penalty is just a BIT extreme. I was hazed worse than this pladging a fraternity. -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down.

Any sort of systematic witch hunt is a violation, whether they ask for permission or not. Here's an example of why: Criminals could use this tactic to perpetrate crimes. Knowing that police are doing this, they simply knock on a door in the target neighborhoods, and announce "Police, please open the door." The citizen opens to door in the spirit of good faith, and the crooks use the opportunity to commit a home invasion, which is increasingly common in my area. In addition, asking for permission to search houses at random (yet in certain neighborhoods) violates the notion of presumed innocence. By asking to search, they are indicating that the person, MAY have committed a crime, and then try to find out. Policies like this take us right into the world of police state. -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down. -

So, could they show up with a dog barking at your house and use that as probable cause? Good question, I don't know the answer. I do know of someone that had their property (apartment) searched because an officer stated that they could smell marijuana outside of the apartment. Depends on the jurisdiction. In some states that would be probable cause, AND enough exigency of circumstances (imminent destruction of the evidence if you take the time to get a warrant) to allow a warrantless search. In other states, it would still be probable cause, but only enough to support a search warrant. I'm convinced those dogs are trained to 'hit' whenever the cops want them to. that way it gives them an excuse to violate the rights of citizens. They can just say, if they find nothing, "Oh well, blame it on the dog." Are there any actual cases of dogs being used to initiate a warrantless search? Whenever I read thread like this I feel an urge to run out and join a militia. I don't..... but I do get the urge. -------------------------- Chuck Norris doesn't do push-ups, he pushes the Earth down.
