We tested out the difference between the Sigma and the Canon 15mm. The Canon has just a tiny biy less "curveture" on the edges of the picture. And maybe a tiny hair faster the auto focus. If you guys going to compare lenses make sure your camera settings are exactly the same, including auto focus mode (AI-servo, One shot, or AI focus) and use RAW files. If you're using JPG, the picture settings needed to be matched as well (sharpness, saturation, contrast etc...) otherwise the cameras will process different images There's one negative thing about the Sigma 15mm, when you using manual focus the numbers are missleading on the focus ring. -Laszlo- www.laszloimage.com I used the Sigma for the attached files (auto focus, having the Sun in the back ground!!!)

Yes, they're deffinetley look better. But I can't tell for 100% 'cause the size (not the full res.) of the images. Remember that 18-55mm kit lens is made out of plastic! So it could have worn out as it's been used over the past few months. Micrscopic scracth on the elements, all the gear inside etc... and as I said all made of plastic. I would try another lens (a good one) -Laszlo- by the way, nice bird-man shots!

To take a nice "action Shot" with the 18-55mm kit lens is quiet difficult. To set that lens up for manual focus in "Tv" setting (exposure is controlled by apature which effects on depth of field) is nearby impossible. I recommend a better lens, full manual exposure or "Av" for manual focus and RAW. Also as I see the picture was taken over Skydive City, so maybe Tony Hathaway can help you as well. -Laszlo- www.laszloimage.com

Got a HC3? Can you take photos whilst filming?
Laszloimage replied to xavenger's topic in Photography and Video
How do you manage to have an external shutter release? Are using the cameras remote, or the LANC , or hacked into the HC3? I just want to find out how could I use it with my bite-switch? Thanks! -Laszlo- www.laszloimage.com -

"I'm a pretty good TM-I, my success rate is 95% which qualifies for grade-A, if this one will go OK I'll reach 96%!"

That's nice man! I know how hard to get thos sun set ones. My favorites from the last week-end's rained out Ranch swoop meet. The rest of them are on my web site: www.laszloimage.com

I reffered to that case as well "(except when I have some extremly screwed up passenger...)" Working as a team means the camera person should recognize those situations and don't expect the best shot. As an Tandem instuctor these cases I normally let know my camera person my priority will be to save my own and my "cargo's" ass and secondary to give him or her a good shot. Also I truly belive that on the tandem jump the camera guy should show just as much responsibility as the instrructor since she or he just as much part of the skydive. And one more thing...The end-credits in the movies normally starts with the actors and actresses and then furher down comes up the canera crew. This means the "GOOD SHOT" requires good acting (work with the camera dudeas an TM-I) not only a good camera staff. BlueS! -Laszlo-

Arvel, That's a very nice shot in the Parachutist Sept. issue from you. They should have used your picture in the photo finish instead of that blurie head-down picture. -Laszlo-

Airlock tandem canopy??? Come on guys...let's get a cross-braced tandem main! Can you imagine something like "SigmaExtreme-271"? That would cool... BlueS!
-
I guess it's not only the camera guy's job to get the "shot". I think the tandem instructor and the camera person should work together as a team. When I'm doing tandems I keep FLYING whith my camera dude (except when I have some extremly screwed up passenger...), which includes heading right from the exit, drouge delay, pull altitude, etc. So when I shoot video I expect the same thing, which dosen't always happen... I don't know the Pinaccle software but I know all the good editing softwares have the fallowing setting before you render the video: Field order A, Field order B, and Frame Based. Consumer video cameras are usally recording interlaced video, which is normally "A" or "Lower Field" (means the same thing) So make sure your "Field Order" settings are maintained from the capturing all tha way through the rendering if you want to have a smooth slow motion effect. BlueS!

I would take DSE's advices and in addition I would also buy a good printer (Epson R-1800, Canon I-9900, or one of the better HP) Beleive it or not with those printers you can get a LOT better quality prints than Target's or Wal-Marts's. But as I started take DSE's words and make sure all your settings are ok from the monitor to the printer, back to the computer... -Laszlo- www.laszloimage.com

I'v been useing HP's, but for a year now I'm printing with the Epson R-1800. Superior quality! The Canon I-9900 is pretty good too and definetly faster, but the Epson R-1800 has better details, colors and features. BlueS!

That's a very nice shot. Here's mine, 97yrs old from the Ranch in Aug 05 BlueS!

I'm using (not mine) one of those 14mm lenses. They are awesome! But I don't see the $1300 differece using it on the 1.6 factor cameras. But it deffinetly has and advantage on the full frame cameras like Ds-1 or 5D. Also we tested the difference between the Sigma and the Canon 15mm lenses. The Canon performed just a tiny hair better in the low light-auto focus-auto exposure mode. And just a little less curve on the edges on the pictures. But the Sigma used to be $150 cheaper awhile ago and still works great. Now days it's almost the same price for either of those lenses so I would buy the Canon. BlueS! -Laszlo- www.laszlimage.com

The 30D doesn't have a stereo jack. It uses the same 3 pin jack as the D60, 10D, or the 20D. Check out the "Pro Mouth Switch"! It's ready to go. More info: www.ranchproshop.com or (845) 255-2252

Thank you!

Thanks man! Yes I always use flash except on the big-ways at day light. In the 5k picture unfortunately the flash wasn't recycled yet... I had to "fix" it a bit on the software. Also I shoot in RAW and manual exposure. I use both manual and auto focus depends on the circumstances.

I use DVD Workshop-2 from ULEAD. I can create virtually anything, like motion menus with motion back grounds, sub menus, chapters, and basiclly evrery existing DVD features.
