Was browsing through dropzone.ru - noticed that they had boogie to set a record for biggest formation pf skydivers who have the same first name (Dmitry). That had 37 Dmitry's jump, 20 make a formation and 8 make a freefly formation. Is it a real record? I could imagine somebody can set up an attempt like that around here for, say, Bob's, or Steve's?

No. This is a picture posted there. (Incident waiting to happen?) I am so sorry everybody got so upset. I apologize.
-
If this is not an incident - what it is? Sorry to offend incident police, of course..
-
"Dva kryla" means "two wings". The other writing is the name of the guy who took the picture.
-
Why? Is not a two-out an incident? Why would you need all the bloody details? Guy got a two-out and apparently landed safely - made for a nice picture. I just saw the picture on a russian site.

Reserve deployment attempted? CYPRES? .. Scary..

Radioactive design..

Mirage. You get what you pay for. And then some..

Yest' neskol'ko.. A chto?

You know. If I only had this posts to look at, I would trust Tom by a large margin. I am not an expert at all - but just judging by the quality of the arguments presented.. Of course we all have more then this posts to look at, so poor presentation style will not be that important.. P.S. How are NASA (and O.T.H.E.R. space agency) tests of Crossfire going?

Hm. Is it just a remote possibility that other people have an opinion different then yours? Just asking..

Mmm.. 150 exit lb on 170, moving to 120 is a jump from 0.88 to 1.25 a jump of 0.37 230 exit 1.35 to 1.91 a jump of 0.56 Your math is a tiny bit off.. But the conclusion is not..

Experimental russian canopy formed nose on end cells?

Maybe this one? -
Fair enough. But what about VTEC vents? Or some other trick to improve pressurization when sinking in - would be nice to have the ability to land it almost straight down, if needed. Is it feasible?
-
I do. Writing up a Ph.D thesis titled "Searching for the dark side of the universe" (I studied black holes, and took part in an experiment for dark matter search) it is hard to ignore this issue.. I am not part of any organized religion though.. That is a matter of definition. My point was, that observing any particular structure in your reality does not constitute proof that this structure has any particular meaning (or transcendental design of any kind) Beautiful and complex thing arise from simplest rules.
-
In a year or two from now you will feel that her leaving you was the best thing that happened in your life.
-
You mix up your perception of reality with reality. A good example: take a look at some fractal sets. Most people would agree they are beautiful, yet they are generated by simplest mathematical rules. The, that you perceive complex fractal images as "complex" and "beautiful" is just your perception - not the fact they they ARE complex and beautiful.. We are not an independent observer.

Is it feasible to use BASE construction tricks on a reserve? Like all this "tail" pocket, gates, VTEC vents.? Even fully releasable steering lines? Or trimming it in such way, that is is suposed to be landed by rear risers. Though, it is hardly needed - have not heard much about problems with reserves - unless in a two-out..

Aahh... childhood memories.. "Before my comrades, I solemnly swear: to live, to study and to work according to the will of Great Lenin" (my crappy translation - sounded much nicer in Russian). "The flag of the Fatherland, the happiness of the people - leading us to the triumph of the Communism" Would that work too? Hey, communists claimed exactly the same ideals - justice, prosperity, high moral values. My high school friends were all nice kids - even though they all were atheists. They did not do drugs - well maybe some vodka You say - communist's practice was different that stated ideals - I say - same for the Christians, or any other major believe system. Just look at our respected child molesters.. err... priests. How is these "under God" rituals are any better then "Young Communist League" rituals? Stated purpose was the same.. That what particularly freaks me out - I have been to the other side of this story - that started in 1954 with this pledge addition. It looked awfully the same shit.

And you somehow believe that insisting on existence of some supernatural being (in whom we, also, "trust") will somehow make them inherently more moral? To value life? Just like Crusaders did? What a bunch of bullshit. I am not anti-religion - but somehow it happened that the most amoral, nasty and disgusting people I met where highly religious.
-
>The above quote doesn't say anything about the >separation of church and state. All it says is that >you can't pass laws favoring one religion over >another. >Try again.... Phrase "In God we Trust" assumes there is God, and whoever uses the money trusts in "him". That's government imposing one, quite narrow, view of the world. That violates 1st amendment.
-
>"In God we Trust" Well - having something printed out somewhere does not bother me. Requiring young kids to recite some mumbo-jumbo whacky ideas of a particular monothestic religion does. Religion has no place in public schools.

>It doesn't have to be on every fiber in the bundle to reduce the strength of the line. As I said - theoretical data is useful as long as it is backed up with experiment - and PA experiments show quite a good life span. I assume they test broke that 1000 jump linesets.. That would be a good reference - table of experimental breaking strength parameters, done at reline time - cobaltdan should have something like it, as he seems well informed. Maybe manufacturers should just publish tested strength of linesets sent to him for relining - a good subset of them at least.. Climbing webbing was tested like that frequently, very educational (especially break strength of webbing left to rot for few winters - at the knot.. still god knows how often a failed to back it up.. ;)) And that for sure is not the only type of line to break. Maybe people do not stove them too well? So thin and slippery? Like double fisherman not on spectra cord does not work..

>4 hours of sunlight exposure isn't too hard to get It is hard to get - on every fibre in the bundle, and usually rope would get some UV absorbing stuff on it as well. Only outer ones would get the direct exposure. PA claimed to have line sets with well above 1000 jumps on it. So probably UV is not an issue. Abrupt failure mode - with little visible defects, may be an issue.. Hm.. And somehow I doubt the 60% figure. Sources? Why not to use kermantel construction, or some UV absorbing dye?
