  1. If they don't have backups of their own emails I'm sure they remembered to back up OUR emails. It's actually embarrassing to think that this administration thinks that we believe this line of shit. What we need to do is act like the auto industry and offer Bush an early retirement package. 'Here take this 100MM and go back to your ranch and leave us the hell alone'. Then hold an early election, can't let Chaney take over or he'd find a way to screw us even worse before his term was up.
  2. People on Youtube just troll and flame like anywhere else. They just do it to get a rise out of people, I don't even bother reading them 99% of the time.
  3. There's been posts all over the net over this video. Some say it's fake, and I hope that's the case. Either way it's disgusting. There's also many posts of the soldiers personal information and who to contact for complaints.
  4. I liked wearing my 12 loop Dr Martins because I felt they gave me more ankle support and protected my feet. They only had shoe lace grommets, no hooks or snag points. I wore them until mid AFF and then bought a pair of Airwalks after hearing/reading incidents where someone had to kick off a shoe. They're pretty comfortable but I've had a couple mysterious bruises and broken toe nails after a day at the DZ so I might be looking into something a little more sturdy.
  5. My home DZ isn't open during the winter, I think because we have a grass runway and would require more maintenance? But there are some of us who travel to Rochester to jump on the weekends. I just wear a base layer, jeans, turtle neck, face mask, and gloves under my jump suit and I'm not cold. On very brisk days I've worn latex gloves under my batting gloves and it keeps them warm. Rochester also has a heated hanger so your really only cold for a couple minutes, unless your like me and land in the back of the field and have to walk through a foot of snow all the way back
  6. I'm not saying ALL, but a person over ~55 is more likely to get their information exclusively from Fox, CNN, MSNBC etc than someone in the 18-30 range. Nonsense. http://i.a.cnn.net/cnn/SPECIALS/2005/online.evolution/interactive/chart.online.life/online.evolution.us.by.age.jpg
  7. I'm not saying ALL, but a person over ~55 is more likely to get their information exclusively from Fox, CNN, MSNBC etc than someone in the 18-30 range. Obviously anyone reading these forums would know how to use a PC, just wanted to clarify before I get lynched
  8. That's possible. I can't find the interview now but was able to find a statement he made where he said taking the money out of politics will take the corruption out, but can't find the exact interview I'm thinking of.
  9. I mean fluff as in telling the people what they want to hear. Telling us that we can afford to continue to police the world and fund the war in Iraq and at the same time afford a socialist health care system and lower taxes. Right, he's against contribution limits and subsidized campaigns. I remember hearing somewhere that he mentioned one way to make the campaign system fair would be to have all campaigns get $X.xx and that's it. Of course now that I'm looking for the quote I can't find it.
  10. That's where the media permits come into play. Most Americans believe whatever the magic box in their living room tells them, particularly the older generations who are not familiar with the internet enough to research on their own. The media is extremely biased towards any third party, they are excluded from most if not all major debates and get next to no air time. If you loosen their grip by allowing more competition you will start to see those different views come into the 'main stream' media.
  11. That happened to me on my AFF IV except I just pulled them under my chin and tried to continue the dive but my instructor told me to pull. I was able to stay calm and fix everything during the dive, but I'll be damned if I wasn't shaking like a leaf when I sat down afterwards to debrief!
  12. I'm not sure if they would all work either, but I trust that he knows what he is talking about since his plans aren't filled with the usual 'fluff' you hear everywhere else. He also says that he wouldn't be able to get everything done in 8 years anyhow, but it would be a great start. Some of the simpler things alone would help this country immensely. For example just opening up the media permits and government funded presidential campaigns would put an end to this media circus we call an electoral process as well as eliminate a large part of the lobbyist influence on our candidates(Clinton cough cough).
  13. I disagree, he may have many years in the Senate but that doesn't necessarily make him an 'insider' in the same respect that doesn't mean Obama is not. By insider I mean their position on issues and the way to fix them etc, not necessarily their tenure in congress. I guess I was just avoiding saying they need to 'think outside the box'.
  14. Closest mainstream or potential winner we have is Obama, and even he is not close to what we really need. I agree he's better than McCain, Hillary, and Huckabee though...but I'm going to keep my hopes up that the seas will part and Dr Paul will win
  15. I would love to see someone who is 'outside the circle' win office and shape up Washington. Unfortunately the media would never let that happen, just look at what happened to Ron Paul this year. If the MEDIA considers you radical and un-electable then no one will know you are running. Until the system changes we will have the same people with different faces telling us how wonderful the world will be with them in office, only to be taking $$ from lobbiests that they will have to pay back one way or another and leaving us, the American citizens, left with the same shit different day.
  16. I'm doing both :o) I spoke with our head instructor and he's going to see if we have enough interested parties at our Safety Day to have a coach come to our DZ this year. Our season doesn't start until April/May so I was looking to travel for a course before then and just take both classes. If all else fails I could travel to the Ranch and take the course this summer, it's only a couple hours away.
  17. Set in his ways as it pertains the the Constitution yes. Would you rather vote for someone who runs on a pro-choice platform and decides to vote pro-life afterwards? Or for a candidate who runs a non-intervention campaign, then decides they want to police the world after they get in office? I would like to vote for someone who I know will uphold their end of the bargain after elected rather than tell me what I want to hear in order to get my vote. Uh . . . you don't know me very well do you? Wink Nope, I certainly don't. Just saying that sounds like a very Fox or main stream media point of view.
  18. You do have potheads supporting him for his stance on abolishing the 'war on drugs', but most of his supporters(based on contributions) are techies or active military. He's the only candidate with a rock solid voting record, and does not waiver on his stance on issues. I think you need to go back to watching Faux.
  19. What does Ron Paul have to do with Ross Perot, aside from initials? Ron Paul has money, but not his own, it was given to him by middle class Americans and active duty military. The Ron Paul 'movement' will not stop at the election. This candidate has brought many people who are fed up with the Fed 'out of the wood work' and together forming new social networks. The r3VOLution will continue past 08
  20. Since having a tight chest strap can cause the slider to hang long would it be safe to say this would cause a slower opening? I've been looking for ways to safely speed up the openings of my Spectre and this might be the reason. Since I'm new I like to have the chest strap tight, don't want my ass falling out of the harness!! I like the idea of checking the MLW and having someone try and pull the rig down on you.
  21. Thanks for the link, I'll definitely check it out. One of the main reasons I wanted to take the course is because I'm uncomfortable with traffic. Right now I'm jumping at a Cessna DZ and I get nervous with even 3 other canopies in the air. Which contributed to me landing off down-wind this past weekend. Hopefully a course will help with my confidence/comfort level as well as skill set.
  22. Jim's class looks like exactly what I'm looking for, unfortunately I can't find anyone in my area that is able to travel on 3/1 to go with me and it'd be a waste to drive all the way there by myself. I'm still looking but he only had two slots available so chances are they will fill up before I find someone to car pool with. Thanks for all the replies I'll keep looking, worse case I'll just have to wait a couple months and take one at my home DZ this season.
  23. I am just outside Buffalo. March in VA sounds decent though it's a drive because it'd be warmer and give me a chance to get this training before the beginning of our season.
  24. Do you have any information on the DZ & course? I checked the site, but all it has is AFF & tandem info.
  25. I'm looking for a good 'beginners' canopy course in the Northeast/East coast area. Any suggestions?
