  1. Yet by saying "that helpful" you do concede it would be of some aid. Maybe next time, deal with absolutes in your arguments... Actually, I might just agree with you on this one. Until the Civil War, true power resided within the states and the federal system was just a way to bind them. The Confederate States seceded as was their constitutional right, if they didn't want to be part of the country any longer. The northern states sure didn't like the possibility of a raw materials crisis, or price gouging from this splintering, so they strengthened the federal government and empowered it to go retake the states of the Confederacy. Unfortunately, ever since that time, the federal government has taken precedence and grown in strength over the states it represents. Was the loss of life really worth it, given the state of affairs we live with today? Yeah, right. How many guns, weapons, tanks, aircraft, bombs, etc. does the United States government own? How many specialized guns developed specifically for covert assassinations has the CIA invented or contracted for invention and development? Now, lemme ask you something else since you've learned so much: Why is Castro still alive? mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills.
  2. Oh my god! Trap, you are not talking about your mom on here are you? Let the games begin... mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills.
  3. Just wanted to add that I was just told you landed about two or three minutes before we, on the sunset load, landed. There was a two-wheel drive truck with people (including a TM) and radios en route to pick you up before you were below the other side of the treeline. I cannot say why they did not make it to you. You'd have to ask them. Further, you were not in the air for 45 minutes. You were in the air for 20 minutes, at most. Then again, what would any story be without some embellishment? I am sure there'll be lots of folks at the dz this weekend who'd love to talk to you, if you wanna discuss your grievances further. You might be surprised how friendly the folks there actually are, being the place is a club, not a DZO op. Maybe, just maybe, we can all learn some lessons from your experience. Otherwise, like Freaky said, be happy you get to jump another day. It's totally your choice where you do it... mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills.
  4. Bwwwwwwwwwwwwaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahaaaaaaaahaaaaaaaaa ahem ditto. Peckerhead, (nice name btw) See if she can do flex time! I live in the boonies (if there is such a thing around here). I am happily about a half hour from Skydive Orange and 50 miles from Fairfax. Coming in to work after HOV opens up and the traffic subsides (after 930) gets me there in 50 minutes. (I drive like a bat out of hell though.) I could be parked at the Metro station in Vienna in 60 minutes. The commute wears on me at times, but going home at night to dark, starry skies and clean air is a decent trade-off. Flex time and a longer distance are the ways to go! Just stay in the damn right lane if you're not passing! mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills.
  5. Hey there, First off, I am curious as to why you waited a week and a half to discuss this subject. Anyway... I was on the sunset load. As we were waiting for the otter to come down, I distinctly remember hearing quite a buzz about the "guy who had to ride the plane down because he forgot his goggles" (lack of goggles is just a good reason to lead a tracking dive, btw.) who had a premature opening at 13k. As I recall, the otter pilot was taking a lot of extra time coming down because you were open so high. There were people who were watching out for you, including the entire load that went up after yours. Most of the dz was well aware of what you did and was keeping track of what you were doing. You were under canopy for 25 minutes, at most. Did the toggles not work? Could you not spiral through the faster moving air at altitude to get to the lower, slower stuff? I know that I personally wouldn't want--with loads going up every 20 minutes or so--to be hanging out under canopy, especially around opening altitudes on a big, ass canopy. I find your some of your later statements to be completely unfounded and nearly slanderous. I am out at that dz almost every weekend. My truck has picked up probably around 50 off-field jumpers in the last two years. I don't care who the fuck they are or where they normally jump. If I see a canopy which isn't gonna make it back, I am notifying manifest of my intentions on my way to the truck. I am just one of many who do this. Thanks to some very heads-up skywatchers out there, I have been able to get out early enough to meet people at their out as they land. I remember an off landing at sunset several months back by a jumper who had never been to this dz before. The jumper landed on the other side of the highway behind a treeline in an area with few outs. We had six or seven vehicles of people with cell phones and walkie-talkies out looking and yelling for her, well into dark. As it turned out, the jumper landed safely, but didn't go to the road. Instead, she beelined through the woods toward the dz. Point being, nobody knew where she was gonna end up so we coordinated a larger "search" party. People saw where you were going. An adequate number of people went out to get you. They assumed the responsibility of getting you without knowledge of what they were getting into in order to get to where you were landing. If they didn't feel they could handle it without resorting to walking, they should not have volunteered to be your pickup and let someone else go. Being on the load, I don't know where you landed, but from the descriptions here, I gather you landed at McNasty's about one mile or so away from the dz. McNasty's farm is gated and fenced. The pickup point is generally known to be up the driveway to the road. (I think I recall something in the SIM about heading toward roads if you land off????) Going through the fields to get there, while lots of fun in 4-wd, is a waste of energy. I guess you feel slighted. Sorry for that. Next time, we'll shut down the DZ and ALL come looking for YOU. We'll call the fire department and put the cessna up. I got a friend with some good hunting dogs too, so next time yer down, lemme know so I can pick a few up. Do you need anything else? Warm towels? Kleenex? l8r, mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills.
  6. GE--We bring good things to light!!!!! An acquaintance of mine owns a few of those things. They are cost prohibitive both in the price of the firearm itself and the ammo it eats. That is, unless you own a company which specializes in reloading and reloading products. mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills.
  7. I think yer talking about two different guns. The USP is a handgun (Universal Service Pistol). Maybe you meant the UMP? I think the UMP stock is kinda nice, although the rest of the gun is sorta clumbsy compared to the MP5 line. Because of the import "assault weapons" BS, the USC (UMP for civilians) does have some extra crap on the stock which makes it a thumbhole deal. IMHO, the SL-8 (.223 Rem) thumbhole stock sucks donkey dick. mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills.
  8. The CMP guns aren't the same guns of a decade or two ago. (It is the Corporation for the Promotion of Rifle Practice & Firearms Safety, Inc. now afterall, since Congress decided to fix something that wasn't broken.)The prices have at least doubled and the average quality has decreased, from what I have seen. DoD M14s continue to be chopped up, rather than converted to semi-auto and sold through the CMP, but that my friends, is another story. I think Springfield Armory's M1 Garands are of at least equal value to what the CMP's got. Oh yeah, as for the original post. I might own a gun or two. mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills.
  9. Just for shits and grins, I looked it up. Based simply on census numbers, I disagree with your statement. Highlights: Total Population of the United States (2000): 281,421,906 Total Population of Canada (2001): 29,639,030 Total Population of whites in US: 211,460,626 Total Population of whites in Canada: 25,655,185 Minority Population Percentage of US: 25% Minority Population Percentage of Canada: 13% Nearly half of the US minority population is black. Two-thirds of Canada's minority population is of Asian decent. mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills.
  10. Then you missed one of my points. Justifiable homocide is the number we're talking about. Justifiable homocide is not the number times a gun was used to kill in self defense. Justifiable homocide is a time a gun was used to kill in self defense as adjudicated by a court and reported to the FBI, which deals in crime statistics. If a prosecutor does not file charges, the FBI doesn't get a number. mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills.
  11. You're representing Canada as having a more diverse cultural, racial and religious background than the United States? Gee, I must have missed that somewhere. Please enlighten me. mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills.
  12. But, that's not to say the analogy made by the VPC is not misleading. Justifiable homocides are defensive uses of firearms which are adjudicated by a court to be as such. The number quite possibly does not reflect defensive killings which have not been prosecuted or brought before a court for adjudication. Simply, that number tries to distract the reader from the quantitative studies of overall firearms uses in the prevention of crime, which have been thoroughly researched, observed and recorded by Prof. John Lott and Dr. Gary Kleck. Their studies have shown that concealed carry reduces crime in states which adopt CCW laws and that there are in excess of 2,000,000 self-defensive uses of firearms EACH YEAR. I know the folks at the VPC would love to downplay the statistical evidence documented by Lott and Kleck. But in doing so, they minimize the costs of life--"Only" 184 homocides were justifiable in 2002. More than twice that were hit by lightning. Wow, what a trivial outlook. Isn't it preferable that simply brandishing a firearm will deter a criminal? I believe it is. mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills.
  13. Ooops. My apologies go out again. So, just to get it straight, saying that someone is misinformed because they base an argument on an apples becoming oranges propaganda piece is a personal attack? It certainly wasn't meant to be, but I will amend my post so this thread can live a long and educational life. Edit: I cannot edit that line out since the edit feature is no longer available. If you would like to edit that single line from my post, please do. mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills.
  14. Any time you make it out to Northern Virginia, please look me up. I'd love to show you some aspects of shooting and owning firearms you probably never dreamed of. mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills.
  15. And the root of the matter is society. Please name one other society which has the diversity in backgrounds, religions, races, creeds, colors, etc. Compound that with the pace at which we live our lives in this society. Add in the influence of the media and the entertainment dollar value of violence. Sprinkle in the competitive nature of our society and the fact our children are far-too-often neglected in the pursuit of the almighty dollar. Add a dash of societal acceptance of quitting vows and breaking homes. Ya might say there's no other society in the world quite like ours. Someone called it a melting pot a few dozen decades ago. I call it a pressure cooker. Then you might want to be a little more selective of what utter BS fuzzy math "studies" you base your arguments on. mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills.
  16. So, any clue as to how many AK47s are actually used in homocides? Any clue as to the ratio between homocides committed with "assault weapons" and with the handguns you admit to seeing as okay? The media has done a wonderful job on misinforming you. Where do you think I developed my fondness, proficiency and deep respect for firearms, especially those dreaded "assault weapons?" As one of Uncle Sam's Misguided Children, my dear boy. mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills.
  17. And if you find three apples under an apple tree, your pears will be ripe. The fiction you base your entire argument upon was written by Karen Brock, an "analyst" for the Violence Policy Center, and otherwise unpublished, to the best of my knowledge. The VPC is an extremist organization which calls for the ban of all firearms. Brock has also written unfounded rebuttals to Prof. John Lott's book, More Guns, Less Crime. While his work has been challenged frequently, it was researched so thoroughly, I am yet unaware of anyone who has developed unrefuted evidence against his findings. In fact, in one of her "studies" she states that Hispanics have a lower rate of gun ownership than the rest of the population. "Hispanics are far less likely than blacks or whites to own guns," the study maintains. "Only 11 percent of Hispanics own guns, compared to 16 percent of blacks, and 27 percent of whites." She further states that "Hispanic households had significantly higher rates of property crime, burglary, and theft than non-Hispanic households." She goes on to add "That year [1997], Hispanics had a total firearm injury (fatal and nonfatal) rate 2.8 times that of whites," also "Hispanics are more likely than those in other racial/ethnic groups to be victims of violent crimes involving strangers," the study continues. "77.4 percent of Hispanics were murdered with a firearm—the highest percentage for any racial or ethnic group...Handguns were used in 69.5 percent of all Hispanic homicides—once again the highest of any racial or ethnic group." I am sorry, but what logic is she using to realize that more guns equals more crime? She actually proves the point of what she is arguing against! Less guns equals more crime!!!! The numbers she states about women and violence, which you outlined, may well be factual in some contexts. But upon analyzation, her conclusions and misrepresentations are unfounded. Is it surprising that most women know their killer? Is it surprising that most killings happen during an argument? Is it surprising that when a woman used a firearm in self defense (wow, did she actually admit to that in her "study?"), she knew the person she defended herself against? She says "The overwhelming majority of homicides among females by male offenders in single victim/single offender incidents in 2001 were not related to any other felony crime. Most often, females were killed by males in the course of an argument—usually with a firearm. In 2001 there were 1,541 incidents in which the circumstances of the homicide between the female victim and the male offender in single victim/single offender incidents could be identified. Of these, 86 percent (1,320 out of 1,541) were not related to the commission of any other felony." In the very next paragraph, she states the truth: "Of the non-felony homicides, 65 percent (862 out of 1,320) involved arguments between the female victim and the male offender and 49 percent (425 out of 862) of those homicides involved guns." Read it any way you want, but she says "USUALLY with a firearm" but then goes on to say usually is 49% of the time. Sorry, but 49% of the time, does not constitute USUALLY to me. Unfortunately, she never states what the percentage is in the 14% of murders which were related to the commission of a felony, nor does she expound on what that constitutes. Was the female committing the felony when she was killed? That's a whole new ballgame Also, according to the FBI, firearms are used in about 66% of all homocides (2002). To me, that tells me that women who are killed 49% of the time with firearms, are actually 17% more likely to be killed by something other than a firearm than the overall average murder victim (considering there's no felony taking place). You were right when you said propaganda. But, you couldn't be more wrong when you said: Here's a list of press clippings from 2000-2002 of defensive uses of firearms and justifiable homocides. Figures by various sources, from law enforcement to extensive studies place self-defensive uses of firearms between 600,000 and 2.5 million each year. I am sorry you are so misinformed. Her study does a few things for me though: It reinforces my theory that many men are motherfuckers and cannot treat women with the respect they deserve as the mothers of our society. It tells me that restraining orders do not work. It tells me that women need to get the fuck away when they are threatened the first time in a relationship. It tells me that more women need to be educated all forms of self defense, including and most importantly, firearms training, and that all women should be armed in order to equalize the threat posed by these men and their propensity to violence against the fairer sex. mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills.
  18. By far, the most focused, self-disciplined, intelligent, courteous, respectful and promising group of kids I have ever had the good fortune of meeting are the ones I meet at competitive shooting events. These are not your future gang bangers or drug dealers. The are your future leaders and professionals. They have developed some of the most important traits of humanity at an age other kids are learning to beat video games. Kinda makes ya think, huh? mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills.
  19. I wasn't going to go there because I knew some joke would come up with some disjointed logic linking the BSA to the KKK. "Well, they're both a group of males!!! It was a bunch of white kids when it started!!! It must be the training ground for the KKK!!!" mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills.
  20. Eddie Eagle's message: "Stop. Don't touch. ((((Leave the area.)))) Tell an adult." Sorry, had to correct ya. It's funny, but I have an older Eddie Eagle tape with narration by none other than Jason Priestly of 90210 fame. More on Eddie Eagle: Guess that's one thing the NRA is doing to solve the problem of accidental firearm injury among children. Tell me, what's Handgun Control or the Million Mom March got going in the way of prevention or education? mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills.
  21. My pleasure! If you ever see Brian Germain's suit, take a look at it closely. It's an Ouragan. Nancy did the Big Air Sportz logo on one of the legs. It's not embroidery. It's individual pieces of fabric (I think she uses CoolMax, mostly) in the form of each element of the logo, machine-stitched to the suit. Freaking amazing work!! I feel much the same about Chris as I do Brian: As long as they keep sewing, I'll keep jumping... mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills.
  22. www.ouragansuits.com Edit: Opinions: Chris and Nancy are simply some the best people this sport hast to offer. Nancy worked for Jumpbubble before starting Ouragan. If you've ever seen a Jumpbubble, they are bombproof with double velcro closures. Nancy went lightyears further with her suits. Every issue I had with my Jumpbubble, she had already realized and corrected in her new suits. Her designs are fantastic and she can do anything on a suit you can think up. Prices are very reasonable for her custom work. mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills.
  23. or should it be "...which lost a loved one thanks to a murderer" Unfortunately, people prove every day you don't need a gun to kill if you have a strong enough desire to end a life. mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills.
  24. I dunno where you're from, but where I grew up in Pennsylvania, we had a high school rifle team and shooting was a popular school-sponsored elective. We used to shoot .22 LR on a "range" in the basement of the school. That was just 15 years ago. It was also totally common to see a rifle in a vehicle in the school parking lot during hunting season. The whole freakish phobia of kids and firearms is only a recent development. It is a stigmata which I believe is the direct responsibility of the mainstream media and its extreme sensationalism for cold cash. A child who has the discipline to excel in marksmanship can still get his tuition paid to several great colleges around the country. mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills.
