  1. Actually, to clarify, they did not have "the dreaded 'assault weapons'." They had illegal select-fire firearms, which in no way could be affected by the so-called assault weapons ban. Again, full-automatic firearms have been highly regulated by the federal government for the last 70 years. These were not registered class-III firearms, nor were they ever legal to own in this country. As automatic rifles, by the true definition as coined by the German leader of WWII, they would be classified as assault rifles, but semi-automatics which are referred to in the "assault weapons" ban would not. But, that's a whole other discussion. mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills.
  2. Whhooooooooaaa there. Please do not lump police and other law enforcement officers into this category. I think who you are talking about are sheriffs, who are elected public officials--rarely are they law enforcement officers by profession. I would say that 95% of the individual law enforcement types I know are staunchly pro-gun. Their department or their sheriff may be officially anti-gun or leaning that way, but that doesn't dictate they all march to that beat. I will say that publicly stating their pro-gun beliefs can get them transferred or fired. mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills.
  3. Damn, I am doing everything I can!!! I gutted my catylytic converter, I burn all my styrofoam cups when I am done with them (I use at least a dozen a day), I put cheap mexican R12 refrigerant in my rather leaky A/C systems. I buy hairspray just to make inexpensive flame throwers. Really, what more can I do??? It's been really freaking cold!!! Where is the global warming you promised me????? ya know this really has me wondering about the validity of any of these claims: So, like for the last thousand years, there have been scientists standing around with thermometers measuring and coming up with average temperatures? Wow! I had no idea! mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills.
  4. Yes and no. The M16 is a select-fire rifle, but depending upon the variant (and there have been several dozens), the rifle may have safe/full-auto, safe/semi/full, safe/semi/full/burst or safe/semi/burst. That just covers the trigger group, lots of other variations have been used with differences in sights/mounts, stocks, barrel lengths/contours, muzzle breaks, flash reducers and even calibers. mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills.
  5. Actually, why don't I? I am innocent until proven guilty. Prove to me why I don't need one. I already told you one reason, which you again gaffed off because it was too legitimate for you to handle rationally. Do me a big favor and try to explain to me what makes each of these prohibited characteristics on a firearm more dangerous than a firearm without. 6. In the Springfield, OR school shooting, two brothers stopped Kip Kinkl. CNN got close, at least on this one, but the Rykers continually credited the NRA and the training they recieved through the NRA as the singlemost factor in their being able to end Kinkel's rampage. Unfortunately, CNN's writers and editors didn't see fit to air those portions of the interview. (Yes, I know the Rykers personally, and yes, this is exactly what they told me after the interview) Anyway, here's part of what CNN reported: You may have noticed where CNN did actually mention the NRA. mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills.
  7. Wow, billions? The NRA? Wow! I had no idea! Where'd you find that out? BTW, the firearms industry (including related accessories manufacturers) a combined total yearly sales figure between $2 and $3 billion. That is far from profit and does not represent only the sale of firearms. mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills.
  8. CNN's version of how the Pearl Mississippi school shooting was ended: CNN blatantly misrepresented the facts to suit their anti-gun stance. 9. Sorry if I was abrasive. This thread is beginning to piss me off. Like talking to a wall sometimes... I probably would not have even mentioned TAP, other than for the fact that it's the best CQB ammo out there and what I have seen tested and talked about. TAP ammunition is simply a poly-tipped varmint load with a slightly heavier bullet weight than conventional varmint ammo. Nonetheless, full metal jacket and boat-tail hollow points will act similarly to the TAP ammunition and produce less or no overpenetration than handgun or shotgun ammunition. Now, you and several others have said something which illustrates exactly why so-called assault weapons are far less commonly used by criminals, no matter how light and concealable some folks would have you believe they are: Exactly. mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills.
  10. I really think you swallow every line the anti gunners feed you. Your logic is flawed tho. You say that people go down south to buy guns because there is little or no regulation. All firearm sales from a dealer must go through the federal government. There is no way around that--it's the law of the land. Waiting periods are the only things that really differ from state to state. If I was a "gun-runner," who spent a few days traveling to another state to buy guns because there was little or no regulation, would it matter if I spent a few more days there waiting to buy a gun because there was a mandated waiting period? Heck no. I'm gonna go make bank selling these guns! What's a few extra days???? The waiting periods are just another way to discourage people from actually buying a firearm. If you have to wait a week to get a gun you spent a week's salary on, why get it in the first place. Secondly, it prevents the people who need a gun most from acquiring the protection they need--and need NOW. Specifically, women who are being threatened by imminent violence don't have a week to sit around waiting for their gun to get through the "magic safety window." They need it NOW! In a week, they are seven days more likely to be dead. The fact is that they are not everywhere, as you state. Again, they are possessed and used in the smallest percentage of violent crime. Knives are used exponentially more frequently to kill. You're replaying a common myth among the anti-gunners. There was a study done by the New England Journal of Medicine in 1993 which stated that "The family gun is more likely to kill you or someone you know than to kill in self-defense." The study never actually inquired as to whose gun was used in the killing. It was all about numbers and facts manipulation to cause panic. If there was a gun in the household, and a person in that household--or someone the homeowner knew--was shot and killed in that home, the household gun was automatically blamed. The later discovered facts of the matter were that virtually all the killings the study was based on were committed with guns brought in by an intruder. Less than four percent of the gun deaths in the study could then or can be now attributed to the homeowner's gun. mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills.
  11. So because TAP ammunition has become harder to get for civilians, my statement is less true? TAP is not the only .223 ammunition out there, but it is what I have seen tested and used by the folks I am talking about. Here's a few links: FBI tests GunSite tests Olympic arms tests Benefits of the .223 Cartridge in Contemporary Police Work mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills.
  12. Huh? So reloading with a fresh 10-round magazine is gonna be impossible for "gangsters?" Besides, since when do "gangsters" follow laws? Did you know, I cannot shoot a 10-round magazine in the service rifle category of NRA High Power? I must use either a 20- or 30-round magazine. That's the way it's always been and I doubt they will change the rules any time soon just because someone made up a law so a few can feel some false sense of security. mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills.
  13. Sir, you could not be more wrong. An AR-15 with .223 Hornady TAP ammunition is the preferred combination by most military and law enforcement CQB instructors and ballisitians. The .223 TAP ammunition will not kill the baby/person/team member on the other side of the wall, where as a 9 mm (full metal jacket or hollow point) or a shotgun (slug or buckshot) will because of overpenetration. Extensive tests have been done on this stuff. Please stick to posting what ya actually know. mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills.
  14. You ever hear of a compound sentence? Ya ever think that the two independant parts of the sentence may only generally relate to one another, yet one may not be dependant upon the other? I suggest you read a little of the Federalist Papers so you can get a clearer view of what the people who actually wrote the bill of rights meant. mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills.
  15. Hey thanks for the doj statistics. Unfortunately, they don't illustrate your position on so-called assault weapons. In 1994, these firearms accounted for less than two percent of all crimes in which a firearm was present. That percentage is two percent today. Overall firearms use in the commission declined and the use of so-called assault weapons declined proportionaly. It's important that I point out the exact wording of something from the DOJ site: Notice that didn't say used. If you want to talk about dangerous firearms, you should be raving over polymer-framed handguns. Their use in crime has skyrocketed in the last 10 years. They are used way more often than so-called assault weapons. Oh, wait. They are just like their all-metal counterparts, except for increased popularity of using molded plastics in the last decade. hmmmmmmm. See the lack of logic? You advocate banning something which has nothing to do with it's propensity for use in crime. In fact, the assault weapons ban was simply made up as the perfect camel's head in the tent. So, you have issues with a firearm which happens to look like a military rifle, but you have no issues with a firearm which is functionally identical, yet looks like a hunting rifle? Can they not both be used for hunting? Can they not both be used for killing people? Can they not both be used for competitive shooting? Can they not both be misused in the wrong hands? Can a vehicle not be also misused in the wrong hands? You also seem eager to exclude the effects of tougher penalties for firearms crimes and a thriving economy (thanks mostly to reganomics and the .com boom) during the last decade, but I'll leave that one alone. Back to the doj statistics. Gunshows were a hot topic here a bit ago. I'd like to call your attention to this little tidbit: I guess it's really important to go after the most mundane and smallest portions of these issues huh? I am pretty sure we should ban black baseball hats, as I am sure they are used in the commission of a crime far more often than so-called assault weapons or firearms bought at gunshows... mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills.
  16. I enjoy the ability to own what some have termed "assault weapons."
  17. ya added this after i started to reply... I assume you skydive. I hate doing this, but I will answer a question with a question and you can come up with the logical answer: Why do you need a skydiving rig? I have a feeling our answers to both questions could be very, very similar. mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills.
  18. There REALLY isn't a gunshow loophole. Federally licensed firearms dealers are required, by federal law, to conduct background checks prior to selling a firearm to an individual. These FFL holders comprise 80-90% of all booth holders at gunshows. The rest are people who sell related accessories and some private individuals who are selling personal collections of firearms. The gunshow "loophole" targets these private individuals to create legislation so that all person-to-person firearms transactions are recorded and submitted to the federal government for approval. What these private individuals do at gunshows is no different than taking out an ad in the newspaper and having people over to the house to sell the guns. What this new legislation would do would be to say that this private individual needs to go through an FFL holder to get the background check done. Yes, this covers sales at gunshows, but it also expands the definition of a gunshow to cover the guy's house, if he has enough firearms in the house. So, if I have a dozen guns in my house and I want to sell one, when I invite someone to my house, I am having a "gunshow." Therefore, I need to record the transaction through the Federal Instant Check system. If my dad wants to give me my grandfather's rifle for christmas, his house becomes a "gunshow" and we must go through an FFL for the instant check. No matter what people tell you, gun shows are NOT the primary, secondary or even a substantial source of guns for criminals. Criminals will continue to get their guns by going through the system before they commit a crime, by having someone who is not a criminal buy a gun for them, by buying stolen firearms or by buying illegally imported firearms on the black market (a major issue in the UK as these imported guns are generally select-fire [fully-automatic]). As for "assault weapons," like 10 years ago, they continue to be used in 0.56% of violent crime. Automatic knives are used more frequently in the commission of these crimes than are these cosmeticly challenged, so-called "assault weapons." Its a non-issue that gets huge press coverage when events actually do happen. The anti-gun movement uses the confusion you and your fellow Americans have over the difference between so-called "assault weapons" and fully-automatic firearms (already completely controlled by the federal government for almost 70 years), in order to draw your contempt for these firearms and support for their cause. Their cause is to ban all firearms. I don't care how you sugar coat it, that's all this is about. Even the most "middle of the road" gun control sites have the trademark revolver with a slash over it. That is the end-game. mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills.

  20. Read this thread again. Understand what this bill was about. Understand what the "assault weapons" ban is. Understand what the "gunshow" loophole will really do. The facts have all been laid out fairly clearly for you to read. I am glad you no longer believe that an "assault weapon" as defined in the Clinton Gun Ban is a fully automatic firearm. That's a step in the right direction. Keep paying attention, we'll have ya up to speed in no time. mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills.
  21. Gaff it off if you want. Chalk it up to conspiracy theories. Whatever. I spent my time to answer your questions. Why do you think that this bill had 60 sponsors in the senate? You think the gun industry has that much clout? HA! Remember that little list of other manufacturers in my post above? A bunch of them were part of a huge push to get this legislation to pass. Look it up. Unfortunately, I won't be doing any more of your homework for you. 23. Do a little research on the subject, my friend. The industry has spent $40,000,000 on defending themselves against these bullshit lawsuits, which have all but a few been dismissed. What do you think is the net worth of Ruger firearms, the largest gun mfgr in the country? (hint: say less than what the industry has paid so far) Yes, these lawsuits bring in all the manufacturers to defend themselves. Most of the city lawsuits have a laundry list of defendants. They are suing Winchester AND the maker of the tec-9 (which operates exactly the same as a 1911 or a SIG, btw--one pull, one round, single action). These lawsuits set precedence so lawyers can go after other law-abiding manufacturers of legal products--many of which are used by law enforcement. After the gun manufacturers are shut down (defacto gun control) precedent will be established for lawsuits against Budweiser, Chevrolet, Harley Davidson, General Electric, Jack Daniels, Porter-Cable and the list goes on. Ya think Performance Designs and Relative Workshop will fit in there somewhere? Bet your ass when they want to shut down skydiving, that's how they do it. Make no mistake, if a company is found to be criminally liable or negligent, all lawsuit preemptions are off. Sue away, in those cases. Just don't go after people to close them down. Seriously, do a little research on the matter. NSSF is a great place to start. mike Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills--You know, like nunchuk skills, bow-hunting skills, computer-hacking skills.
