  1. Go for both! Double layres on the face are SO much better than just a buff. (yes it really is that cold now!)
  2. How about a separate section for threads like: “I passed lev 4 at the weekend” “lev 5 and 6 next” “really nervouse about my fist jump” etc They aren’t really general skydiving, more achievements and student experiences, and at the moment it seems like it is nearly the only thing going into general skydiving. um?

its totally out of order. What if your plan had been for the less experianced jumper to dump in place? The lurker didn't know what your plan was and should never have jumped out after you, esp since you declined to jump with him in the first place. kath x Leeds University Skydiving Club www.skydiveleeds.co.uk
  5. Quote Think I've pretty much decided on Aff. If I feel my canopy skills are lacking on completion, I can always invest in a few s/l jumps also. It's all good experience! reply] You won't need to do sl jumps to improve your canopy skills after qualification, you can just do hop and pops. sl is compleatly different, you wouldn't do sl after aff. 6. Ahh, i may have misunderstood you. do you mean ages to get off SL, or ages to fininsh SL priogression and get your A. if the former, then yeah, actuall SL jumps shouldn't take that long. 2 weekends for me, (but that was with a 6 week gap of non juperbal weather in the middle) Leeds University Skydiving Club www.skydiveleeds.co.uk
  7. I was a huge fan of apple...used the same apple computer for 12 years (uh hu!) since I was 6 (family compute) then got a brand new flat screan imac. After 3 years that totally died - CD drive AND hard drive. All it is now is a nice display with an external hard drive and external dvd drive doing the work. then a few weeks agio my ipod died and then i upgraded to itunes 7, it tiotally mucked everything up, went back to itunes 6 and lost all my playlists that took me so so so so long to make. damm stupid apple. i an never buying another piece of trheior overpriced white plastic again. (although i do love osx) next stop, a cheep windows laptop... Leeds University Skydiving Club www.skydiveleeds.co.uk
  8. Not totally fair or accurate. I started SL last october, spent nearly every weekend at the dz and finally got my A license atthe end of May after 28 jumps. If the weather was good I dropped everything and went to the dz, and jumped as much as I physically could (i.e. space on the plane). Don't forget we have a lot of bad weather here in the UK over winter, far more non jumperbal days than jumping ones, and how many of those occur at the weekend?!? And I progressed pretty fast, a lot of uni students take over a year to qualify. Leeds University Skydiving Club www.skydiveleeds.co.uk

  10. so, did you decide to try BASE because 'your parents cut off your skydiving money (and you were incollage with no money)' after some guy 'grabbed your vagina'? Sounds like your path to skydiving and BASE hasn't been easy, passing out on your first jump, innapropriatly touched on a coach jump, and now getting kicked out of BD... http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=2205984]? 11. Hi I learnt though SL and I started almost exactly this time last year. Positive points: - I started over winter so there was quite often cloud, we got to jump if the cloud was high enough, AFF students didn't. - Cost, SL tickets are subserdised though my uni club, but even so it is still easier to pay to do a few SL jumps every weekend than a few AFF levels every weekend. This means you have a better chance of staying current if money is an issue. - I spent a lot of time atthe DZ while a student waiting for the weather to clear etc, getting to know people and more about the sport. I felt that I knew a lot more about skydiving in general once I got my a license than others that got theirs after a 2 week holiday. - its no biggie to repeate a level, it is fairly cheep and most people do. Bad points - lack of in-air coaching, so your body position (although stable) may not be the best at the end of it. - lack of freefall atthe start. (although that 1st freefall is amazing, you feel that you have really 'earnt' it) - dummy pulls. I was lucky and didn't get stuck on them, but many people do due to the 24h for 1st freefall thing. hope this is some help. Leeds University Skydiving Club www.skydiveleeds.co.uk
  12. Nah, static line IS fun. Did one at the weekend (1 year later and 130 jumps after my 1st!) as the dz wanted to see what the uppers would be like for students. It was really fun, I loved the whole "in the door....GO" thing, and seeing someone smiling at you with their thumbs up as you exit is pretty cool! 13. A very good salery in the UK? £150, 000 + An adequate salery to still have fun, nice house, cars etc? ASssuming 2 partnes on equal wage. £40, 000 + Leeds University Skydiving Club www.skydiveleeds.co.uk
  14. I don't think it looks that bad really. Limo, champagne, flight, jump, landing in sydney and a party afterwards plus a second tandem atthe dz... If people want to spend their money, this looks a pretty coool way to do it. Leeds University Skydiving Club www.skydiveleeds.co.uk
  15. Glad to know I'm not the only one that does this. Though really it's my own fault some of my friends would introduce me like that. There really isn't anything else interesting going on my life and they're just trying to kickstart the conversation to whatever cute girl they're saying it to. But the sport has so much perceptual baggage... "Wow, it must be so exciting." "Not really, I find it pretty relaxing anymore. Sort of mellows me out." "Huh???" When I first started jumpng last year - I liked talking about skydiving to my uni friends, now it is so awkward when new people ask what I am dong at the weekend. me: "umm, well actually I have to drive some freshers down to the dropzone" new person: "Huh?" cue a friend diving in: "she skydives!" new person "oh wow, whats it like / why do you do that / i once did a tandem etc etc" Then I get stuck for ages talking about skydiving answering the same questions I have been asked by freshers about a milion times aklready this term. (i quite like talking about skydiving - but only with other skydivers) ARGH! A bit of non DZ life is nice, even nicer now I HAVE to take people to the dz EVERY weekend. Although on the dating side of things, it would make it hard going out with a non skydiver since I have to spend every weekend there with my uni club. Nice helmet. Good fit and is very well padded which is great as it really does deaden the noise of the plane. I feel like it offers much more protection that other open faces, although I have not had to test this out! Holds 2 audiables securly behind the padding with elastic, I have never felt like they could come out once the helmet is on. Only real bad point is that the edging around the back is coming off, happening on a few other peoples helmets too. Would be easily fixed by super glue, I just haven't got around to it yet.
  18. maybe try to build up some strength in those arms. do some pull ups or lift a bit or weight or something? x Leeds University Skydiving Club www.skydiveleeds.co.uk
  19. Hi Are you at uni? Because if so they may have a club that subs RAPS tickets. RAPS vs AFF is kind of a personal choice, everyone seems to favor the way they trained. I started RAPS last Oct, went to the DZ nearly every weekend and qualified in 28 jump in May, then over the summer I have seen AFF students turn up on 3 concecutive weekends and get qualified. If you can afford to start RAPS now, then you might as well. There should still be a few weekends of good weather yet
  20. Ask your instructor, you do have to be able to pack before you can get your A license in the UK No you don't. You need to learn to pack for B license, not A. Check the opps manual. Leeds University Skydiving Club www.skydiveleeds.co.uk
  21. Hi AFF in the Uk - £1250+ RAPS - £165 to £185 ish for a FJC then £36ish for each jump after that. Once qualified - around £20 a ticket. Need to buy - helmet - alti - jump suit - goggles - gloves New rig - £3000ish 2nd hand rig, varys a lot, £1800-£2300 for a decent one. The best way to see how much training is going to cost you is to look at the DZ websites and see their exact prices. The helmet etc costs can be quite cheep if you buy 2nd hand. Good luck. 22. Quote'MAY' means that is not mandatory for someone to not jump.reply] Think back to school... "Please CAN I go to the toilet?" "Yes, you CAN, but no, you MAY not untill the end of class." Leeds University Skydiving Club www.skydiveleeds.co.uk
  23. Those kitchen knives are still fairly sharp though... Then have sent me their 'address' and photos of the lables on the canopy and rig to assure me of their 'genuine' status. Leeds University Skydiving Club www.skydiveleeds.co.uk
  24. Yep, I just sent them yet another email saying that I really didn't want anything to do with Western Union, so they have suggested an escrow service, "I know an very good one, have recieved many high value goods with it in past" hmmm Getting board with them now, I keep saying I don't want to deal with them, they keep coming up with more and more complicated ways to "deal safe and easy" Leeds University Skydiving Club www.skydiveleeds.co.uk
  25. Well, I do Yeah, I offered to meet them at a dz about halfway ish, about 1 h for them and about 2 for me. Not intersted so not going to have anything more to do with them.
