KEWL! I so wanna build another Tesla coil. I built one in high school that kicked out an estimated 500K-700K volts and knocked out all the TVs and radios in the neighborhood when I fired it up. But it was far to fragile, no budget for good components, so lots of duct tape, cheap pipe, wood, etc and everything arced to everything else. But it sure made a light show.....

it is really difficult to do, not impossible, just difficult. i went to our local butcher years ago with the smae idea. He REFUSED to sell me a pig - as he put it "You will just fuck it up - half burned to a crisp and half still raw" Convinced me to buy whole loins. He got huge pork loins, cut them in half (3-5lbs pieces), tied them for me with twine and I smoked them They came out perfect, since you have consistent size pieces of meat you can use a thermometer, and marinate them in advance, smoke them in a smoker for 5 hours or so, Now it is a regular thing here at Skydive City - I would still love to try a pig sometime, ,but I would want to go watch someone else do it first and learn it from them

if you are a right handed shooter, then swinging right, especially wide, is far more difficult than swinging left. Rather than just pulling your gun to the left, you have to twist your whole upper body. Everything Winsor said as well. You might consider just seeing what your comfortable 'swing range is' standing with the gun in your normal form. Swing left and right and note on the ground how far you can move the barrel and maintain your shooting form throughout the shot. Then spilt the center and that should help you decide how you position your body relative to the trap house for each shot.

http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/birthcertificate.asp Snopes has enough info and enough references to further that info that I fail to understand why anyone is still pursuing this thread. The state of Hawaii verified his birth and his birth certificate. that is pretty much the end of it don't you think?

yay! we agree on something.... I always wondered why it is called "Greek Mythology" but so many call something else "Christian Science". sadly the Bible, new and old testaments are filled with massive contradictions and yes they apparently can have it both ways.....even if it makes no sense. Maybe that's why so many Christians are in government - with that kind of belief structure - they make GREAT politicians..... TK

US Soldiers punished for not Attending Christian Concert
tkhayes replied to jclalor's topic in Speakers Corner
your reply represents that level of archaic thinking that is so frustrating.... even suggesting that God selects government......oh never mind - I am arguing with fanatics. Can't change their mind and they won't change the subject -

so Obama is/was established by God? And then all the right wing christians that hate his guts and want him out are defying God's 'orders' I don't know about you, but that is what I am reading. I don't know about you, but that is about the most fucked up thing I have read in this thread - besides that part about you taking out your enemy with 'God's comfort' -

yes Ron, you just go ahead and continue believing that no US soldiers whisper 'praises to god' to themselves as they put the crosshairs on some poor fucker at the other end of that muzzle...... -

I seem to remember a 'good Christian soldier boy' named Timothy McVeigh..... touche -
probably one of the worst movies ever made - but seems to have some 'cult following' A bunch of us skydiver friends went to see it when it came out - we actually walked out about halfway - it was really that bad....

practice of Christianity in the military has been there for a very long time - very disturbing, but c'mon - is anyone surprised by this? I am disgusted by it, but it has been there for decades, if not centuries. The Christians are well-entrenched in the military - reason number 387 why I am an atheist and reason number 152 why I would support disbanding a LARGE part of the military 'standing army'. http://www.forceministries.com/whoweare.html http://scholarsandrogues.wordpress.com/2007/09/20/lawsuit-alleges-mandantory-christianity-in-us-military/ http://newhumanist.org.uk/1681/backward-christian-soldiers just a couple things I found in seconds on google.... -
the AFF jumps can be done in 3-4 days typically. You can finish a good chunk of your license in 10 days

Where's the USPA when you really need them?
tkhayes replied to steve1's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I too am tired of the all the USPA bashing. The airport in Montana has every right to ask for liability insurance. That is norm in the industry. What also norm in the industry is that the slip-and-fall insurance they want will probably not cover skydiving activities, but that 'skydiving' insurance comes in smaller form through a USPA memberships for the jumpers that jump there. I am pretty sure that USPA has probably 'helped' to their capacity, but they cannot make an airport do anything. If the airport receives federal money, then they have to allow skydiving, but that does not mean skydiving-with-no-insurance. The cheapest we (Skydive City) has ever obtained the required liability insurance is for about $2000 and the most expensive was $11,000. It does NOT cover skydiving activities, but the City also understands that such insurance is only available through USPA membership The liability insurance issue is a cost of doing business and NOT USPA's problem to solve. It would be great if we could get the same state laws that 'exclude' equestrian and similar activities from liability due to the 'high risks' involved and I am sure that USPA is working on that - but I am also not holding my breath. IF you do not think that USPA is doing a good job, then you are free to start your own organization and try to lobby the government yourself. You are also free to build your own private airport or buy land and do whatever the hell you want. Not all battles can be won and we are the bastard child of the aviation industry so we do not have much teeth. Montana or anywhere else. I think USPA does a bang-up job for what they have and what we have as an industry..... USPA stopped an action that would have added a huge federal tax on skydiving activities about 15 years ago. That move alone would have cost you $2+ per jump forever, so your membership is already worth the money they saved you by that single action. -
I had two cutaways years ago back-to-back on the same rig.... I was pissed off.

congrats for seeing 'the light' if you want to call it that. It all came to me as rubbish while sitting in church at 14 years old. Lots of atheists out there, we are just freer to speak up these days without being so persecuted like we used to be. http://www.ffrf.org you will do fine, even WITHOUT a god or other deity. life will be just like it was with those beliefs or without them...

MULTIPLE RANCHES IN LAREDO, TX TAKEN OVER BY LOS ZETAS
tkhayes replied to Gawain's topic in Speakers Corner
it sounds like a load of crap from a fringe 'news agency'. If someone called 911, laws are in place that make first responders 'respond' That means police and firefighters, and probably others would have been dispatched. And a situation of confronting armed 'persons' would have probably escalated from there into something much larger and it would have been picked up my MANY news agencies. Did something happen on ranches on the border? Probably. Is it what that rag describes? Probably a long stretch from the actual truth. Do we have border issues? Absolutely. -
I would not get ties up in the 7 vs 9 cell thing. It is more like ford vs GM Fly what feels good to you. What are you looking for in a canopy? Do you like the way it opens, turns, flies and in particular, lands? Can you fly it in all modes that you want, braked, front-riser, rear risers, etc? There are good 7 cells and good 9 cells out there, and there are crappy 7 and 9 cell canopies out there too. http://www.dropzone.com/content/Detailed/47.html This article is worth its weight in gold as far as the skills you should try to achieve for canopy flight. Can you do all these things under the parachute that you have chosen?

however a quick google search reveals that square trade has an A+ rating with the BBB, so that is worth something.

most consumer agencies and reporting organizations state the same thing over and over again. Extended or after-market warranties are not worth the money. Stores and companies sell these and make a killing from them. Many companies have funny rules about what is covered and the claim process is often so complex that claims get dropped for 'inconvenience' read the fine print and make sure you know what you are getting.

USPA BOD meeting in Nashua, NH
tkhayes replied to MikeTJumps's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
We know because we DID allow 16 year olds to jump for a year or two and it made not difference. I think we got 2.
