  1. the tax is not on 'religion'. Most of these 'religions' are corporations. they file tax returns and they make profits. They are also capable of paying taxes, but they receive a free ride from the government because of religion's influence, and for no other reason. so it actually have nothing to do with 'freedom of speech or expression' of whatever other crap you want to come up with. They are corporations. They generate revenues and tend to make a profit. tax them like everyone else. Oh yeah, and did I mention that the Roman Catholic Church is an organized crime syndicate perpetrating child molestation and to this day still supporting an ongoing criminal organization? Or do the RICO statues also not apply just because they are a 'religion'? Oh, but I digress - I really should try to control myself.
  2. 2 stages 1. Create level flight 2. hold level flight until the canopy can no longer hold you up over simplified, but that is what we teach a lot of. Most canopies, especially student canopies, even navigators do not start to see any flare until the toggles are past chest level. It is hard to do 3 stages - you go and try it. So I teach them to focus ont eh elevator effect in the stomach to determine level flight. Adjust the input to always get the same output. The rest is timing and finishing it.
  3. I could give a shit about the S&P and the downgrade - this is supposed to work just this way. bad credit, you get a bad score. The US has been riding a political score for some time now, and now it is time to face the music - I expect more bad news in 6-12 months in that dept. Maybe the govt will wake up, maybe not. Maybe the PEOPLE will wake up, maybe not. We choose 'capitalism' when it suits us, every man for himself, take responsibility, no social programs etc. Then the capitalists take socialism whenever it suits them, bailouts and such, which never should have happened either. Those fuckers should have been left to ruins when it all crashed - they would have been sold off along with GM for pennies on the dollar and we would have recovered faster than ever.
  4. OK, the Bush era tax cuts PLUS an unfunded war or two....
  5. $6.1T, that was the cost of the Bush era tax cuts. almost half of our deficit.
  6. why do people think that driving/flying a machine from the very first version is somehow 'safe'? It might be a dream or a goal, perhaps, but still foolish. Who would do a base jump off El Cap with a strato star? Who's still interested in skydiving out of a LodeStar? Flying a 100 year old design of an airplane and then you get killed...wow, that's a real brain-teaser. 100 year old airplanes should be in museums, not in the air. sorry, but no sympathy from me. Brave maybe, but expect the outcome if you are going to do stuff like that.
  7. hmm, I thought she was a Congresswoman, and therefor she is/was expected to vote.....? no? does congress operate in some new way now that we have not heard of?
  8. The old Sabre canopies had a tendency to open hard every once in a while. PD failed to really acknowledge the problem, but said they fixed it in the Sabre 2. Sabre 2 is a completely different parachute. I have 2000 jumps on a Sabre 1 in varying sizes. If you have a bad back - do not jump one. period. find something else. I jump a Spectre with dacron lines. It is dreamy.
  9. Hey, i did not know there was a rule about other posters....anyway, it was meant to be comic, and nothing more. now it already turned into a religious thread....
  10. learn to sit up before/when you hit the opening shock. Throw the pilot chute, watch it and the bag lift off over your shoulder, start bringing your knees down. When you hit line stretch and that first opening shock, you should be in a sitting position, like you would sitting in a chair. The spine then only takes vertical compression, which it is designed to do, instead of whiplash if you lay flat and take the opening that way. save your spine, it can't be replaced. Better yet, find the parachute with the slowest openings know to mankind and buy it.
  11. I am all about removing such subsidies. Let's see, take that away for 10 years and we save $200B over 10 years. We spent that in the last 2 MONTHS in Afghanistan. Now's let get back to the problem of where we are REALLY wasting money. $20B/year out of a $3.5T budget is less than 0.6% Military budget is $680M or 19.4%. In other words, if we cut the military budget by only 3%, we could afford the subsidies. I am not supporting them, just demonstrating where the real money is being spent.
  12. that works great as long as the CEO is honest and cares about the product they deliver Instead, he lobbies with his riches and has breakfast with the legislators and continuously pushes them to pass legislation that further makes them richer and richer, effectively cornering the markets. WHen was the last time you or I had breakfast with a Congressman? All the insurance companies do it, therefore the competition is non-existent. Monsanto, Health insurance, Title insurance, Oil, Coal, are all examples of rackets where the legislation gets passed that benefits ONLY the companies that lobbied for it. Who is arguing for all the anti-labor legislations around the country today.? Sure ain't Joe average American. Ask any CEO of a health insurance company what their primary objective is. I bet it is "Paying shareholders", definitely NOT "delivering health care".
  13. We can't pay for it *NOW* as you say, because there is not enough tax revenue coming in. We COULD pay for it easily. as far as covering the cost of the doctor's visit, -doesn't that doctors visit also include a bunch of overhead and staffing required to deal with the insurance companies? Sorry but I call bullshit. My doctor has no time nor respect for insurance companies. They promise him and fail to deliver. They promise me and fail to deliver. Sounds just like the govt that you continuously complain about. I would rather see my 'wasted money' going to pay for some poor fucker than has not health care than helping to pay the backyard zoo and private jet that some CEO owns.....
  14. I mistrust the govt too. No reason to scrap it entirely. that is why we have elections. I do not get to 'elect' my health insurance provider. you mean with slavery, starvation, low life expectancies, disease, TB, - that sort of way we were 'intended to be'? so who gets to choose....? you? me? so much for the 'right to life' buit in the Constitution - you know the way things were INTENDED to be.... I'm sorry too, but the solution ain't anarchy.
  15. certainly MY first concern when I am looking for health care is how quickly the insurer pays....sheesh! like I give a fuck. Medicare for all, better the system, remove those inhibitors, stop denying claims through legislation instead of privatization and then pay for it through the tax base. Just like we pay for the military. solution is easy solution is obvious no one gets 'denied'. access to all. It could even be done in steps over 5-10 years.
  16. bag lock on a tandem that cutaway only on one side, the reserve went into the main and they entangled some, then the reserve cleared. Then the main bag/lines stayed with us all wrapped in the risers and then it began to deploy out of all that.... I landed a reserve with a severe turn, and a trailing 400 sq ft of fabric on one side....
  17. you forgot: - The Holocaust - Burning witches in NE USA in the 1600's - The Spanish Inquisition - The Catholic church for centuries - Bosnia - Turkish Armenia - The Crusades I could go on, but if you missed all that, then you are, as you say "in denial"
  18. simplistic? Sometimes simplistic is what it is. I call it like I see it. Political? sure. Religion the driving force behind the political beliefs? You bet - not like we do not see politics being driven by religious agendas EVERY SINGLE DAY in this country. Call it like I see it.
  19. Islam, or Christianity, who gives a fuck. RELIGION caused this fucking mess. RELIGION.....it's evil, it always is, it always was. If there were no 'god' then there would be no evil.
  20. bullshit. the burden of proof is on the claimant. Always has been. just because you don't believe that does not make it false.
  21. the original argument was "Science and the Bible/Christianity do not conflict with each other" Bullshit. A discussion of whether the Bible is or is not a 'science textbook' is nothing more than a distraction from this argument. claims are made over and over that the Bible is the word of God, that 'He' exists, blah blah blah. bullshit.
  22. Isn't it? Is is after-all, the infallible word of God himself right? So is it literal or not? And who are you to decide if it is or not? Being the word of God himself, I kinda doubt that it is fiction - it is supposed to be FACT. And if it is fact, then it qualifies as a textbook. The book of Genesis contradicts science. Wholeheartedly and totally. And once again, if you disagree that the world is 6000 years old (or whatever close to that), then you are going against the staunch beliefs of many of your so-called 'Christian' allies, who believe in the literal belief of the Bible. So again, i state that you are misled by the very fact that you Christians cannot decide what version you want to follow and what version is correct. Which again, puts your belief structure up for objective criticism. and rightly so. Science is all about objective criticism. We modify and alter our theories (and facts) when the evidence contradicts the belief structure. The world was flat, it is no more. The world was made 6000 years ago - we now know that this is bullshit. All humans descended from a common ancestor somewhere in Africa, we do not know exactly when, but we're pretty fucking sure. And they were not white, nor were they in a garden of eden. Religion appears to allow you to choose bits and pieces that are convenient to believe and ignore the rest, despite OVERWHELMING evidence to the contrary. So stop making statements like the 'bible is not a textbook', because enough Christians believe that it is. Just because you don't, does not make a standard for the rest of the world. At least us 'non-believers' believe that we evolved from a common ancestor and that the world is some 5 billion years old. and rightly so. The evidence supports it. The Bible does not.
  23. George W bush would also lose the election today, and so would Adolf Hitler I expect. news flash - we aren't having an election today....
