Idiots and insane people can't vote in Kentucky
tkhayes replied to SpeedRacer's topic in Speakers Corner
what sort of 'problems and how would they be further 'enhanced' by allowing felons to vote? My advocacy would be for everyone to be allowed to vote - essentially alleviating all the problems we have today, i.e. voter lists, and all the rules that we are debating here varying county by county, which in itself is voter fraud IMO.etc. ID and and a blue thumbprint. I like that idea. KISS should be the motto. -

It may very well be, but if the people of Chicago wanted to change that - they easily could, just by turning up to vote. http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2011-02-22/news/ct-met-voting-0223-20110222_1_voter-turnout-high-turnout-polling Maybe knowing that felons and 'insane people' were able to vote would encourage more people to come out a vote to 'offset' the perception that is portrayed by felons voting. I am sure that the numbers of republicans, democrats, gays, christians, lesbians, clergymen, janitors, laborers, socialists and such is probably about the same demographic for felons as regular 'non-felon' citizens. -

there are plenty of places that have corrupt governments where felons cannot vote. I put it to you that there is little, if any statistical correlation or causation to suggest that felons voting would in ANY WAY change that. If you are American, you already earned the right to vote. The right to vote should be absolute. No one and no government should be able or allowed to take that away from you, period. This is my belief and it is the cornerstone of democracy. If you allow rules to come into play, then you also allow those 'rules' to be expanded and perhaps to no end - allowing the population that is able to vote to itself become a 'popular vote'. not my kind of democracy. and the number of felons, even if they all unionized for one candidate, would hardly make a difference, And the impossibility of ALL felons deciding to vote for one candidate (or even being able to due to geography) makes this pretty much a moot point. You are trying to fix a problem that does not exist, much like all the 'alleged voter fraud' reasons of late for tightening the rules. There is no evidence of widespread voter fraud yet we pass legislation to restrict it just in case there is. I think we have bigger fish to fry. And no, i would not be coming back crying about all the crooked politicians - as I am already doing that today - i.e. there would be no change likely in my stance, again reinforcing my point. -

I wasn't stating facts, I was stating "Some people think...." as an example just like you were not stating facts, you were stating a somewhat plausible scenario. -

Define "criminally organized street gang". Some people think the Occupy movement is about the criminally organized gang that is doing exactly what you seem to think is a bad idea. One man's street gang is another man's social club. Name a 'street gang' that is large enough to sway a vote larger than a local or county government seat. If the 'street gang' is comprised of citizens, then yes, they have the right to vote. period. -
This May be the Most Important Speech of this Election Cycle

I do not argue with much in the article but the title? Really? Obama is responsible for people being pissed off at the rich for getting stinking wealthy while the middle class gets squeezed? Really? Has it occurred to anyone on the right that the people might be pissed off at the rich walking away with everything while the middle class is getting squeezed BECAUSE the rich are walking away with everything while the middle class is getting squeezed? No I guess no one ever thought of that. The rich are richer than ever. The fact of the matter is these people that you worship SO MUCH, have lower taxes than ever yet are not creating any jobs. Yet the right-wing mantra is that if we make them richer and lower their taxes even more, they will create more jobs. The Republicans used to (try to) balance the budget. Even if it meant raising taxes to do so. Now it is lower taxes, even if it raises the deficit because the tax revenue we generate from the lower taxes will help to balance the budget. Duh..... it's a lie. Now, my mantra is not a free ride either. I understand that it costs money to run a country. I vote for raising the taxes to cover the deficit. period. With an itemized tax bill that shows where the money is going. And then people will actually begint to decide what programs (and wars) are important. -

the only 'restriction' that should allow you to vote is that you are an American citizen and perhaps age of majority or whatever 18 year old as it is today. period. that is it. It should be a federal law. The states should have NO SAY whatsoever in restricting their voting populations. felons, criminally insane, insane, mentally or physically handicapped, whatever. These should not be factors nor should they matter. Even a felon should have the right to choose the leaders that eventually effect the punishment they may or might receive. It is simply corrupt to restrict the voting population and voting is a basis for the democracy we live in. To restrict it in any way is a disgrace and a shame and a distortion of the free will of the people. -

and who would you put up there? - how exactly are they going to fix it? I remember having EXACTLY the same conversations with conservatives and liberals alike during GWB's second term and wondering if the damage that he was doing at the time could ever be undone. It seems after 3 years of Obama the answer is still no, few if anyone can undo the damage done by GWB and his cronies. "I earned some political capital and I am going to spend it" he said. And he did. And the damage is immense and the right is still touting his ways as the way to fix it. more tax cuts even though we have a deficit. Continuing the wars even though we have no way to pay for it. 'talking' about spending cuts yet never acting on them. for that matter all that rhetoric goes for both sides. And then we have candidates to choose from like Perry and Bachmann who commit political suicide freely on video. The other choices are the adulterers (don't like the black one but the white one might be OK). Instead we will pick a 'nice man' who is in the middle and is electable because we don't want to rock the boat too much and we need to get Obama out after-all, even if the guy we elect is a fucking patsy and will accomplish nothing. Just got another email from my republican congressman going on about the deficit now hitting $15T and what to do what to do - well fucking do something you fucking idiot - don't fucking send me emails about it. What an asshole - then he goes on about patting themselves on the back over some $1T of cuts they are 'proposing' - proposals??? DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. they're all fucking idiots. And no one has the BALLS to vote for Ron Paul. And no one on the left has the BALLS to vote for Ralph Nader. So the cycle will continue. The country will be $25T in the hole in another 4-8 years - we will still be fighting wars, the gap between rich and poor will be greater than ever and the dollar and the US economy will be worthless. And this will happen even if we have a Republican majority government, because NO ONE in Congress wants it to change and YOU (we) put them there. -
Was the Fort Hood massacre a terrorist act, or workplace violence?
tkhayes replied to JohnRich's topic in Speakers Corner
with all the legislation on the table about 'terrorism' and in particular, indefinite detention of terrorists, I expect many will choose their words more carefully. so yes, it is workplace violence, when it suits someone who needs that definition and it is terrorism when someone needs someone detained and that suits the moment. -
sounds like another viral post to me - do we have verified transcripts of every president's Thanksgiving addresses? and from Yahoo News: so he's not actually alone - and therefore the comment on whether he did or did not is pretty much not worthy of mentioning. But posting it as a fact, just by the act of doing so, is un-newsworthy as a statement and creates a sense that something therefore must be 'wrong'

I am all for cutting it all out. The Republican or the Democratic parties are private clubs. Membership is up to them, funding should also be up to them It is a sorry corruption of the political system from the get-go and needs to be abolished. right from the voter registration through to the primaries and all that crap. nothing but rubbish and serves absolutely no purpose except to continue the piss-poor political environment that we have today.

I bet Cain quits in 2 weeks. The republicans would rather not have someone who is unfaithful and suspicious......so they will toss out Cain and support someone who has been unfaithful and suspicious instead. Newt.

http://forbes.house.gov/news/email/show.aspx?ID=O6SOAA6B6NXRPHHMEAGXOZI4XE Randy Forbes' quote from the end of the article..... 'overwhelming job losses for the military'? Well join the club. The civilian population has had overwhelming job losses for years now. 'break promises to our veterans'? Politicians have been breaking promises to regular citizens for 30 years now, if not centuries.... 'dismantling the greatest military the world has ever known'? Well if it so great and so mighty, then it can afford to be trimmed a bit - suck it up cupcake. So we're not going to raise taxes.....but we should only cut spending. But then we cannot cut spending (in the military) just 'cause I said so! Anyone else find this amusing on all sides....?

Obama pushes for extension of payroll tax relief
tkhayes replied to Anvilbrother's topic in Speakers Corner
taxes need to be raised across the board as part of the overall solution. Got a letter from Biden asking for his support in keeping the payroll taxes reduced. If they are going to let other 'automatic' taxes and spending cuts go into effect, then the only reason for this is political - they are all assholes on both sides.
