He's plenty smart. He earned a doctorate. He's been around forever and has world experience and he has albeit simple, but CLEAR views of some of the things that need to be done. He gets my vote if he gets the nomination. read his website if you want to really see the policies and what he has planned. anyone can have a bad night on a speech platform - ask Rick Perry right?

Florida has far too many special interest license plates as well nothing but controversy. I am all for scrapping all of them. I cannot get a 'special interest' boat registration, or aircraft registration. fuck it. plain jane plates for everyone and stop the silliness. If you want to promote a cause, then bumper stickers are the way.

EPA Regulations are destroying the rain forrests
tkhayes replied to jgoose71's topic in Speakers Corner
this is the only thing that may be factually correct, however causation and correlation are not definable nor provable either way. I just took a stats course so I am familiar with it, not an expert. state the fact, yes, but the meaning of the fact is bunk. you cannot in any way say that EPA regs are the cause of it. The cost of subway rides and pizza has risen at exactly the same pace since the 1970's. So one can predict the other, but other than that, they have no relationship whatsoever. CO2 emissions have caused the decline of pirates in the Caribbean. If you look at the amount of CO2 in the world and the number of pirates in the Caribbean over the past couple centuries it is obvious that industry causes pirates to go away.....right? -
I'll accept homeless vets, even take care of them over spending the money to keep them at war. It is far cheaper to put them in school and feed/house them than it is to have them at forward operating bases around the world. I get that from Republican Congressmen when they talk about military budget cuts...."what about the jobs??" Everyone forgets that before they were soldiers, they were people. 'people' get an education, start businesses, get jobs, contribute in other ways. You'd think the only thing they are capable of doing in their lives is being a soldier - and that would be pretty sad commentary on the way our military prepares their (our) people for the world.

hmm, so Bush predicted the war would end in 2011 when he was still in power in 2008? Never heard THAT before....I thought it was 2003....?? Bush was so fucking wrong with all aspects of this war, I cannot believe he could take any credit except for taking the credit for starting it. And if he takes the credit for starting it then he should also be taking the blame for starting it. My point was that I think it would be a great opportunity politically for BHO to take the credit for righting a terrible wrong by the previous administration.

Did anyone notice today that the war in Iraq officially ended? Obama said he would do that, but even the left seems to be amazingly silent about it. Certainly I would think that this would be an election promise 'kept' and would be in the front lines of their campaigns, but no, they do not seem to get it as far as tooting their own horn. Not that I am overly pleased with BHO particularly or tooting his horn, just sayin'....

yes rapid refueling for HELICOPTERS which is legal by NFPA code. Maybe I am missing something but the point of this thread is only marginally, if at all, related to helicopters....
-
The FAA does not really give a shit about hot fueling. It is an NFPA issue. Despite the fact that the FAA would most definitely investigate a 'fire' or injury as a result of a fueling problem, I have been able to find NO documentation or obtain ANY information from the FAA one way or another regarding hot fueling. procedures, rules recommendations or otherwise. Yet if the FAA would take a stance on it and (help) develop procedures for it, that would effectively allow operators to tell the fire marshals to shove off. But since NO ONE but the NFPA seems to take ownership of the issue, then NFPA effectively owns it. Plus NFPA has 'Life Code' which is the catch-all for ANYTHING else that might cause injury or death to a human being, giving the NFPA and the Fire Depts universal all-encompassing power over the entire universe. A very dangerous thing of which I am more familiar than I care to talk about.
-
It's not up to the fire marshall. In Florida, all NFPA fire code has been adopted as state law, therefore hot fueling, except for helicopters is illegal, period. local and county govt's cannot override this. this changes from state to state. Most places, the fire marshall is not even aware of the rules, or they look they other way. I doubt very much that ANY fire marshall anywhere, anytime, is willing to go against NFPA rules, since they are all so tightly wound. So in other words, asking permission is probably not smart.

I am not generically lumping all groupon offer sinto one category. I am sure there are plenty of dropzones out there that are offering good service to groupon customers. our experience is otherwise here at Z-Hills. I get regular calls from customers who sat for hours at the groupon DZ and never got to go, only got lower altitude, could not jump as a group, whatever, and then hope I can take them up at the same 'groupon' price. My point is that if you pay half price for something, then you should set your expectations lower. If you get half the service, then do not come whining to anyone about it - you go ht you paid for.

Would you ever through a student out without a altimiter

On a 10 second or less freefall, sure, but then I would have to modify the canopy plan as well. -
people who get fucked by groupon get what they deserve - both the business and the clients. The business sells its products for half off and then wonders why they lose money when groupon makes bank. The customer gets shitty service after paying half price for a product and then wonders why it sucked so bad. I think it is more of a commentary on the public education system in this country.

the problem with these climate summits is the same problem the UN has with global policies. There are no 'binding' contracts. there are no 'rules' that can be enforced. It's a giant circle jerk for everyone involved. A bunch of countries get together and decide on stuff and then there is no 'god judge' or 'god court' to oversee it. So some countries block things that are detrimental to them, the other countries promise stuff and never deliver or come up with reasons to delay implementation, and now everyone is on Canada's shit because they have backed out of it. I'd be interested in seeing a list of promises made and broken within Kyoto for all the countries that signed onto it. I am disappointed yes, but when Kyoto was signed I was already thinking "what a fucking waste of money." Look at aid for Haiti.....dozens of countries promised billions of dollars - looks good for a news sound bite, but few have delivered squat.

NFPA rules ban fueling while the engines are running except for helicopters. that is what I was referring to.
-
I'm calling bullshit on that. I personally did the research on ALL hot-fueling accidents in the USA and between the NTSB and the FAA, they could only find 4 fueling related accidents in the history of recording accidents. All 4 were helicopters. one was gasoline and the guy fueling was smoking. Another was a guy fueling unattended in 30+MPH winds and the helicopter flipped over and burned. The other 2 were minor accidents related to spills and then a fire that started as a result. Rapid refueling has been done probably hundreds of thousands of times in the USA at operations all over the country without a single incident. It is however against NFPA fire code, but as for it being unsafe, it is ridiculous to even state that. There are far too many factors to make such a blanket statement. The type of plane, fueling and engine locations, fueling equipment available, personnel available etc all have an effect on the safety of it. It can and it is being done every day - safely.

who gives a shit abou a building in Korea....?

oh look another anonymous troller attempting to lure people into a discussion when they do not have the strength make their argument face-to-face. Or perhaps they live in fear knowing their views are incorrect and unacceptable.

My stab at it - you'd think I was a Republican....

Don't assume I hate the USA. I still live here. I have problems with the way some things are run and I advocate to change them - just as I expect you do. Again another example of the arrogance that I detest. If you live in Nigeria, I expect that they could give a flying fuck about how big your economy is nor do they give a fuck about how much you think you contribute to the world. We could learn a lot about the world by first taking care of ourselves. One might think from this comment that the USA is destined to fail should it get as big as the EU..... American's involvement in everybody else's business is one of the reasons we continue to have to fight wars all over the world. We make it our business, they get pissed off, then we feel the need to go in and kick their ass. I have an easy solution for all of that which would reduce the deficit by trillions and the size of government by tens of thousands. Geez - i sound like a Republican - but alas, I cannot run for President.....
-
I bet the rest of the world WOULD ignore the US if the US could stay the fuck out of their business as well.... but it would be typically American to think that you are the center of the universe and everyone else should mind their own business even though you blatantly stick your nose into theirs....

The good news is that an ad like that is most certainly political suicide. thank 'god' for that......

Idiots and insane people can't vote in Kentucky
tkhayes replied to SpeedRacer's topic in Speakers Corner
Actually people do that every day, whether or not it is 'right' or even related to this thread. gay rights, religion, terrorism, war on drugs. Fear is one of the largest motivating factors in the USA politically IMO, so extreme stances are a reality and yet people tend to defend the 'free country' but live far from it. Voting is a simple right. Again there is NO, NONE, ABSOLUTELY ZERO statistical or reality basis to say that a felon voting is going to inappropriately or negatively affect the outcome of any election. Or same for insane or idiots. Or for teenagers, or for any other demographic that you might propose. And therefore I am for voting for everyone of the age of majority or 18 or even 16; bar none, even running for office, even running for President. It is up to the people to decide who they want as their leaders, not up to the legislature to decide who can and cannot run or vote. This is a fundamental basis for true democracy. -

Idiots and insane people can't vote in Kentucky
tkhayes replied to SpeedRacer's topic in Speakers Corner
Well as far as elections go, YES that is exactly what it is about. We fight for the Palestinians running a democracy and then they DO run a democracy and then we criticize the government they elect. Same in Afghanistan and soon to be the same in Iraq. Can't have it both ways, you do not get to have democracy and then decide that you do not like the choice of the leader chosen through a fair and equal election. The route is to have another election to solve that problem. It sounds more and more to me like you do not actually want democracy - you just want the 'chosen' democracy that YOU believe in, regardless of what the actual Constitution might say. -
Idiots and insane people can't vote in Kentucky
tkhayes replied to SpeedRacer's topic in Speakers Corner
I did not say that specifically but thanks for putting words in my mouth. I simply supported the current age limit. I would have no problem with 15 years olds being able to vote except that they are still minors and under the 'parental control' of their parents, which in some ways could affect the outcome of their vote. They do not have the same legal rights as adults in some areas, and in some ways they have more legal rights. Assuming that teenagers would have the same legal protections for voting, I would have no problem with that. Even 14 year olds would be fine. Imagine the marketing on TV, McDonalds would have to tune their ads to not only mckids meals but also their favorite candidate..... But since the age limit is not or was not an issue in the thread, I see your attempt simply at a diversion from the actual thread intention which was idiots and insane people. My objection is to the subjective judgement of people by other people as to their ability to vote. period. If someone can make up a rule that says someone else cannot vote, then they can make up a rule that says I cannot vote - and I object to that.
