  1. it sucks, but you are not in it for the money. (sounds like instructing at a dropzone)
  2. Doug, Hopefully Wendy will be able to answer this since it was on her sight. Anyway, I only found the 2 to 1s useful when flying a wing slot. They weren't much help when you need to dive quickly. For that, a good set of dive blocks worked the best for me. Other than that, I believe your rigger can set up the dive assists on a standard set of risers. Mark CCS-1242
  3. BTW, did I mention I can barely land a Lightning? Only one stand up the whole weekend on the 143 a few weeks ago.
  4. point made, but they would kick you out first...

    AFF-1 Jump Pics

Nice pics and congratulatons! Not bad for a first timer. (I would have only given 2 signals also: arch and legs out.) Look great, though!
  6. he did say New Joysey, didn't he?
  7. Michele, I agree with Quade. Stay with the one who brought you to the party. And as far as Jessica's suggestion, keep in mind that it is more than just wing loading. Line length is also a key factor on a canopy, and is different even at similar wing loadings. ie. the smaller canopy will have much shorter lines. Get a few more jumps with the Spectre.
  8. Michele, Sebazz, TEB, Bill Von, et. al. have given great advice. Get somebody to video you and maybe have one of the dudes from the school put you back on radio. I remember attending a seminar given by John LeBlanc. The topic: Landing. You are landing your canopy very similar just as a pilot lands a plane. You keep the basically the same visuals of the runway and not touch your landing gear until your airspeed is slow enough to touch down. Check the PD website as they may have notes on the seminar. Elsinore Evolution has some great canopy pilots, and may be available sooner. Above all, practice and be safe.
  9. Only if you think it is. You're in college, right? Why not check out ROTC and get a scholarship. (don't laugh) I did. You still might find some "youngster" mentality in a college unit, but you just have to deal with it and stand out from the crowd and be a leader. It is very different when you get to the fleet or a squadron in my case. Ask the dudes at SDSD. There are a lot of SEALs there you can bounce some ideas off of. Utilize your swimming skills. Whatever you decide on, go for it! Just remember: Quitters never win, and Winners never quit.
  10. Andy is the dude on the left... jumps at 'Snore.
  11. Hence, your call sign: GrumpySmurf...
  12. check out Elsinore... even shows the grass landing area. perris' is pretty good as well.
  13. Did 5 bigways in which the base sucked and just about funnelled every exit. Then Sunday, did a Cat. G coach jump. (Went well, but student tried to kill himself downwind.) Concur with the sitfly. Did my last 200 jumps ago and attempted one the other day after I kicked a student out on a supervised hop-n-pop. Wearing my rw suit I went out at twelve-five and went into a lazy-boy and couldn't move. Fast arms and inside/outside leg grips inhibited me from doing anything more. Comical.
  14. too late. already on the web, if ya know what i mean...
  15. Here's what's on my current desktop, taken last Saturday at the Lake..
  16. Michele, Next time I'm out at Perris I will jump with you.... only if it is out of the van, though.
  17. I can't agree more with you, thats why I didn't mentioned about the jump #'s, the idea to look at the log book is to see the remarks and to know what they have done before and its a good way to say you are not allowed in the load. That's equally true about relatively low jump numbers. I know many sub-600 jump chicks and dudes that can really fly....
  18. Kelly, A little off topic, sort of, but would you change anything for CReW as oppossed to a freefall container? What model does Team Infinity use as their crew rigs?
  19. Did anyone read my post???! Anyway, one reason is that the experienced group doesn't want a "newbie" to fuck-up their skydive. At least that's the perception. By doing lots of small formations, ideally 2 or 3 ways, the newbie can improve their skills, then the LO can take notice and eventually invite them on an LO. Newbies always have somebody to jump with at 'Snore. Michele, you are always welcome at the Lake. Remember the Chick's Rock Boogie? We'll take care of ya!
