Zorbing - The Sport Where You Roll Down A Hill In An Inflatible Ball
MF42 replied to BounceEasy's topic in The Bonfire
It's just a natural next step.... Anybody else ever entertain yourselves as a child by hurling yourselves down a steep hill and trying for the most spectacular roll/crash? Or was that just me? Anybody? Matt -
Link no worky. Matt

Guys do you really give a shit about the size of a woman's nipples?
MF42 replied to McBeth's topic in The Bonfire
Never met a booby I didn't like, so that probably goes for nipples as well. Matt -

I gotta try it!!!! -
Why yes, just a few weeks ago I very literally busted my ass (and back) doing just what you described. Sorry, no helpful advice here, other than "Don't do that." Matt

Yes, androgynous voices were terrible. Felt like an old SNL skit with Pat. The system that did all the dialing for us ran a bit slowly, so I'd hear the beep, then "Hello?" "Hello, may I speak to _____" About the time I got to "speak" the system would finally flash a name up on my screen, so I had about 0.25 second to guess at a pronunciation. Kinda destroys your credibility when you obviously don't have any idea who the hell you're talking to. Matt

Seriously? Offensive? I guess I don't understand this one. I don't get offended if somebody calls me "guy." Matt

The parachute for the airplane isn't a cure-all, though. I know of at least one idiot pilot who lost all control, allowed the airspeed to get too high, and deployed the parachute, only to die when the high speed opening shock destroyed the airplane. And these canopies aren't steerable, either. It seems to me in most situations you'd be much better off landing a damaged but controllable airplane rather than pulling the panic handle and let the chips fall where they may. Matt

I spent a shamefaced few months calling random strangers while they're eating/sleeping/screwing etc. and convincing them to change their long distyance carrier. After a while you just get numb to all the anger. Then the numbness changes to humor, and you start looking for ways to egg the irate subject on further without actually breaking any rules. Never got anybody as pissed as that guy though.

All you people get out of bed freakishly early. That just can't be healthy. What's this work thing so often mentioned? Matt

Asimov is usually a good read. IMO his short fiction is usually much better than the novels, especially the whole robots series. One notable exception: The Gods Themselves. Excellent book. Gotta admit I don't think I've read any Burroughs. Two votes for Have Spacesuit Will Travel. I'll have to pick it up sometime soon. Matt

I read Niven's ringworld series. Some very creative ideas there. The most recent installment had the most frenetic pacing of any novel I've ever encountered. Kinda different. Matt

Way back in high school on my second ever date with a real live girl, we were going to play frisbee golf cuz it's incredibly cheap and I had no money. She showed up at the park with this rottweiler that must've weighed more than I did at the time. It was a fun time! The girl turned out to be not as cool as I thought she was, but that dog was cool. We had lots of fun, me throwing frisbees and him destroying them while I tried to wrestle the frisbee shards out of his mouth.

I started to panic, or have an anxiety attack, or something like that. Almost went outside for the first time in three days. Matt

clicky In the options, change "blues" to either "fiery" or "rainbow" and turn the sound on too.

How about Heinlein? I've only read Stranger in a Strange Land and Starship Troopers, both of which were very well written. What would be a good next book? Matt

No, no... His girlfriend right. Look at the picture again. Matt

Pattern Recognition was excellent. Slightly different direction from the more "hard" science fiction. Well worth the read. Matt

Slightly less well known Wells book: The Food of the Gods. Stumbled over that one when I was a kid and still love it today. Matt

Yes! Loved every page of it! Matt

Try "Antarctica", also by Kim Stanley Robinson. It covers much of the same ground as the Mars series, but with a much better pacing. It's a good read.
