Bill Dause is under the chopping block!!
topdocker replied to ts1962's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
when did it become his then? it would be interesting to know, who owned it before him? I just called Bill to get the word from someone who really knows: He started training students in '64, that becomes the start date, then moved to Alta as the Alta Parachute Center. After a few moves he stopped with the location on the moniker and just became the Parachute Center. He move to Pope Valley in '76 and then its current location in Lodi in '81. Bill said he didn't jump much at Perris, but a bit at Elsinore when he would pass through the area. Now back to our regularly scheduled thread... top Jump more, post less! -
You know you're hooked on skydiving when...
topdocker replied to emmiwy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
..... you give one of your three rings as an engagement ring. you're married to a skydiver. the only people you know have been jumping for years. your pets are named after gear parts (freebag, dytter, bellywart, etc). your kids are named for the boogie they were conceived at (Eloy, Richmond, Freeflywinterfest). your parents know not to call or come by on the weekend, any holiday, or when the sun is shining. your car is 15 years old, but you have two new rigs, and you're happy with that. you miss a weekend at the dz and people call the highway patrol to look for you. you look at cloud in the sky and wonder what it looks like from the top. beer is currency. top Jump more, post less! -
Knowing skydivers, but not having been down their in 20 years or who was there that day... did you check the freezer? Either that or someone is wondering how their head changed sizes so much that their helmet doesn't fit anymore. Hope your gear turns up! top Jump more, post less!

12 hours. Finally. But no badge...

It might be too close to this BOD meeting to get on the agenda for full action, but I'm sure this will get discussed. On the surface it does sound a little silly to me, but I would like to delve into this a bit and find the reasoning behind it. Thanks! top Jump more, post less! -
Nope, just want to drive all the staff in the nursing facility crazy when I'm old.... endlessly talking about all the skydiving, chasing the women, sneaking out to drink, dirt diving with my walker! top Jump more, post less!

Can't this also be applied to the skydiver leaving the a/c as well? He/she has a responsibility not to injure themselves or damage the aircraft, which can endanger those still on the plane. No citations were given out by the FAA in this case, therefore the authority in this case feels that a climbing pass is within normal operating parameters and it is up to the skydiver to exit accordingly or not exit at all. USPA, TomB, etc are not the authorities, the FAA is, and they feel it is ultimately the jumpers responsibility. I have over 5000 h/p exits in Lodi and all over the world, there is no guarantee of any aircraft being "properly configured for exit." All you can do is communicate with the pilot, monitor the conditions before you exit, and not be afraid to ask for a go around or ride the plane down. top Jump more, post less!

I totally get ya on this one! After 24 years of chasing that mistress, I still just flat out enjoy jumping. Getting in the plane, poking at each other, feeling the breeze in your face when the door is open, sun filling the cabin giving wild shadows to everyone, the smell of jet-a and nylon, knowing your in over your head on the dirt-dive and pulling it out of your ass, looking up into a blue sky knowing that is your place. Whuffos just don't see it- it's not the adrenalin, its just the inner joy that comes from finding what makes your life worthwhile. Being able to face anything at work on Monday because you dealt with a nasty spinning malfunction and walked away to say, "No shit, there I was...." Having those friends that you don't have to explain why. Hooked for life! top Jump more, post less!

Now, if I drop my cell phone from under canopy into the relative wind, do I need to create more drag or pull front risers??? Thread blend... top Jump more, post less!

I've taken mine on several hundred jumps. I keep it neatly stowed in the front pocket on the leg of my jumpsuit. Never had it freeze up or have any problems, so it may not be from jumping with it. I have had the phone come out on one jump, bad rotations dock! No, you just can't "call it" to find out where it is! It's very handy to have with you, if you land out you can call for a ride, if your buddy gets hurt you can call 911. After you get some pics, of course!! top Jump more, post less!

City of Nashville vs Skyride court date set
topdocker replied to BillyVance's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I pm'ed the individual and gave him/her time to retract this statement for themselves, but it hasn't happened. I see lots of "issues" here, but I have been waiting for a clarification on how/what I can discuss regarding the involved parties, before I say anything. As far as I know, alabamaskydiver has never asked my opinion, discussed this with me, or could even pick me out of a crowd in a dirt dive. Do not confuse my silence on this issue with a lack of concern, I just want to make sure I add to the slutions, not the problems. top Jump more, post less! -
Having had a number of cutaways over the years, the amount of time from "Peel" to "Pull" is very, very short. Most people would be so focused on their cutaway handle/locating their reserve handle/fighting pack the panic that they probably wouldn't notice the main behaving better. Besides, the reason you had such a crappy opening may have been masked by the line twist/lineover, you may still have some severe damage to the canopy that has not been noticed. Now you may have a floating reserve handle, wasted time and altitude, and still need to cutaway. I've seen a few wraps where right as they clear, one of the participants has cutaway! Once you are in that mode, it is very hard to shift out. I agree with the sentiment of once you have gone to Plan B, that is the plan. top Jump more, post less!

At the risk of merging threads and igniting the apocalypse: LODI!!!!! oh great! Jump more, post less! -
It's a lot more complicated than that! I've heard some great stories over the years of why there is no love lost between the two DZ's, but none have been confirmed and are way too involved for me to go into here. Suffice it to say, they are two different dropzones, both have positives and negatives, both appeal to a certain jumper, both are good places to make one skydive or a few thousand. top Jump more, post less!

I have several firelight reserve rides, along with the rest of my team. We all liked the canopy, no problems with openings, flying or flaring. Also, the rigger never complained about repacking it! top Jump more, post less!
