Difference between a good date and a great date.
topdocker replied to npgraphicdesign's topic in The Bonfire
Good date: started with dinner and a movie, ended at her place, with her and her girlfriend! Great date: you got the DVD and stills! top Jump more, post less! -
My dogs love the plain patties you can get! That way I can eat my double-double without a lot of sad eyes on me...or drool! top Jump more, post less!

Pull out for me for RW or CRW. Keeps me consistent. I started doing CRW in Anderson back in the late 80's. Hope it works as well for you as it did for me! top Jump more, post less!

Some advice: 1) Go to a pull out 2) Check to make sure your pilotchute is not worn, torn, or misrigged. 3) Do you really do crw at Franklin? 4) Check to make sure you aren't getting a lazy toss Unless you or your gear is really wide, you shouldn't need a bigger pilotchute. top Jump more, post less!

I think that the skydiving and altitude are the least deleterious things skydivers do to themselves on the weekend! top Jump more, post less!

I think it is this Saturday, March 13th, at most DZ's. If you missed it at your favorite DZ, call around and see who has one coming up. Don't die this year, you would miss a lot of good stuff in the future! (Self packing canopies!) top Jump more, post less!

I tried years ago for disability insurance. After getting the "batton pass" question, I asked to speak to the underwriter and have them explain the question to me on the phone. That poor guy had no clue what a "batton pass" was or "steerable reserve" or any other terms that were clearly from the "Gypsy Moths." They gave me a quote that was double the normal rate, and didn't include any skydiving related injuries, including driving to the airport, flying on a commercial aircraft to a skydiving event, etc. The underwriter pointed out that is was a matter of "risky behavior," not just the skydiving. He told me this after he bragged about his driving his motorcycle to work in the rain. I kept my money. I told them that their actuary was so dated that it was unreliable. It gave a very poor reflection of the company. top Jump more, post less!

Static line in Northern California?
topdocker replied to Bodhisattva420's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You should also check USPA.org and see who has classes availible! There are many options for the student today in Norcal: Skydance, Skydive Sac, Norcal Skydiving, Bay Area Skydiving, Monterrey, Hollister, Madera. I would suggest your friend call and talk to the dropzones himself and see which one feels right to him. Getting info from this forum is like getting phone numbers off the bathroom wall. All sorts of people have all sorts of axes to grind and you can't tell who is who. BTW, my wife did AFF at Lodi, and I had no problems with it. Neither did she. top Jump more, post less! -
Does AOPA get sued if a plane crashes? Does PADI or NAUI get sued when a diver drowns? How are "we" different? (Besides the obvious smart-ass comments!!!) top Jump more, post less!

If thats the case then why is there even a discussion. Why would any business owner subject themselves to that risk. Why should they expose themselves to any risk? Don't let anyone jump, or even get on your property? top Jump more, post less!

Why limit it to DZO's? How about gear manufacturers? Then Instructors? Anybody who has gotten paid to do a demo? How about sold a skydiving T-shirt or necklace? (BTW, just because someone is a DZO, they may not be making a whole lot of money in the sport!) Any and all the above people can impact your wallet with decisions if they were on the BOD. The key is to get dedicated individuals who care about the sport, the members, and USPA- not their personal gain. My thoughts anyway.... top Jump more, post less!

Happy Birthday Robby! (okay a little early, but it's your bday on the east coast already!) We'll have some ice cream, stories, and more tears. You showed us how someone could be a leader without being bossy, crazy smart without being intimidating, into it without being overzealous, honest without being brutal, and great at everything you did without taking any of the credit. I miss you every day, brother.... Craig Jump more, post less!

Taking Up Skydiving in Mid-life
topdocker replied to Fruitfly's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I started at 24, and still here 24 years later. I'm the one of the youngest on my team, we each did over 500 jumps last year! Two things: 1) Never act your age 2) Its not the age, its the mileage top Jump more, post less! -
May be a rocket launch from the West Coast, that would wxplain the launch in the "industrial haze" and the small rocket.... Lompoc? skydive Santa Barbara.? They do 18K for tandems as well. Although, if some tandem camera took the shot, he/she would have their name plastered all over it. top Jump more, post less!

My dad was a Marine DI. I grew up thinking getting tossed on the floor was how every child woke up at 5 AM, and that inspections of your area happened before your weekend could start. Funny, my dad talked me out of joining up two different times..... Maybe he knew I wasn't what they were looking for! top Jump more, post less!
