  1. Yeah, the weather wasn't that good for a flag jump, and I got a little busy working. I guess we have to make it happen for the flag. What kind of lense do you use if you are videoing a 10 way or larger? I have the basic equipment for video but next season will have more sophisticated equipment. I videoed a couple of big ways, including the Skydive Salt Lake Memorial Jump, which was awesome. If you're writing an article about the boogie, let me know and I can give you some pictures. I miss the warm weather and hanging out. Hope to see you guys again soon.
  2. Your picture in Parachutist was awesome. I'm bringing some large logos and flags. Maybe we can make some jumps together. I'll be there Thursday night, so give me a call if you guys are going to the casinos. There's a lot of us coming down.
  3. I'll never forget my first day at Mesquite when I won $400. On my last day, I thought I'd get lucky again. I lost my $400 plus a few hundred more on top of that. This time I'm gonna win it all back, baby! We'll be there Thursday night. Give me a call. 801 913 2874 if you guys wanna meet up.
  4. Hi JT, We'll be there late Thursday night. There'll be a bunch of us coming--some on Thursday; some on Friday. See you guys there!
  5. Thanks for sharing this. Since you like that, here is a video you might also like from Nissan Outdoor. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NjojJgErUsk
  6. Hi guys, These pictures are of a different angle of Tooele Valley. I took them around June. Nice pictures, Scott!
  7. I got something different for you guys--and fresh --I took it today. I just got my digital camera a few weeks ago. Check it out.
  8. I haven't seen a lot of discussions on demos. What kind of demos do people do? Does anybody do demos other than skydive demos? How big are the flags or logos that you've flown or towed behind you? How big was the landing area? Does anybody have any pro rating questions? What size of canopy did you jump with what size of flag? What problems have you had? What does the wing loading need to be? What's the best way to get more demos or advertise yourself? The reason I'm putting this thread here is so that we can share experience and knowledge with each other. It would be cool if you had some pictures or videos. If this thread is in the wrong place, please move it to the right place. Thanks, Faris
  9. Iraqis want the Americans out. Generally speaking, they don't mind other people there, such as the English or Japanese or Holland or Germans. But not the Americans, which all goes back to the war in Iran, the first Gulf War, and now this war. If you want to know what's going on there, I have lived there. I served in Saddam's Military, the Iraq military, and the US military. There's a lot of misperception out there about what's going on.
  10. Some skydivers, perhaps the more traditional skydivers, may not be that interested in BASE, but that doesn't mean they don't like BASE jumpers. If you're an unsafe person or someone who is full of himself you're probably not going to have that many friends. But most skydivers won't dismiss you just on the fact you want to BASE. I don't think it would hurt to tell your instructor, but you just wanna stay focused on getting through your AFF right now and just put BASE on the backburner for now. If you feel uncomfortable talking to your instructor, you may want to consider getting a new instructor. I'm certainly not advocating this, but there was one guy couldn't hear or talk, so he wasn't allowed to skydive everywhere he went. He went on a bunch of tandems, which probably taught him some canopy control, but they wouldn't let him do his AFF's. He bought a BASE rig anyway, started to groundlaunch, hung out with BASE jumpers, and now he has around 500 BASE jumps. So non-BASE skydivers may help you on some things, but there are other important things that non-BASE skydivers definitely can't help you with. Who the F told you it was a good idea to jump an old BASE canopy? I don't know if they told you to skydive with an old BASE canopy or basejump with it, but either way, it's a bad idea. If you BASE jump, your canopy is your main and your reserve, so you want to spend some money on a newer one. Your life is worth more than $1500.
  11. You posted it at 7 in morning. Or is the actual time 8 or 9 am? What time do you guys jump? Is that the correct time? Who is Ray Stone? I wonder if he's selling his rig, since he doesn't need it to land anymore.
  12. It cost me $300 for BMI and $225 for PFI. If you ask me if it was worth it, I would say yes. I can get discounts on suits. I never charge anyone to teach. Why doesn't USPA recognize it? USPA is changing their regulations this October, so maybe things will change. But if you get more ratings, you have to pay more money . . . I don't know if it would be a good or bad thing if USPA did recognize the wingsuit rating. I was paying $60/year for my instructor rating in the United States Hangglide and Paraglide club. Last August it went up to $280/year! So if we keep talking about adding more ratings to USPA, we're opening the door for these people to really rip us off! What is harder to get than a rating is to practice and get good and prove that you're good. People will see that.
