Very insightful : ) My dad called me "fattie" when I was a little girl. In retrospect, he should have been calling my older sister skinny Ethiopian girl. She was rail thin and I was probably just a little overweight at 5. It's stuck with me my whole life. I'm always going to have a negative body image. Intellectually, I can identify that it's something broken in my brain. However, when I look in the mirror, I still see myself as the fat girl : ( I know exactly what you mean... but from the other side of the fence... having grown up the scrawny little kid who always got his ass kicked it's difficult to see yourself as anything else.... It's amazing how things evolve over a period of time... Take the English language for instance... One generation used the word cripple to describe people who were deprived of the use of at least 1 limb, the next generation used the word handicapped, then came disabled, now we have physically challenged. In skydiving we have had the same evolution... first came solo jumps with a round... next we had small RW formations still with a round... then came style and accuracy as new gear is being developed... now we have birdmen, CReW, FF and swooping... Tandems are just another facet of what skydiving has evolved into over the last few decades... The English language isn't deteriorating and neither is skydiving, they're both evolving... changing with each new generation that comes into it... Is this good? Is this bad? I'm not one to make that choice for anyone else... The only naturals in this sport shit thru feathers...
