  3. You have somewhat of a point there, but once again, your lumping EVERYONE into ONE catagory which is irresponsible. I don't have that mindset and I doubt that most on this forum do either, despite their banter. In fact, I have yet to really meet someone who has that gunslinging machismo attitude that you refer to, although I agree, it does exist in this country. I miss Lee. And JP. And Chris. And...

  18. Me thinks you haven't had much range time, have you? There is scarcely an anti-gunner around who, after going to a shooting range and target shooting, has maintained his predjudicial leanings and vexacious delusions. Just to make the point clearer...... This opinion I have is derived from PROFESSIONAL range time. Now go and stand in the corner, silly boy Well, do a quick study for us "crazy US cowboys." Go to a range, and measure the penis size of every male shooter, if you dare. Compare to yours, report back. We'll be here, waiting. I miss Lee. And JP. And Chris. And...
  19. I don't think you read my post very well... there are threats NO MATTER where you live. We live in a safe area now (used to be in a big city) and so I no longer where the gun on my body, but it's always fairly close by. Here in the country, our threats are more likely from wild animals than humans, but we have an occasional meth lab out here, so who knows? We don't homeschool our kids b/c of violence in schools... that's actually just a secondary benefit. Homeschooling is very common in the US. My wife is/was a teacher, did it for many years, in both public and private schools, and saw how incredibly fucked up the students were and how poorly the system does. I'm not chomping at the bit to blow someone away, which is what you seem to imply. I hope the day never comes. But I'm certainly ready. Better a criminal than one of my innocent children. As for tazers, you have to get more "up close and personal" to the perp, something that makes YOU more likely to be injured. I miss Lee. And JP. And Chris. And...

    Sorry.

Nothin' wrong w/ sorry. And it's not a sign of weakness either. Of course, you can mix it up w/ "Pardon me" "I bed your pardon" "forgive me" or "my mistake." but I definitely agree w/ Jello J... "My bad" has got to go. I miss Lee. And JP. And Chris. And...
  23. Yes. But it's not a ghetto or even a high crime area. Crime happens everywhere. And as I said earlier, it is my responsibility as a husband and father to protect my family. It is a duty I take very seriously. Look at the abduction/rape/murder cases in the past few years... esp. involving children... some in cities, often though they took place in rural areas, such as where I live. The location of my residence is not the reason for my decision to own a gun. The fact that there are loonies out there who may do harm to me or my family is the reason. We homeschool our children, as do the families of our friends. We have no need to fear things like Columbine. I work from home. However, when I travel away from home for business, it's a huge hassle, so the guns stay home. (Don't worry, wifey knows how to use 'em) Again, you miss the point. Sure, places like Iraq and Chechnya demonstrate to someone reasonable like you the profound need for law abiding citizens to own -and safely use- firearms. But here in the safety of the US? I say yes... there are countless occurances of crimes that were thwarted b/c a would-be-victim produced a gun and the would-be-assailant fled. In fact, one such event happened to a poster here on dz.com not too long ago. Also, there are heinous crimes occuring in the US! Rapes, murders, abductions, child molestations, home invasions. It's not Chechnya, but try to tell someone who suffered such a fate to just relax and calm down, it's not like they were raped by Chechyn soldiers! It may be more infrequent in this country, but the crimes are no less violent to the victim and should be defended against no less vigorously. Court cases on the local, state and federal level in the US have stated time and again that the police do NOT have a responsibility to protect individual persons from crime. They simply cannot be in every place at every second of every hour. And by the time a crime is being committed and the victim or a witness can call the police, by the time they arrive, they are usually just taking an incident report or tagging a dead body. It takes minutes (or LONGER) for the police to respond to a violent crime. It only takes me seconds to produce my firearm and either disuade a criminal from further action or to neutralize any threat. What would you do? I miss Lee. And JP. And Chris. And...
  24. Well, don't feel sorry for me, I'm not paranoid at all. Rather, I have a healthy, realistic outlook about life in the US. I know what potential threats there are, and as the father of 4 and husband to a disabled wife, I know it's incumbant upon me to protect them from harm. I also know that it's far more effective to protect myself and my family with a firearm rather than a bow and arrow or an axe. All of your statements only imply a degree of paranoia when you look at the situation through the glass dimly. I find it interesting that you find the US paranoid but not the Swiss. I miss Lee.
