Why would you want to take part in something that could kill your friends and family? I understand skymama, I really do. I'm totaly against goverment regulation of a legal passtime. I shouldn't be threatend with fines or imprisonment for doing something the goverment gives me the right to do. Let's not get me wrong. I run into day cares puffing on 4 cigarettes all the time. Blowing smoke in childrens faces laughing and hacking up my lungs on the playground. I do my part for the cancer research industry. Seriously, I know where and when to lite up. I prefer the non-smoking sections when I go out to eat. These laws don't bother me really. The only one that would trully effect me is the one restricting my smoking in a bar. That's an adult establishment and the owners should make the desicion they don't want smoking in their place of business. Not the goverment telling them they can't have smokers in their business. I'm even arguing this fact, when I've set my day to quit smoking as April 4th. You would assume, I love this no-smoking regulation. Will make it easier for me to quit. Less temptation when I go out.. 16 years old it too young. I would say 18 or older. She's not mature enough to handle herself in the adult situations she's going to find herself in. Specially in Mexico where drinking laws are pretty lax. At 18 she's an "adult" in the eyes of the world. So hopefully she's matured enough to understand what's going on. I applaud those who are trying to help me. I'm just to stupid to know that smoking is killing me. I need to goverment to hold my hand an tell me I shouldn't lite up here because it might kill me. Ya ok.. You believe this too I bet? My dad is 74 this year he smoked for 50+ years. When he was in the military packs of smokes and lighters were given away by our goverment in rations. Orders were given, smoke them if you have them. Knowing everyone in the platoon had smokes, they were basically ordered to smoke. He's thought of sueing the military and the goverment for forcing him to smoke in Korea. Really it's just us talking after a few beers, but he's got a point. The man the goverment (DOD) instructed to give him direct orders. Ordered him to smoke, knowing he had them on his person. You're on a tangent.. That's litter not the regulation of smoking. There are laws in all the states against tossing litter out the window or throwing stuff butts the ground. Take it up with your local authorities. They'll jump through hoops to stop me from smoking in a restaurant, but look the other way when I toss my butt out the window of my truck. Tobaco has been around alot longer then any goverments we know. Tobaco is a money making comodity. It's easy to regulate and hence laws about it and to govern it. It's all about money. Oh I understand your points 100% and believe it or not I agree with some. My point is I don't think the goverment nor any agentcy should be able to control where I smoke. This things should be left up to the individuals and establishment owners. Hell they've banned smoking on the sidewalks outside here in Houston. If you're outside a public building (goverment owned or run) you have to stay 25 feet from the entrance. So tell me to go outside, but I have to walk a half block away to lite up. Again BULLSHIT.. If you were to sit in your hovel in the ground. Not doing anyting you would have free will. In todays world (2005) there is no such thing as free will anylonger. Everything you do or propose to do will have restrictions or some type of rule that applies to restrict certain actions. You may feel you have free will, as long as you follow certain guidelines and laws you may do as you wish. Tricky question, as I alway felt I was a rebel with a free will.. Found out fast at a young age. There is no such thing anymore. Everything is governed by something outside your control. Everything... Clean air is a trigger word. There is no such thing as clean air if you live in an urban area. You want clean air go move to Montana. Live in a city, you're going to be breathing worse shit being pumped out of trucks, cars and chemical processing plants in the area then smoking coming from my cigarette. Let's just ban all modes of transportation, refineries and chemical plants. Ok? Fine we'll all walk and ride bikes. Oh that means we can't fly because the exchaust from the turbine is causing CANCER! This is a hot topic at the moment in Houston. City council just voted and passed a new law. No smoking in restaurants. You can smoke in freestanding bars and restaurants with bars in them. They tried to get it like NYC where you wouldn't be able to even smoke in bars. That failed the vote. I'm a smoker. I've fought hard on this subject for along time. Non-smokers have bashed me, the goverment is getting rich off me. I'm sick of it. I'm tired of holier-then-thou assholes telling me I'm less then a person because I picked up a habit that can eventualy kill me. Get off your high horses and quit riding my ass. I'll quit smoking when I'm damn good and ready. If you don't like my smoking DONT FUCKING HANG AROUND ME! Just like homosexuals, they have their own bars and restaurants. THey can visit non-"gay bars" is they wish. Just don't complain if you get picked on or such. Go visit NON SMOKING establishments. LEAVE ME THE FUCK ALONE!
