How would you like it if your boss came over for dinner over the weekend and forced you to open the windows because he wanted to let the fresh air in. Would you just take it without an argument? Stros fans are mad because of a strange policy shift by MLB, wheras the Cubs and Sox fans spent decades crying over a "supernatural curse" when in reality they just plian sucked for 50 years. OMG!!! In fact I've never ever heard of MLB stepping in a forcing a team to do anything to change a "homefield advantage". Give me a break. IF you were a Houston fan and looked at the national media coverage from our point of view you would realise it's a pretty skewed view. Just listen to the Fox announcers tonight and how they praise the Sox for everything. .... When the Astros score it's replayed once.. the Sox score we have to relive the fucker 15 times and then 3 times before and after commercials for the next 2 innings. Houston like normal get's no respect. Take for instance 94 - 95 Rockets win the finals. SI only did a regional cover issue for the coverage. While San Antonio wins the finals and it's a national cover. It's pretty par for the course though. So you get used to it, and learn to fight and argue for respect because you're placed as the underdogs ALL THE TIME. Will give beating the White Sox much more meaning and satisfaction. I've called everyone I know that could possibly have access. MLB has overstepped it's borders of control when they're dictating to team owners how to operate their facility. Seeing as it wasn't even a discussion during the playoffs. Why is it now such a huge advantage? I've got to think it has to be the White Sox complaining to MLB about the supposed advantage. No other reason MLB would be stepping in except for Fox. So they can get awesome views of downtown Houston and the stadium from the blimp or whatever they're flying around. Do the Sox control the weather the way the Astros control the roof? Did the Sox change the configuration of their field to get an advantage? Is there ANY reason to close the roof in good weather, except to disadvantage your opponents? Lots of whining coming from Texas right now. How are they changing the configuration? The stadium has a retractable roof. They decide to leave it closed it's a dome. Not like they're adding landmines to center field. I'm not whining I'm ranting because MLB has decided to step in and make a desicion the team has made all year long. So having it closed for the playoff series with the Braves & Cardinals didn't figure into the homefield advantage equation. ONLY now that it's the World Series does it come into play. Home field advantage is something you deal with in sports. You don't complain to the comish that it's unfair. Playing in Yankee stadium is unfair because the fans are assholes. I equate this to my boss coming over to my house for a BBQ then forcing me to open my windows because he wasn't comfortable eating when they're closed. I'd have to tell him to go home. It's my house and if I feel like eating with my windows closed I will. IT IS MY HOUSE! They're not getting the national coverage they wanted. I'm sure they've got contracts with Fox if certain things aren't met they lose money. etc.. etc.. An extended series isn't good for them since no ones watching anyways. Wendy, Major League Baseball the corporation has stepped in and decided that the Astros must play tonights game and any consecutive game (weather permiting) with the roof open. Since it's to much of a home field advantange with it closed. It gets to loud for the other teams to play when the roof is closed. The argument the rain and cold wasn't an advantage to the Sox since it effected them also. How does the crowd noise not effect the Astros at the same time? Are the teams playing in different venues at the same time? I have a feeling this is just another way for MLB to force a quick series. Their losing money because of very poor TV ratings. Only people watching is Houston fans and ChiSox fans. So anything they can do to expidite this series would save them money in the long run. I seriously had to take 2 xanax lastnight just to mellow out. I was so f#$@^$% pissed off at Garner and Lidge for pitching to him. I too was shocked they didn't walk him... was it a pissing contest? like "i'm not going to puss out to this guy?" it was surprising to say the least. i thought for sure the astros were going to shut them down last night. Basically the way I saw it; Garner when to the plate to talk it over with Lidge. Probably asked him how he felt and if he had enough in him to strike Albert out. Lidge felt he had it in him to do it. So Garner gave him the green light to pitch to him. It was a tough spot to be in the next guy up only needed a single to score 2 RBIs with the bases loaded. Could go on an on about this or that.. it's over and we've got 2 games in hostile territory to win one. Remember this is the exact same place we were last year. Heading to St Louis with a 1 game lead only needing 1 win to end it. Cards beat us 2 games in a row.
