I will 2nd what Doc said. I transitioned from a Sabre 2 170 to a Sabre 2 150 and then to my current Sabre 2 135 loaded at 1.45. I found the 170 to 150 transition to be bigger than the 150 to 135, but not by much, and it may be due to the fact that I had more jumps on the 150 than the 170 when I downsized, so that affected things. I did find the 135 to be quite a bit twitchier than the larger canopies with the brakes stowed, if it opened off heading it tended to keep turning longer. dz use of Facebook and Twitter
SethInMI replied to IanHarrop's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
+1 The ONLY reason I am on Twitter is to get tweets from my single Cessna DZ that let me know if the plane is flying jumpers or not. IMHO twitter should be for passing word to experienced fun jumpers about DZ conditions and like Divalent said, occasional updates about upcoming events. I work in Holland, MI. Several co-workers went there and I am pretty familiar with it having attended its rival, Calvin, about 1/2 hr away. What do you want to know? Seth It's flare not flair, brakes not breaks, bridle not bridal, "could NOT care less" not "could care less".

How I read Quade's statement is that for him, even setting a personal 24hr jump record would not be worth the trouble, and I agree. My record is 17 self-packed jumps in one day (over about 16 hrs), and I was worn out by the end of it. Keeping jumping would have been a safely hazard, as my fingers were starting to cramp. I could easily see my tired-ass self falling asleep under canopy in the wee hours of the morning... Not having to pack I could jump a lot more, but I still would not want to try to go past 18 or so hours. Nice to see another cartoon! I am a little groggy and grumpy this morning after a long week of work too, 68 hours, so it is nice to get something to smile about. Two notes: 1. Yes, learn how to pack. I felt it took me forever to learn, and now the process feels so simple I can't imagine not knowing. In time, you will get there too. (I will say the packing process is a science, but getting the exact opening you want can feel like an art sometimes...). And think of the financial benefit, my 350 self packs have saved me like $2000. 2. AAD not ADD. (pet peeve). CYPRES 2 announces selectable activation altitude
SethInMI replied to FlyingRadio's topic in Gear and Rigging
In a way you answered one of my questions, "was this for new units only or a retrofitable firmware change?". Sounds like it is available for older units. I bought mine in 2005 so the 8 year is due next year, maybe it will be available then. Seth It's flare not flair, brakes not breaks, bridle not bridal, "could NOT care less" not "could care less". -
CYPRES 2 announces selectable activation altitude

I tried to find some info on cypres.cc about this, and I downloaded the latest manual which does not have anything on it. Anyone have a manual? I'm just curious. Seth It's flare not flair, brakes not breaks, bridle not bridal, "could NOT care less" not "could care less". -
from a quick search, looks like IMAX recommended FOVs range from 60 deg in the back of the theater to 120 deg if you are right in front of the screen. So 8K would be good. looks like digital IMAX now uses dual 2K projectors, so for most people, the picture is not quite as sharp as it could be. Not sure how that compares with 70mm film, I guess you would have to know grain size of the film? You probably know more about analog film resolution limits that I... The human eye can resolve 1/60 of a degree (20/20 vision). What this means is for any display resolution, once you stand far enough away, you can't make out individual pixels. For example, the standard suggested field of view for movie watching is 40 degrees (THX). 40/(1/60) = 2400 pixels max. Doesn't matter what the distance or screen size is, if you are watching a movie on a screen that has more than 2400 pixels across, you are either "wasting" resolution or having to look around the screen more than is likely comfortable. So for movies anyway, I don't see a lot of benefit displaying at higher resolution than we do now, but like DSE alluded to, 4k and 8k are great for video games or other interactive displays where you may not want or need to take in the whole display at once. 4k gives a usable FOV of 68 degrees, and 8k gives a massive 136 degrees. That looks like a winner to me, or as the other poster said it may be a Prince, as they are basically the same plane with the Pembroke having a longer wing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Percival_Pembroke It's flare not flair, brakes not breaks, bridle not bridal, "could NOT care less" not "could care less".

Without looking at this video, can you tell me what plane shows up at 1:33 mark? http://www.liveleak.com/ll_embed?f=aa98c131f749 Just curious. edit: (I mean, you have seen it already, because it is making the rounds, as it should because it is awesome). I know you are just joking, but I case I was not clear, I am saying it would be a good exercise to find out the brakes stowed descent rate on one of your next jumps, then go through the trouble of calculating and practicing PLFs trying to work up to a height that gave you an equivalent landing impact. Practicing flaring and flying with one hand would be excellent too, especially if your practice PLFs convinced you landing your canopy stowed was going to break parts of you. If you have a digital altimeter that can show descent rate, you can get an idea what you are up against by checking the rate under stowed brakes. This formula d = v^2 / (2a) would allow you to calculate the equivalent height to practice jumping off to hit the ground with the equivalent speed, where a is 32 fps^2 or 9.8m/s^2. That means landing under a 20fps descent rate is the same as jumping off something 6.25 ft high, and a 15fps descent rate is the same as jumping off something 3.5 ft high. The training itself is pretty simple, especially when it comes to exiting the aircraft. The problem as I and a lot of others see it is not training, it is execution. Like a swooper who has been instructed not to do a >90 deg rotation without seperation, but does it anyway because he believes that he is good enough to do it safely, wingsuiters who hit tails think they can exit safely by not executing a 2-3 sec wings closed delay. 99 times out of 100 they can. A program for tailstrike reduction I think follows a swoop regulation model. Lots of warning posters, stickers, etc, and vigilance by other wingsuiters. We can't have an S&TA busting people like a beer-line violation without a exit shot camera taking pics of people, but we need something to point out to people that are pushing it, and build a culture that does not tolerate getting open early. German DZ.commers: (or anyone else who knows) The wife and I are going to Europe in a few months. One option has us laying over in Frankfurt for like 8 hours from morning arrival until evening departure. Will anything be open on Christmas Eve? Shops, attractions, etc? No, MM is the same in the winter as yours. We garage our Mini in the winter for all the reasons people listed, salt corrosion, increase risk of damage from other drivers sliding around, etc. But with my STi, I made the decision to drive it year round. I have seen the rust damage it has done to the underbody, and that hurts, but I have had a lot of fun with it too, doing things you can't easily do in the summer, steering with the right foot, etc. The low traction conditions of winter allow for that. And like I said, the combo of winter tires and AWD makes for amazing traction when I need it, I have gone through some thick and deep snow where I think any 2WD car would have gotten stuck. Will I have some regret about driving it in the winter when I take a depreciation hit when I sell, probably, but I will try to remember the moments where I thought to myself "Now that is why I am driving my car year round!" I can understand for a Porche, esp a RWD model, but the EVO and the car I have, an STi, are AWD vehicles and just beg to be driven in the winter. I gave in to mine; with winter tires it is so much fun to drift and slide around in the snow, and with 3 limited slip diffs it is almost impossible to get stuck. don't believe America makes a car on this level... yes there are faster American cars, but they don't handle like a pure-bred rally car Or American car companies don't/didn't sell them in America. (Ford Focus RS, RS 500.) It sounds like Ford will finally agree to sell the RS in the USA in 2014. A typical length would be 1/2 bag width + 1 - 2", so 6-8" or so. Basically the distance from the side of the roll to the grommet. The length of a bridle extension also varies by rig type. IMHO Vectors don't need extensions, and the completely enclosed kill line makes it ideal for psycho packing. On the other hand, a container system that once cocked requires the attachment point to be within a few inches of the d-bag grommet would benefit from an extension. [Bill Von analogy mode] Comparing sport skydiving to a roller coaster ride is not good. On a roller coaster you are not in control, so it is like a tandem in that way. A passenger on a tandem is fun once or twice, but they get boring really fast. Skydiving might be more like driving a car on a race track. Sure you can only speed up/slow down and turn, but you are in control, and that makes a big difference! Driving around the track slowly by yourself would get boring real quick too, but add some friends and try to race each other around the track and now you have something you can spend hours and hours of enjoyment and learning. Ah this is awesome! I switched computers a few months ago, and I tried to get Paralog installed on it. 1. Download and install V7. Does not accept my registration key. 2. I Email Klaus on May 29,2012, "Can I get V5?" Klaus says "version 5 is no longer supported and/or available" So I would have to pay for V7. 3. I decide I don't care that much, start using Excel. Now I find V5 IS AVAILABLE. I install and it accepts my old key, so just need to import my old jump log and I should be back in business. Klaus, I hope you put that link out there AFTER you told me it was not available. [edit] From a closer reading of the thread, Klaus may have recently put the link out there. In that case, thank you OP and CH123 for bring that to my attention, and thank you Klaus for putting it out there [/edit] It's flare not flair, brakes not breaks, bridle not bridal, "could NOT care less" not "could care less".

Also funny if you have not seen it. http://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Skydiving "Skydiving involves jumping out of an airplane, parachuting to the ground, and not breaking your femur when you land. Participants include men with big penises, and women who enjoy being the center of attention, surrounded by men with big penises" It's flare not flair, brakes not breaks, bridle not bridal, "could NOT care less" not "could care less".

Not sure about the one in Marshall, I think it is still going, but I know some people who jump/jumped there so I can find out if no one else chimes in here. I jump at Skydive Allegan and have never heard of Parachutes LLC as a DZ, but looking at the address (the hanger next to Skydive Allegan) it is the sister plane from the defunct DZ in Gobles, MI. I have watched the plane's owners jump from it, but didn't know they had "opened it to the public".
