  1. This is the best explanation of the 2009 Nobel peace price I've seen so far: http://www.slowpokecomics.com/strips/terminatrix.gif
  2. Nice cage. Can you give the dimensions on that side plate so that it's possible to see how it would fit on a side mount? Height, width, and how far the hypeye D connector is from the back, front, top and bottom.. Thanks in advance. (:
  3. Here's a little youtube video Brian Germain made from his visit to our Easter Boogie at Skydive Oppdal. We skydive February to November and sometimes we arrange a new year boogie, with snow on the ground from October to April. The cold is not that bad if you approach it with the right attitude, dress appropriately and have a steaming hot sauna waiting for you at the end of the day. (=
  4. Transition to back during deployment. Backtrack a couple of seconds until the tandem is gone. Flip over, adjust heading to get perpendicular to jump run, track until pull altitude. How hard can it be? (= (*cough* and no, I won't show you the video of me summersaulting instead of transitioning to back. I blame the booties!)
  5. Right. And we get an immense imperial military that is adequate to invade and occupy nations all over the globe. Personally, I'd prefer not to foot the bill for that. Heheh. Personally I would cut down the military spending (a lot), but if most USians want a monster military, then most USians should pay for it as well.
  6. You can't really compare tax rates to those in Europe without factoring in what you get in return. For example a low-income household in the US will have to pay a substantial part of their income in health insurance, while that may not be a concern where I live. That said, I agree: More of you guys should be paying income tax. Everyone who can should contribute. (Those who can contribute more should also contribute more.) IMHO. (=
  7. Regarding your problems with AVCHD playback: The decoder probably is not up to the task - VLC and other free dshow decoders are not quite there yet. VLC frequently goes to something like .5 FPS when decoding my AVCHD files. To get the .MTSs to consistently play smoothly you'll have to buy CoreAVC or something. I've had some luck with using mplayer from svn trunk and ffmpeg from the multicore git tag, but I wouldn't really recommend it to non-geeks. (;
  8. Obvious survey is obvious. People who drink are more likely to get drunk. People who get drunk (i.e. socialize outside scout camp / church / world of warcraft) are more likely to know people who have tried drugs. Not exactly shocking. And even a socialist atheist fag like myself would argue that parents should avoid getting stoned or drunk in front of their kids. But OTOH, I think controlled drinking (a glass of wine or two at dinner) is not necessarily a bad thing. ("It's possible to drink alcohol without getting smashed.")
  9. Here you go: http://www.omniskore.com/comp/2005/nats/222_7.wmv
  10. Biggest blooper? I just posted it in the general skydiving board. Friggin lucky I am. (=
  11. We had a beautiful "innhopp" / "jump in" at Osa - between steep mountains and under a blue sky. I came in just a bit high on final.. Result is quite cool: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7wuQheTWCA. A bit of luck there.. (=
  12. Wait. What. These are the last days? And we're posting on a fucking forum instead of skydiving our asses off?! WTF has the world come to?!?! (Btw., LORD = Legend Of the Red Dragon. Kick-ass BBS doors game.)
  13. You know the suit is too big when one flight takes a whole weekend. ^^
  14. You mean one of these? http://randazza.files.wordpress.com/2008/08/penis-pump-german.jpg
  15. I had a similar problem when rendering some video with VMS9. It turned out to be one of the audio tracks (the one with only freefall noise..) that caused the crash. After muting that track it the worked like a charm. I guess no software is ever bug free. (=
  16. My 4th tandem video.. Jumping over Gossa, Norway.
  17. Excuse my while I play the devil's advocate for a second. There's tons of stories of people who break their L&B gear (or just lose it in freefall or whatever) and get a new one shipped to them. Could it possibly be because the materials are prone to break and manufacturing is really cheap? If I as a gadget vendor could choose between: 1) Use well-tested materials and sturdy construction which ensures high quality but gives me a smaller profit margin, and 2) Use inferior materials/production and mass-produce the gadgets so I have enough to send out to everyone who breaks/loses their product, AND gain a reputation for the best customer service in the industry by doing so .. then I guess I would pick 2. (: (I have nothing agsinst L&B and use several of their products each time I jump.)
  18. 1) The topic name is "Century .3x" and you're linking to an Opteka .3x lens. Confusing... 2) You should be aware that the baby death on cx100 is very wide. I find the 0.55x century lens to be wide enough for most uses. (With good quality and less than half the price of the century .3x.) 3) ... and maybe you should get a few more jumps before starting with video.. By the time you hit 200 there will be many more with experience on cx100 + various lenses. (=
  19. See http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=3478725;so=ASC;sb=post_latest_reply;#3478725 (:
  20. Infinity focus on my CX105 + Century Baby Death is very blurry. Just let the camera find the best setting in auto (while aiming at something sufficiently far away) and then switch to manual so it won't change in mid-air.
  21. There's a slight difference between households and people. I don't expect your babies to pay much income taxes, nor your gramps. (:
  22. Far from it. It is assumed that everyone who can will pay for the whole thing. That would be something like the "top" 90% of US households sorted by income. Contrast that to "the Rich", where people in the highest 5% have been claiming to not be "rich" on this very board.
  23. I'd recommend getting a suit first. Pants + baggy shirt has the possibility of covering your handles, which is not good. I doubt your progression will be better in the long run because of a baggy shirt in the start anyway.
  24. Regardless of the economic climate and how you define the word "rich", I'm sure that the 5% highest income households could pay more than 22.8% of their adjusted income in taxes. Of course, the wholes used by "super-rich" should be fixed, as well.
