Thanks for the reply and info. I will ask around this weekend. there is a pro shop (camper) at my new dz so they'll probably just point me there... "Remember the First Commandment: Don't Fuck Up!" -Crusty Old Pete

That's actually what i was kind of thinking... My other question is about pack volumes. will packing a canopy that has a pack volume near the max capacity of the container (but still listed as under that volume by PD) cause any issues with deployment? is the max container size something that should not even be approached too closely, etc? I'll be brief: Over the winter i purchased a 98 racer elite, with a pd 190 main, a pd143r reserve, and a cypres with 5 years left on it. My exit weight is about 185, closer to 190 the night after a steak dinner and beer. My questions: Is the reserve too small to allow me to use this rig when i'm off student status? The reserve container is 400cc which means i could go to a pd160 pretty easy or a 176r if microlines are used. Should i buy a bigger reserve? how close to the max pack volume can you reasonably go w/out packing/deployment issues? Any info would be greatly appreciated! Sorry to hear bout your ankle. Good to hear you're still chompin at the bit to get back up. Are you gonna continue AFF in the NY area? If you do, may i suggest The Ranch. Just did levels 4 and 5 there, very good instructors, facilities good, well run, great vibe, and oh yeah, it rocks! "Remember the First Commandment: Don't Fuck Up!" -Crusty Old Pete

I have very little, if any, good to say about the current administration. I dont consider myself a liberal. But if being a republican means i have to surrender a civil liberty or two to "be more secure" then I am the polar opposite. Ben Franklin would agree, for those who would give up liberty for security deserve neither. That bein said, I would want to hear more from McCain, Giulianni or other centrist type repubs. As for Dems, maybe Wes Clark or some other pissed off old general might be the way to go. I just dont see anybody on the horizon. "Remember the First Commandment: Don't Fuck Up!" -Crusty Old Pete

I'd like to see the next POTUS not be a Clinton, Bush, Kennedy, Cheney, etc. How about a new last name for a change? "Remember the First Commandment: Don't Fuck Up!" -Crusty Old Pete

Ok, ok, maybe ass was a bit too much... I realized i was gonna refer to Bush as an ass... That's just downright unfair to you. So blue skies always. Back to the Point: Notice how pissed a significant part of the US population is with Bush II? All Americans hate casualties, but, like collateral damage, right-wingers typically dont mind it as much. So if you want to bash the CURRENT US administration and its decisions, go ahead, I'm all for it. As far as the US constitution goes, this administration might be its 3rd greatest test; behind the civil rights movement and the US civil war. Right on. Anti gun laws impact law abiding people more than any other. The only exception is for mandatory minimum sentencing of crimes commited with a gun. However, if you're a thug and you want a weapon bad enough, you can find one. Maybe that's just the way things are in New Jersey, but I suspect it works the same all over the country. Just because a person has a liberal outlook does not mean they are antigun or even non violent. What liberals seem to mind are retards with guns, like Dick Cheney. This guy was a murderous retard with a gun. However, I doubt the codger would have killed the kid if he had to chase him down and stab him. I think a good old-fashioned public hanging for this bastardo is in order. "Remember the First Commandment: Don't Fuck Up!" -Crusty Old Pete

I stand by my ass comment, while I tend to be liberal, I've seen no evidence to the contrary. As for Hiroshima: The bombing of civilian targets (production centers) was a large part of the second world war. It began when GERMANS bombed London and the English retaliated in kind. It was later found (look up Nurmeburg) that strategic bombing of enemy production capacity (this includes the workers) does not constitute a war crime. Additionally, Tokyo was no longer a valid target as it had been mostly burned in a firestorm created by conventional munitions (similar to Dresden) that caused a greater number of civilian casualties. As for the necessity of the bombing: Japan had not capitulated and had rejected the terms of unconditional surrender which was the stated goal of the Allies (same terms for the Germans). Even after 2 nukes, the Japanese still insisted on certain provisions regarding their Emperor's roll in society. Truman agreed in order to stop further bloodshed, Japanese and American alike. The loss of under 200k Japanese (both bombings) civilians is a lot less than there would have been if an invasion of Japan had occurred. And finally, who was gonna invade Japan? Belgium, France, England? No it would have been the US, with Russian backing on the mainland of Asia. How many Russians died crushing the Third Reich? Millions. Unlike Russians, we Americans don't tolerate millions of our own dying. PS The Japanese started the war and commited many warcrimes along the way. Had they not, I certainly think you would have been spared this history lesson. PPS Fox News is the Devil "Remember the First Commandment: Don't Fuck Up!" -Crusty Old Pete

Tenshi, your repeated posts are hard to tolerate. Go read some history books and come back after you have! From your comments regarding Hiroshima to your post mentioning the Koreas you have managed to convince me that you are an opionated ass, picking bits of "history" to reinforce your specious reasoning. Much like a Bushite would. Also look up sophistry, terrorism and war while you're at it. "Remember the First Commandment: Don't Fuck Up!" -Crusty Old Pete

Bush Administration: Evil, Stupid, or Misguided?

I should have added an all of the above option. Next dumbass poll... Oh yeah, very biased-I'm an environmental consultant, something the administration should check with b4 making EPA policy. I think there are a few Generals (now retired) that would echo my sentiment regarding invasions and their likely repercussions. Not to mention meteorologists and engineers in the gulf area... Orange is 100% right. The longer between jumps (say like winter) the more time fear has to gnaw at you. I wish I would have known how much I was going to love this sport, cause I would have done it all at one shot-probably will finish that way. This will be the best damn thing you've ever done! Hi all, Was wondering what DZ's people think are the best for newbs/aff training around the north jersey area. Seems to me the nearest places are Xkeys, skydive sussex (Xkeys sister DZ), Skydive Jersey shore, Above the poconos in PA, and skydive the ranch in NY. Are any of these places that much "better" for learining than any other (intensity of training, propensity for low turbulence, general atmosphere, etc)? Any and all opinions are welcome, except those of my xgirlfriend. "Remember the First Commandment: Don't Fuck Up!" -Crusty Old Pete

best DZ from north/central jersey

Thanks guys. I've been learning at their sister DZ, Skydive Sussex up in north jersey. I was thinking about continuing aff at crosskeys because i don't want to wait for sussex to open and they share some instructors (like Jacko). Now I have another reason to go to crosskeys. Every time i see a sunny, low wind day, I get the itch... So if u see a gaggle of newbs there, be gentle! thanks again "Remember the First Commandment: Don't Fuck Up!" -Crusty Old Pete
