I have jumped at both Coastal Carolinas (bout once a month) and Raeford (a couple of times)... Coastal Carolinas is ussually only open on the weekends but is worth calling. Great view and people... Maybe out of the way unless you want a scenice drive along the coast. Raeford has great people with little to no view. I had a lot of fun there with the restaurant (I eat alot) and the vibe. Haven't been to CSS, but looking forward to getting there. Best, Dru - - "Baseball is 90% mental. The other half is physical."

While visiting a new DZ I questioned why FreeFlyers were put out first. (Assuming jump run into the wind). The answer, reflects someone else's thoughts posted above... Most freeflyers fly HP wings and swoop so if they get out first they will have the pattern to themselves to swoop. The argument continued that most belly flyers are jumpers with lower numbers and aren't swooping. The logic is clear isn't it??? Pleaes note that I don't agree with this at all... airport security opens reserve
druvaughn replied to browncow's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I travel at least once a month with my rig(s)... I ussually fly from SWF or LGA to ILM or MYR, and once to Orlando... I always carry on with the rig in a travel case of some sort (hard shell or duffle bag -- both fit in over head). I agree with Cliff carrying over the shoulder just attracts attention and you have nothing to put the whole package in should you have to open the reserve and can't close it. I tell the screener there is a parachute before it goes through the machine. Ussually they ask me to remove the rig from the travel bag and then run the swab across everything. Being polite with the TSA I have found goes miles!!! Once, at Myrtle Beach, they closed security and called the bomb squad but didn't open the reserve or main; go figure. Security was closed for 10-15 minutes while they did a background check and waiting for an x-ray tech from the bomb squad to look at it. Sometimes, they don't do anything past the x-ray. You should be fine carrying on. I wouldn't check it, but thats cause I've had a laptop stolen from checked bags before. Best, Dru - - "Baseball is 90% mental. The other half is physical." -

QuoteIt will not 'fix' the problem. You cannot mandate bad decision making.Quote I think that says it all and bears repeating... I did vote for yes. Someone higher up the totem pole than I has to take responsibility and make some hard decisions around the DZ or bad decision makers will be allowed to continue jumping. I wish it weren't so, but if my 300 jumps tells (discusses) a poor choice with someone who has 3000 jumps, I'm not going to be heard, and might even get a good look at them as they walk away wondering how I have the nerve. I'd open my mouth, but have found people don't listen, my girlfriend would be the first on that list. Best, Dru - - "Baseball is 90% mental. The other half is physical."

I haven't gotten tagged in NYC... I did get tagged in Wilmington, NC. They sent a ticket out, which I didn't pay, and then some person fought it in court and won under the grounds that only a police officer can write a ticket and give it too you. Good Luck. I might try to fight it on the grounds that I wasn't driving... You said your mom is in the picture but not you... You don't even have to say she was driving if it clearly shows she is right seat. - - "Baseball is 90% mental. The other half is physical."

I spend a lot of nights in hotels... Best trick I have learned... Make sure the fan in the room is on (AC or heat or just air), get a towel wet and put it over the vent... If the vent is up on the wall, I usually just thread it through the bars of the vent. If its an HVAC unit undre the window, I use the iron to hold it down. This has always worked for me, and it will surprise you how fast the towel dries out. Good Luck, Dru - - "Baseball is 90% mental. The other half is physical."

There are a number of decent hotels within 10 minutes of the DZ as well as a couple of notel motels on oak island that are dirt cheap off season... I think that the DZ's website has a link to a few, but Google can give you a hand... Oak Island, NC 28465 Best, Dru - - "Baseball is 90% mental. The other half is physical." -
QuoteI had some Keystone here in FAY that cost me my license for a year, $2500 in lawyer bills, a marriage, and almost my military career. I'm sorry to laugh, but seeing as we share a very similar story, I did... I would say that $2,500 was cheap, my lawyer was a bit more, but I didn't lose the marriage, just a nagging girlfriend... Babich Sauvignon Blanc wasn't so cheap that day... Best, Dru - - "Baseball is 90% mental. The other half is physical."

I'm with you, I have only recently started reading... Not that I always couldn't, I just didn't like to practice it... "I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell" by Tucker Max is awesome "Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs" by Chuck Klosterman is also a GREAT read... Best, Dru - - "Baseball is 90% mental. The other half is physical."

Don't think its his best work... Of late, I've been a big fan of Dogzilla, whom you can find on myspace as well...I'm no good at clickies or I would help... "Without You" is great... Robbie Rivera's "Escape" also a regular on Ipod... My $.02, or prolly less... - - "Baseball is 90% mental. The other half is physical."

"Birthplace of the American Circus"... Somers, NY Our townhall is in the "Elephant Hotel", which is just down the road from Bailey Court. The Bailey of Barnum and Bailey lived in my town with his elephant, a small commemorative statue of which stands in front of the aptly named hotel turned town hall. - - "Baseball is 90% mental. Not sure if this is true with all digitals...but... My neptune was checked luggage and still had the log feature engage. It logged the airline flight as a jump. Just in case anyone didn't know this was gonna happen (which might have just been me)... Best, Dru - - "Baseball is 90% mental. The other half is physical."

I had to start drinking skim milk to deal with overly high cholesterol back in the 6th or 7th grade... Love those genetics, and the donuts didn't help. The only time I can stomach anything other than skim is Chocolate milk, mmmmm MilkChug. Whole milk is like molasses (sp?), can't handle it. - - "Baseball is 90% mental. The other half is physical."

I saw this on a National Geogrpahic show, Man Vs. I think its called. NG said that neither of the people on the video were hurt. That is all I know, prolly not what you were looking for, but its a start... - - "Baseball is 90% mental. The other half is physical."

I have put 250 jumps on a Spectre 230 loaded 1.3/1. I have had a couple hard openings, but nothing that broke bones or lines. I have had some lines twists, never more than 900 degrees. Each time the canopy flew straight and level and I was able to kick out. I would slowly turn if I loaded one side of the harness, so I didn't make a habit of that in twists. Hope it helps. Happy New Year!!! Dru - - "Baseball is 90% mental. The other half is physical."

I get at least one of these a week though not from this group. Its a loan with, as far as I've seen, ridiculous rates and by cashing the check you are accepting the contract as they have written it. Someone asked the size of the check. A small FYI that I learned years ago... Anything can be passed as a check as long as it has all of the pertinent info that your official check has. You could, in theory, put this all on bar napkin (I suggest just giving her the phone number for now, check later in life) and give to the bartender as a check. They prolly won't accept it and the bank is gonna get a little fidgety but it works... Best, Dru - - "Baseball is 90% mental. The other half is physical."
