With a private pilot's license, you can land and park at Raeford. Family and I have done it a couple times to jump down there and where the only non-DZ airplane. Pretty nice alternative to the regular 182. Best, Dru - - "Baseball is 90% mental. The other half is physical."

Hello, I hope this isn't a repost, but even if it is, it got me laughing... http://vili.us/hypno.html (sorry, I can't make the clicky) Wishing you all the best, Dru - - "Baseball is 90% mental. The other half is physical."

She is right... The Ranch in Gardner NY or CPI in Ellington are your 2 best options. 95, 287, 87 for Gardner or 95, 91 for Ellington. Both are probably the same amount of time in the car. Yes, you are definitely not that close to Mass. Traffic depends on the day and both are open on the weekends over the winter. Wish you the best. Best, Dru - - "Baseball is 90% mental. I have 2 active rigs, one with a Spectre 230 and the other with a Safire2 209. Both are great canopies and fly awesome. Both have a real good flare. The 209 is more responsive to harness movements and the turns are a little quicker. The 230 does a little better with braked flight and I can put it into tight areas more consistently. The openings on both are great, the packers tell me they like the 209 a little better. I also had the chance to demo the Pilot 210 and the Sabre2 210. Thought the Sabre2 flew exactly like the Safire, I just couldn't get consistent openings. I liked the flare the Pilot had (best on any canopy I've used), but thought the handling was sluggish. Best of luck. Sincerely, Dru - - "Baseball is 90% mental. The other half is physical."

I'm a bigger jumper... I would say the Pac is a good ride, but I am more comfortable in the Otter, speaking of size. Raeford has a Pac, not sure if they lease or you are willing to pay the ferry costs. I wish you the best. Sincerely, Dru - - "Baseball is 90% mental. The other half is physical."

Rent a bigger plane for the weekend?
druvaughn replied to jcbfly's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I will say in advance, I have never done this before... I would call the DZs that have the larger planes to see if they are rentable for a weekend boogie. The bigger DZs with multiple turbo-props are your best bet as they would be more likely to let one go. Happy hunting. Best, Dru - - "Baseball is 90% mental. The other half is physical." -
Congrats and Best of Luck!!! Keeping the goal in sight will help prevent that "just one". Good Luck!!! - - "Baseball is 90% mental. The other half is physical."

Tandems start as early as 8, but I haven't made it out that early, well, ever. Call on Sat to see what time they start. Probably gonna be a bunch of hangovers going around. Best, Dru - - "Baseball is 90% mental. The other half is physical."

Coastal Carolinas, while ussually pretty slow, is not closed, as in "Closed Forever". They were actually flying tandems and a couple up jumpers Tuesday, or Monday I think. I will be there next weekend jumping. Don't think that helps the original poster though. Coastal has great beach jumps!!! Best, Dru - - "Baseball is 90% mental. The other half is physical."

Probably not much help if you can't go Saturday, but there is the mystery boogie (don't ask, I don't know) and then the halloween party. I would have to guess people will misbehave... Great group of people. Show up at manifest and ask for a local briefing. Chances are that who ever helps with that will point you in the right direction if not go up with you right away. PM me if no one else gets in touch, and I'll make sure to get together with you at some point soon. Best of Luck, Dru - - "Baseball is 90% mental. The other half is physical."

Skydive Coastal Carolinas has a rigger on staff with a full service rigging loft above manifest. He does offer expedited pack jobs, but will charge extra (several different time frames available). There is a pricing list posted somewhere around the manifest office. You did miss a great weather weekend, but the DZ was fairly slow. Not many tandems and the up-jumpers seemed to scatter this weekend with other things going on. Real friendly group, and there is sometimes jumping during the week, just give a call up there to find out when tandems are flying or a group of upjumpers took the day off to play. If you show up, I'm sure someone will jump with you. Best, Dru - - "Baseball is 90% mental. The other half is physical."

I don't know if Icarus sends out demos directly but you should try to get your hands on a Safire 2. I think the Ranch Pro Shop has demos that they rent, plus you would get to jump at the Ranch. Best of luck. Best, Dru - - "Baseball is 90% mental. The other half is physical."

I haven't read the books, and was really disappointed in the movie. I think it is the worst one so far. The first movies were interesting and kept my focus; this one I found myself fidgiting in my chair and looking around the theatre to see if I was the only one not enjoying it. I will echo the comments that the Order was rarely involved, but they only touched on most of the new concepts, there was never any real development of the characters or the plot line. I was disappointed and definitely had more fun at Transformers. Best, Dru - - "Baseball is 90% mental. The other half is physical."

Another news story lists them from spec ops... http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,289551,00.html Sorry I lack the clicky skill. Best, Dru - - "Baseball is 90% mental. The other half is physical."

I put around 300 jumps on my Spectre 230 (I am 6'1" and 300 out the door). Loved the soft, long openings, and the strong flare. A great canopy. You can't go wrong with the above mentioned canopies. I recently demoed the pilot, safire and sabre and purchased a safire 2 209. Aerodyne and PD will both send you demos, try em out. Icarus is a little tougher but worth looking into. Have fun with it. Good Luck, Best, Dru - - "Baseball is 90% mental. The other half is physical."

I travel to the area for business... Frontier skydivers is the closest to UB though I have yet to have the chance to jump there. Sometime this summer hopefully. You could also cross the border to Skydive Burnaby, but I couldn't offer an opinion as I haven't jumped there. Both are on my to do list. Best, Dru - - "Baseball is 90% mental. The Ranch versus Skydive Long Island?
druvaughn replied to TheCapt's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Though I have yet to be there for the 4th of July boogie, I would have to say the Ranch is the ticket... - - "Baseball is 90% mental. The other half is physical." -

Very well, where do I begin? My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low-grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen-year-old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink, he would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy...the sort of general malaise that only the genius possess in the insane lament. My childhood was typical...summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent, I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds...pretty standard, really. At the age of twelve, I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen, a Zoastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum...it's breathtaking, I suggest you try it - - "Baseball is 90% mental. The other half is physical."

Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin van-guarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. -- I do have a test today, that wasn't a lie. Its on European Socialism. I mean, really, whats the point? I'm not European, I don't plan on being European, who gives a crap if they're socialists. They could be facist anarchists, it still wouldn't change the fact that I don't own a car. -- You screw up just this much, you'll be flying a cargo plane full of rubber dog shit out of Hong Kong. -- No, what you have are bullets, and the hope that when your guns are empty I'm no longer standing, because if I am you'll all be dead before you've reloaded. -- - - "Baseball is 90% mental. How much of an issue is CG??? I would say its a large issue that often goes unchecked... I am seeing more and more people in lightly loaded Otters racing to sit on the floor. This is fine until 1 of the engines goes down, then W&B becomes a big issue. I agree with another poster that more and more people are racing towards the door, even if the first group out is still hanging on. W&B brings down planes and should be given more attention in our sport. Best, Dru - - "Baseball is 90% mental. The other half is physical."

Football and Basketball players...
druvaughn replied to RkyMtnHigh's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The MCL controls (as I was told) controls the lateral stability of the knee. I tore mine and was able to hold the top of my leg stiff and everything below the knee would wobble... Using it is fine until the joint is out of line when you put weight on it, then you run into larger problems. Nothing a really impressive tape job or knee brace can't fix. Being a tendon/joint issue, the solution isn't steroids, its Cortizone!!! - - "Baseball is 90% mental. The other half is physical."
