  1. Sure, it's just the lower left side that has the metal. Without having to modify/cut the box or need tape to hold the plug in place? The Hypeye plug sticks out almost an inch from the back of the camera. I sold my HC5, got a box left for sale, but no HC3 here to check, haven't even seen one close enough to remember where the A/V port is... If the HC3 is shorter than the HC5 you'll have room (the box fits about flush with the back of a HC5), and tot the right of the HC5 there is a lot of room (), otherwise you'll have to cut out the box. ciel bleu, Saskia

  3. Don't know about the boxes you mention, but just a FYI: the Tonfly box is NOT an option for a HC5 + Hypeye as the metal part blocks acess to the half-moon port (Cam-eye works absolutely fine as do the raynox 3032/5050). ciel bleu, Saskia

  6. 1:1.8 is totally different from 1:1.18 Still, 1.2 might be considered high for less than 200 jumps yes. Also important is what you've been jumping so far, what your instructors have to say, where you jump, and what the reserve in that rig is going to be. A M3 fits up to a PD160R which is way too small for you, now maybe you could fit a Optimum 176 in there if you're willing to wait a year to get it and it frankly would still be considered too small for you: you want a WL of 1.0 or lower for your reserve, ie a PD193R would be suitable. Oh and you're not that current either. Yup, too small for both the main and definitely for the reserve! ciel bleu, Saskia
  7. LP (for miniDV) squeezes more data (of the same quality) in the same space because it uses thinner tracks. Camcorders/playback decks can correct for small dropouts/errors but these thinner tracks run a higher risk of being totally unreadable, which cannot be corrected. ciel bleu, Saskia
  8. Why would you run the risk of more errors (dropouts, glitches, not-readable tapes) when shooting vid costs 4 bucks for an hour tape? Same thing goes for reusing tape. If someone is paying you to shoot vid, ie tandemvids etc, or the video is important like you're in a competition, don't use LP. For FS4 training etc, might work, but you're safer staying with one speed for the entire tape, and if you want to keep the tapes for archival purposes shoot regular SP. ciel bleu, Saskia

If you want full functionality from Nikon-mount lenses, you can: - put all AF-S and their non-Nikon equivalent lenses on D40/D60/D3000/D5000 type cameras. - put all AF-S/AF and their non-Nikon equivalent lenses on D70/D80/D90 type cameras. - put all AF-S/AF/MF and their non-Nikon equivalent lenses on D100/D200/D300/D700/D1/D2/D3 type cameras. So yes, any lens that'll work on a D40 will work on any other Nikon DSLR. ciel bleu, Saskia
  10. I would hesitate to put more than 100 euro into an older laptop like that. For editing, nothing beats a tower, however you need to have a place to put it at the DZ and you lose the mobility. I have both a good tower and a good laptop, so I use the tower when I can but have the laptop for when I need to be mobile. Of course this isn't a cheap solution ciel bleu, Saskia
  11. This is the one I have, I see what you mean: on the PI website there is a totally different Altitron. Never seen that one before let alone 'in the flesh'. Their customer service still sucks majorly though ciel bleu, Saskia
  12. I have one, I hate it except for the fact that a) it was only 10 bucks and b) it's purple. However it goes through batteries fast, batteries that are impossible to get by the way, and it is hard to read from an angle etc, the contrast on them is quite bad, nowhere near as good as the pictures shown on the/this website. Also customer care from Parasport Italia is notoriously bad, in stark contrast to L&B and Alti2. If you want digital but nice big display I'd suggest the Altitrack. ciel bleu, Saskia
  13. Why no neon for reserve pilot chutes/freebags? Does the neon colored fabric not last as long or something? I had 2 reserve rides with a half dayglo orange half white reserve pilotchute, very easy to follow in the sky as it turned around it acted like a flash light, loved it! Also much easier to find on the ground than the black, purple and the white freebags that are more usual. ciel bleu, Saskia

  15. The thing is, canon and nikon just WORK for skydiving. If you're gonna try something else, you're a test dummy. You may find that they're not gonna last as long (example some Panasonic 3ccd video cameras), have problems with image stabilisation (you do not want IS on the sensor in general and definitely not for skydiving which is what most other brands offer), have other moving parts (example the Fuji PRO series fullframe still cameras), annoying/deal breaker stuff like that, and you won't be able to borrow someone elses battery/charger/lens/flash etc. So what you want are reviews from skydivers, not just dpreview etc. ciel bleu, Saskia

  17. Dont know what you normally jump, but it may not be a good idea to get a "weird" backup canopy like this. I'd rather look for something similar (best case the exact same canopy, same size) or more docile to what you normally jump. At least that's what I prefer for my backup/back-to-back rigs, and I've heard the same from others. ciel bleu, Saskia
  18. Plus don't forget to check your (freefall) footage on a PC screen not just on a TV screen as I find a lot of cameramen do. A PC shows quite a bit more frame than a TV so if you edit linear and your clients watch your DVD on a pc there can be nasty surprises if you didn't check. Plus it is REALLY annoying for anyone having to edit your footage on a pc if stuff shows Can you tell I never have to deal with this.....? ciel bleu, Saskia
  19. I had a Diablo 120 for a little bit, no way I was gonna jump that thing with a wingsuit. NO FRIGGIN WAY. I did do a few wingsuit jumps with a vengeance 135, felt much safer in comparison JohanW jumped my diablo 120 with a wingsuit (at a somewhat higher WL than I was), maybe he can chime in. He didn't buy it off me, in fact he jumps a triathlon 120 now I know one guy who wingsuits with a diablo 90 something, he seems to like it (but he jumps a velo too so he's more used to sensitive canopies), and I think there's a 135 diablo in another wingsuiter's rig. I now have a nice pilot 124 and a fusion 120 for backup, both nice wingsuit canopies, so I'm a happy (safer) camper these days ciel bleu, Saskia
  20. My point is that its ok to buy a camera now, learn how to work it from the ground first, then start jumping it. True, especially for stills camera. However it rarely seems to work out that way - pretty soon after someone has aquired a camera, they're gonna jump it. ciel bleu, Saskia

  22. You buy a nikon remote and use that plug + a bit of the wire. Either cut off the canon plug and connect the wires or (better option) leave the canon plug alone and connect the nikon plug to a female for the canon plug. That way you can always switch out the tongueswitch for another without having to bother about the plug. Or, easiest of all, contact Laszlo for a ready-made Nikon compatible pro-mouth switch ciel bleu, Saskia
  23. Quick (novice) question... do free-flyers have a generally faster fall rate (especially head down or sit-fly) than belly flyers? If so should free-flyers jump first?? or has it more to do with pull altitude. Just trying to get a feel for whats eventually coming... thanks Bellyflyers fall slower so end up with more displacement by the uppers, they could drift over freeflyers if the freeflyers exited before. So, generally accepted exit order (certainly when dropping against the uppers) is first belly groups big to small, then freefly groups big to small, then solos and high pullers, AFF, tandem, wingsuit. CRW can go first or last too depending on their ideal spot. Basically you rely on horizontal separation not vertical. And yes, letting a newbie go out after a tandem goes against the accepted exit order and frankly is a potentially very dangerous idea. ciel bleu, Saskia
  24. It's a canopy here in The Netherlands you need 400 jumps for, it scared me more than my vengeance ever did. Yes the diablo needs counter steering, as do most if not all HP canopies. Needless to say, be very careful with low toggle turns flying it. ciel bleu, Saskia
  25. Don't forget it also has a remote, if you need it for linear editing or debriefing on a tv. If you edit and debrief on a laptop/pc this makes no difference but if you're stuck to using a tv the hc5 is a much better camera. Also it's low-light capabilities are much better than the cx100, if that's important (sunset loads, BASE, nightjumps, inside party videoing etc). ciel bleu, Saskia
