Teuge is open in february in the weekends (most other DZs here are closed for the winter), if that is a DZ you want to jump at they'll answer emails during the week: info@paracentrumteuge.nl ciel bleu, Saskia

Of course not, as there is quite a lot of difference in the display: from the Adobe Premiere Pro help file: So always check your footage on a PC not just a TV whenever you change anything on your helmet, to make sure there is no vignetting, no still lens showing, etc etc. And the other way 'round: never do credits etc right to the footage' edge on your PC when people may view it on a TV too. ciel bleu, Saskia

Crash course in video editing import/export
dragon2 replied to ryanl2006's topic in Photography and Video
NVIDIA only? Hm. After the massive GPU problems they've been having, I'm not going to buy a NVIDIA card voluntarily anytime soon I still have one laptop/tablet with a NVIDIA Go 6150 up and running, at least so far: it's sibling died half a year ago when it's GPU (same 6150) basically melted, and HP refuses to fix it That's a EUR 1500 tablet So no ATI support, and no laptop support at all... Oh well, at least it's a start I guess. ciel bleu, Saskia -
Nero Vision can encode some files (most avi files, most mpg etc seem to work fine), and can't encode others, some of that will depend on installed codecs. Don't have any raw gopro footage here to play with... ciel bleu, Saskia

Crash course in video editing import/export
dragon2 replied to ryanl2006's topic in Photography and Video
Try shooting in MPG instead of MTS that'll help for starters, and preferable get a (much) better pc that will also help - a lot. A good dual core or even better one of the new core i5 or core i7 processors, 4gb or more RAM (where DDR3 is preferable to DDR2), the graphics card doesn't matter much, this'll get you a muuuch faster editing platform, say 20 minutes for burning a 10 min MTS movie to DVD and a few minutes less for a MPG movie. Sorry, an ancient 2 GHz just isn't suited for editing AVCHD, as you discovered. ciel bleu, Saskia -
Ehm, I take it you already have >100 jumps since you're jumping a sabre 2 150? If so, look up the list of other 100+ jump canopies and make a choice from those... The sabre2 150 is the most HP canopy (if that's your idea of "fun") you're allowed to jump for a while, so why not get another one of those? What do you like/not like about the sabre2? Why do you need 2 rigs anyway? If you're going to do back-to-back loads, best and safest is to get the same canopy for both rigs. I know, I used to have 2 rigs and multiple canopies for doing freefall, CRW and wingsuit, but your best bet is to jump the same canopy and learn on that. If you want to learn to swoop stick with sabre2 or maybe a fusion. But especially here, or for demo jumping, sticking with one canopy will be much safer and you'll learn quicker. ciel bleu, Saskia

click You want annex 44. ciel bleu, Saskia

It's a SABRE not a saber. As for the date, why not just ask PD themselves? They should know ciel bleu, Saskia

I almost forgot to take a pic of this non-diving linetwist during a Pulse demo jump It happened after a stuck risercover... Was I glad this wasn't my vengeance. I'll trade the original highres for another original highres mal/nuisance shot Might be nice to start a highres collection of 'legal' pics, ie not just something grabbed off the 'net. Maybe post this in the camera forum too, must be more cameraflyers with 'accidental' shots around. I also got video of 2 broken lines (not visible on photo...), this linetwist video, and probably some slider-up or other linetwist vid if I go looking for it. If someone wants to start a video collection... click (not sure how long this link 'll be up) ciel bleu, Saskia

Moving off student gear this weekend!
dragon2 replied to JMS8800's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Um, over here a heatwave requires 400 (!) jumps to jump, hint hint. "You got it cheap' is a stupid reason to buy a canopy that's way over your head. There's plenty of cheap-to-very-cheap 190's out there that are safer, like triathlon, sabre. Know what a hospital stay could cost 'ya? Also a heatwave besides being elliptical so totally unsuitable for a novice in any way it is also flat out dangerous on front risers so don't even go there with that canopy (the noise folds under fairly easily, not a pretty sight, hmmm any guesses why it was so cheap?). Openings will also require you to be very flat and stable and on-heading, otherwise you're gonna use your reserve a lot. Sell it, don't even jump it once, get another canopy, just about every other cheap 190 out there is a much safer choice than this one Also a canopy like that can easily ruin your fun in jumping: getting afraid of the openings because it spins up so easily? Afraid to turn even 5o on final because it dives so much? Better hope you don't have to turn low to avoid someone or something Oh yeah, skydiving was supposed to be fun, right..? ciel bleu, Saskia -
All hail the jumper with 32x more post than jumps ciel bleu, Saskia

You didn't read the sticky yet did you ciel bleu, Saskia

Why would you pick them up when you can't jump 'em for another 150+ jumps? And no they'll likely be not much good for jumping, see the other thread about these in the camera forum, and be sure to read the sticky there too! ciel bleu, Saskia
-
Euh, yeah. Not. Nope. Forgetabboutit. Read the sticky in the camera forum, and please don't give advice about camera flying to another (!) newbie Come back when you have a couple hundred jumps, then you can figure out which camera to jump if you want. ciel bleu, Saskia

Hi, You don't want to go buying anything yet. First you'll jump student gear, after that you'll generally be still on bigger canopies but you can downsize a bit, usually you can rent different sizes and different types of canopies so you can gradually come down in size (depending on where you jump there may or may not be a lot of rules about what you can jump when) and you find a type of canopy you like best. When you got a better idea of 1) whether you'll actually want to CONTINUE skydiving, b) have a bit of an idea what you'll want in gear (size, performance, need for freefly-proof or not, budget) and c) your instructors have a pretty good idea what you'll be happy with and what you'll be able to handle, go start looking for a rig. Usually you'll buy a rig anywhere from 25 jumps to 100+ jumps. When you are going through your student progression you'll gradually buy stuff like your own altimeter, goggles, a helmet, maybe your first suit, some gloves maybe. Focus on all that first. The rig will come later on! Have a look around the gear forum and try a search, plenty of people have asked about their first set of gear too ciel bleu, Saskia

Most of the French canopies are ... different ... yeah. PD isn't the holy grail either though: sabre 1 slammers, sabre 2 slammers/spinners, vengeance spinners... Everyone makes mistakes sometimes ciel bleu, Saskia

There are a few canopies which I really really wouldn't want to land on rears, my previous PdF Springo 120, for one. That canopy will stall so easily and so abruptly on rears, when I did a canopy control course jumping that springo I was 'forbidden' to even try a RR landing with it, while newbies (< 100 jumps) were encouraged to land their canopies on rears that day With a Springo, at 1000ft, I might consider a canopy transfer while I would not jumping just about anything else. Then again, I knew I stopped jumping that Springo for a reason I'm sure there's other canopies that might be pretty dangerous to land using rears (the old PdF Merit comes to mind, which like the Springo is a very flat trimmed canopy with low turbulence and RR tolerance), so definitely try to RR 'flare' up high with a new canopy before you need (or try) it for real! ciel bleu, Saskia

With windchill it's down to -15oC here today. And snowing. So no pretty pictures today So, found other stuff to do. Just looked up a 2yr old video from our neighbours: ever jump out of a plane wearing iceskates? Frozen swoop pond ciel bleu, Saskia

Agreed about pixmania, they don't have a very good name here either. However if you order in another country you're gonna have problems with warranty regardless... Over here, you can get the CX105 for EUR 369 (+ shipping), with a EUR 50 cashback from Sony (coupon and receipt details need to be sent in before feb 15, need a Dutch or Belgian bank account for this I think). This is one of the biggest Dutch photography stores, and this is a very good price

This is what our DZ looks like right now, at least when it's actually sunny enough to jump..... [insert blue smiley here] ciel bleu, Saskia

Error Message on Canon Digital Still Camera
dragon2 replied to airathanas's topic in Photography and Video
Me, I'd get rid of it and get another camera. Once a weird error like that pops up (presuming you're NOT going crazy pressing buttons here), it has probably had enough of skydiving abuse... ciel bleu, Saskia -
Also see pic here, right bit. It's a few years old. I took it from the ground (!) after I was asked to be the bottom jumper on that particular jump, but I bowed out of that one - don't like the death straps ciel bleu, Saskia
