You should be able to ghost the image of the HDD to the SSD, though, I don't know if the OS would bitch about it, I doubt it. Very simple to do, could take a couple hours depending how much info is on the drive. If you've got a friend in the industry that has ghost, might be worth calling in a favor. Better not, as an SSD has a different allignment from a HDD. Using an SSD is worth it though, the pc will run much more smoothly overall. You'll notice especially when you're back to using a pc that doesn't have an SSD ciel bleu, Saskia

"Wow" doesn't begin to cover that... What was this anyway, AFF or coach jump? Either way, fail. And those riggers deserve a bottle! ciel bleu, Saskia

On the XR500 you have the option to record on either HDD or Memory card so I don't see why this camera shouldn't be considered as an option. Then by all means go out and jump one. ciel bleu, Saskia

I have a Foil and an PdF Atom, reason why: they were cheap! If I were to buy new, the Zero gets good reviews from everyone I know that has jumped it. Don't know what rig I'd buy if I had the money for a new one. PdF has crappy costumer service and loooong wait times so those are good reasons to not buy anything new from them. ciel bleu, Saskia

Not really. My accuracy rig has a 252 main and a 176ish reserve. Fine by me, no reason to get a student-sized reserve for this rig. My main freefall rig has a 135 main and a 120 reserve, I've jumped mostly 120ish canopies for a couple years already so it's not smaller than I'm used to. I also had a bunch of jumps on reserves already, plus a bunch of jumps on similar 7cells (lightning). If everything goes alright sure I can land my reserves just fine. If I run into "issues" however, gearwise, spot-wise or physical, I've got trouble on my hands. And would likely wish very hard for a 150 or bigger reserve. The first time however I was under a 128 reserve after chopping a 135 main (at ~250 jumps and a WL of 1.15), I broke my nose on landing. Sure wished I had a bigger reserve than. Reserves don't fly and land like your main does, so even a reserve the same size as the main you're used to can be 'interesting' to have to land. So, my tips: Try and keep the reserve bigger than your (smallest) main, definitely not go any smaller. Try to keep the wingloading low (1.0 is good). Try to get a demo jump of your reserve before buying, shouldn't be hard with a PD-R or Optimum to arrange that. ciel bleu, Saskia

A bit longish, but kewl nonetheless

And you'd be wrong, IMHO. Flat, belly to earth at deployment distributes the shock better.... A backsliding opening once landed me in the hospital, so I tend to agree there. ciel bleu, Saskia

Wanted-old Interceptor pilot chute set-up
dragon2 replied to skypilotA1's topic in Canopy Relative Work
The retractable needs to be the right length for your canopy. Why not have your rigger make you the bridle from dacron? Attach a (2nd hand) non-retractable PC (and a kill-cone if you want), and you're set. ciel bleu, Saskia -
I pretty much always wear (good fitting) gloves. Thin ones in summer, 2 layers in winter. pros: - if you are used to wearing gloves, jumping in winter is less of a transition - any problem on landing or on opening that could have damaged your hands (skin) now will most likely only damage your gloves, if even that - for FS, you want gloves so points show for the judges - for swooping, you want gloves - on exit, this way I don't care if the bars are coooooold - same for colder-than-expected weather or even rain - you shouldn't do canopy relative work without gloves - when dropping static line students, gloves are good as well. cons: - price - miss the feeling of the wind on your hands - I tend to leave mine in the van - a bit less feeling in your hands so practice opening and your emergency procedure with gloves too, a lot ciel bleu, Saskia

Either do it using software like described above, or pony up for a usb dvd drive. Both ways work. Most of the time I use the software method, but while an external dvd drive might not get much use but it does come in quite handy sometimes, I found ciel bleu, Saskia

Um, I'm ok with voting for someone on here, but I'm not voting down another design if I actually like it. And I do quite like the car/couple/dog, myself Even though that designer is a bit over 12 ciel bleu, Saskia

Where is summary of how to do basic free fall moves?
dragon2 replied to mixedup's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
At this stage, you really should ask your own instructors how to do specific moves. Or rather, they'll tell you what specific moves to perform on each jump, and how. There's multiple ways of how to turn for example, and you should stick to the way your instructors want you to turn, for now. It's really good that you want to know stuff, but at the stage you're at, you should be getting info from your instructors not the 'net ciel bleu, Saskia -
On another internet board I'm apart of, people were basically saying that it was impossible for me to have made 3,000 jumps in the past 11 years. Needless to say they're idiots. Not just about skydiving, they really are idiots. I like discussions about how fast we can go: apparently, according to highschool science, we cannot go any faster than 70 kmh in freefall, and they can PROVE that ciel bleu, Saskia

Um no it's not. Like PharmerPhil says. You're confusing fisheye with barrel distortion I think. Totally different. ciel bleu, Saskia

Found a tandemvid of mine from last weekend on YT, CX105 + Raynox HD3032PRO http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjeoXmKheVs ciel bleu, Saskia

The 3035 is the exact same lens as the 3030, 3031, 3032, etc etc Anyway a lof of the footage in our weekend videos is shot with sony cx cameras these days, most with a raynox .3. Video from last week: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMswUDKyWJE Bigway stuff in here is shot with a hc5 + raynox .3 tandem shot, solo exit shot, FS8, guitar shot: CX105 + raynox .3 CF: CX without a WA lens FS4: HC5 + waycool .45 (crappy lens for a HD camera) Freefly stuff: CX116 + a flat .3 (same, and lots of vignetting too) FS coach jumps: I think that's a CX105 + a flat lens, not 100% on that ciel bleu, Saskia

For skydiving, you want the (older) CX100-106 or the CX115-116. All other new Sony models have OIS which sucks for skydiving. So the newwest thing isn't the best in this case. ciel bleu, Saskia

1) you don't need (or even want) your canopy to stall for landing 2) you want the canopy lines long enough so that using one or both frontrisers doesn't deflect the tail. If you want to shorten your brakelines, do so only a few cm at a time, try it out and flare a couple times before your actual landing flare. And leave yourself room for frontriser use: even if you don't use them for landing you may want to use them up high, or to prevent getting blown backards a lot someday. If you want to determine if your brakes really are too long, start by looking up at your canopy while in full flight. In full flight there should be a bow in your brakelines. Now go to full brakes ("a quick flare"), then let the brakes up quickly and immediately grab both frontrisers, pull them down as fast as you can, keep them there. Look up. The tail shouldn't be deflected by the brakelines now, but you don't need a lot of slack (a big bow) here either. ciel bleu, Saskia

This your subjective opinion. About incident with the device all is accurately written in the given theme. Please explain????? That we know nothing about it. And that any incident with a cypres (1 or 2) isn't worth discussing in this thread (or elsewhere). It's really really funny how any argument against an Argus is taken as FACT and how in contrast any argument against a Cypres is taken as LIES, or at best as irrelevant, by default. ciel bleu, Saskia

In performance, no, as the above posts point out. But, just a guess, maybe he meant in packing volume? If you buy a ZPX Pilot, it'll pack smaller than a normal ZP canopy. ciel bleu, Saskia
