Are you saying your national association (government) accepts the workmanship of a US TSO'd factory but not the rigging done in that factory? That is nothing short of a protectionist tax on you by your local rigger's guild. They suck! We have to have a yearly check done by a Dutch rigger. If the rig hasn't had that check+repack, no jumping it. It also needs Dutch papers in the first place, which have to be signed, and the rig needs a lead seal. I'm pretty sure ours is not the only country that does this, Germany for instance too. Used to be we needed the repack in between the yearly checks to be Dutch too, but that changed since last March, so if you had a reserve ride in Ampuria or Deland you can still jump the rig back home without ANOTHER repack. ciel bleu, Saskia

Can you even jump a rig that has never been repacked + inspected by a local/national rigger? I know we can't but no clue about UK. ciel bleu, Saskia

Depends on how heavy you are, you do not want to load it over 1.0 so if your body weight is max 63 kg AND you work towards this relatively small canopy, you could jump it. If you're heavier than that, no. ciel bleu, Saskia

My PC 109 is dead, long live my PC 109!
dragon2 replied to SkymonkeyONE's topic in Photography and Video
Did you look for a pc106 and pc107 too? I know these have their limitations but they're the exact same size and take the same accessories so that's a plus. I just (today) got a 2nd hand pc106E from an ebay-like website, because mine got nicked, now I have a double set of accessories, which is very useful. Still that mine got nicked, that camera was a world champion too (JT flew it in Germany). I never even got to fly it myself ciel bleu, Saskia -
Sonic Foundry playing clips backwards
dragon2 replied to spanky39154's topic in Photography and Video
Don't know that particular software, but you could try a clip speed of -100. ciel bleu, Saskia -
You don't get loose lines, you get a slight fold in the canopy. Of course you still load all your lines. ciel bleu, Saskia

If you want to fly flatter or steeper for a crw jump, because of your wingload/linetrim/etc, you can add an extra set of french links to either the front or the back links, thereby changing the trim of the canopy a bit. It's not as good as changing the trim of a lightning from sequential to rotation and vv, because you warp the canopy a bit this way (you're changing HALF the trim not the whole canopy), but it works. I could do with a few less kilos of lead which was worth it for me! It's a quick-fix temporary mod, very useful when jumping slightly unmatched canopies. ciel bleu, Saskia

Come again? I missed the part about how that applies to AFF students on sunset loads. It's way harder to find someone after dark? Or for the student to land after dark if he pulled really high? ciel bleu, Saskia

You forgot slider-up, if you want I have some video from last weekend Also, the music is a major destraction (at least to me), if I was making a ideo like that I'd either lose the music altogether or use something low-key. it's supposed to be serious, pay attention, not a boogie video. ciel bleu, Saskia

Well yeah, but for stuff like world team, square-ish would be much better, and for crw, a 16:9 camera on its side And hey, I DO frame while shooting It doesn't always WORK though ciel bleu, Saskia

ET and Jasper came in fifth Not bad for newbies

For some stuff it works, for some it doesn't. I like it for swooping, tandem, maybe wingsuit, but i don't like it so much for FS, CRW, accuracy. ciel bleu, Saskia

That's a crw mod, for steeper flight. I used extra links to save a few ounds of lead myself. Less flare though, so wouldn't jump it like that for freefall jumps. ciel bleu, Saskia

I presume you can get a subscription on each. I only know about our own magazine, if you can read German, Dutch shouldn't be much of a problem ciel bleu, Saskia

Saskia, If I were to go to your country, would they not let me jump my own rig then? I have about 70 jumps on my Sabre-120 now and have no "issues" I can think of landing it (just skills/experience to learn I guess like anyone). Just curious. I think that on the whole, if the wingload, canopy type and size are not outrageous, you're good to go. You "should" be on a sabre2 150 here with max wl of 1.3, but if you can show you've jumped a smaller canopy lots before and you don't go over 1.3, I don't THINK you'd have problems. But the chief instructor could stop you jumping it anytime. I think if you'd just keep quiet about it, you'd be fine ciel bleu, Saskia

I just remembered, when one of those 2 girls was complaining about her perpetual landing troubles, she was advised to buy a 107 because her 120 was obviously too big for her at .9 One more for the canopy rules. Both girls quit jumping after a few hundred jumps and both of them went into BASE (big canopies anyone?). ciel bleu, Saskia

If you're scared of it, don't jump it. I've seen 2 lightweight girls buy a 120 to get wingload of .9-1.0 and even after lots of jumps on it (100's) they had trouble landing their canopies because they were so damn small. This is one of the reasons of our nationak canopy rules, you now cannot jump a 120 before you have 700 jumps, which I find a bit restrictive but a 120 at 50 jumps is clearly not a good idea either. It's 400 jumps before a 135 and 100 jumps for a 150, so all the featherweights are jumping a 150 until 400 jumps when they are allowed to switch to a 135 not all of them do! Some even stay on a 170 for a long time. I started on a spectre 150 at 1.0 at 75 jumps, and went to a 135 at 350 jumps or so (this was before the canopy rules), it didn't give me any problems then which proves that I was ready for it. The 150 was fine for me all this time and would've been fine longer. Most girls are not as interested in swooping and coming in fast as the boys seem to be, a

You could always make your own, plenty of mals on skydivingmovies for instance. I got this mal on tape somewhere http://www.12000ft.com/video/22.html ciel bleu, Saskia

Did you do these yet? http://www.parachute.nl/fileadmin/knvvlpa_upload/pdf/KNVvL_oefenprogramma_Canopy_Control.pdf ciel bleu, Saskia -
There's a really nice Dutch mag too the Sportparachutist. And I really like Frittfall, even though if it's just for the pictures. France's Paramag is good too, even if it is French ciel bleu, Saskia

Accessory Gear Rental Policies / Prices?
dragon2 replied to Gary73's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
We have free rental of chest alti's (SL), 5 euro for hand alti, this is from the dz. Goggles you need to buy yourself always. Helmets (pro-tecs) and jumpsuits (FS or coverall) you can always rent from the gearstore, at a few euros per jump or per day, depending on the suit. If you're really stuck for a suit, I've seen people jump the tandem suits once or twice. But we're lucky to have the large gear store here! Most people buy their gear one piece at a time, there's no real hurrying people to buy stuff (except for the goggles and for gloves if cold weather). ciel bleu, Saskia -
The d-boxes are made for skydivers. You generally only skydive with sony mini-dv camcorders since these have proven themselves to not have too many bugs (with some exceptions) and to generally last in freefall. Hence, generally you will only find boxes for sony camera's. You could always have someone make a custom box for you of course. But you still cannot skydive with it so why do you want a box? ciel bleu, Saskia

Thumb tangled in brake line - stupid newbie trick
dragon2 replied to GLIDEANGLE's topic in Safety and Training
I managed something similar on the 2006 960-jumper mass jump in Bangkok. Got my wrist stuck in my brakeline somehow, the triple risers were wrapped in there too, generally a mess. Couldn't untangle myself, didn't really want to cut it up - it was a borrowed rig, and if I moved my arm down it did flare, and heck it was a Spectre and there was some wind, so I landed it like that. No problem except for the fact that I had to fly in light brakes all the time when I was SUPPOSED to do some proximity flying for pics. Well I'm on one pic and the brakeline problem doesn't even show Tip: if you're going to be stupid and get stuff caught in your brakelines, a demo jump with loads of traffic isn't the most suitable time ciel bleu, Saskia
