The other day I did a no pressure 2-way where we were just going to do forward motion and docking. After I blew the exit. I recovered to match fall rate with my jump buddy and he set a heading for us. As I was moving toward him I seemed to keep orbiting. What causes this, and how can I correct it? Exactly the downside of a DZ operating only a 182 that is running mainly as a tandem mill is that Tandem plus Vidio = solo jumper... now if it had a 206 or the 207 that might not be so bad. You need a security clearance where I work. The past 24-months or so have produced an alarming increase in applicants who have the skills, but they have terrible credit ratings that disqualify them. These are smart folks with serious college degrees, not basket weaving. I understand that Police departments across California are experiencing similar difficulties. Interesting times ahead! Typicall Bad credit is only one factor in the clearance process. There are other factors to be considered. There has to be some other unfavoriable condition for the clearance to not pass. I like this reply. We all have to remember that Tandems and Student jumps is the Dropzones Bread and butter. For the most part the profit margin on a load entirely of sport jumpers isn't as much as a loat of tandems and video. We just basically take the ride up and help to pay for gas. Much like the Greatful Dead song, "Touch of Grey," tandems are a mixed blessing. You know there isn't only one cause for hard openings. However there are things you can do to prevent hard openings. I am sure if you did a search you could come up with a lot of threads. You mentioned that you measured the lineset, yet you didn't compair your findings to what they should be, or at least you didn't let us know. From your story it sounds as if you only had two very positive openings on your canopy, and then you continued to jump it. Could you have had poor body positioning on one or both of the jumps? Perhaps not slowing down enough after a track? Just a couple of ideas to put out there. Also are you using your legs to help to distribute the shock from the opening.
