for the past couple of weeks the price of oil in the states dropped massively, so any rise in the value of the USD we are seeing I would guess would be coming from that. If the US starts offshore drilling expect to see the USD jump up again, and the cost of crude to drop. From what I have been reading and hearing the dems are actually starting to realize that simply using less is not going to help us out of this crunch. it is only part of the solution. Use less make more. Win win for everyone. I would still be wary of the USD. My brother is actually making money on some JPY vs GBP plays, as well as just holding the turkish lyra trade open as well. Just some recent news... althought the price of the barrel has gone up a little bit due to the storms in the gulf region, and the housing market at least near where I live has seemed to stabilize a little bit here. Turkish Lira, Vietnameese Dong are both pretty solid. Right now I suspect the USD is going up because the cost per barrel for WTI crude just took a nosedive. Which was caused by the republicans in congress trying to get the dems back into office to talk about allowing offshore drilling for oil as part of a comprehensive energy package. Although it is hard to want to work something through when the other partner has given up a long time ago. Does she take medication for depression? I am not saying that meds is a cure all, but it can help get over the hump until she can find that which makes her happy. Ok so I have an old canopy that I am wondering what to do with it. It is an old Glide Path Fury 220. DOM is in the year 1987. Number of jumps are unknown. Has a couple of patches on it. As I was taking it off my rig to install the newer canopy The french links split and some of the lines at the attachment point have been cut into a little, otherwise the lines are in just about as decent a condition as the canopy is in. I would say that if you got the lines fixed it would be jumpable, but it would cost more to get the lines fixed than the canopy is worth. Part of me thinks it wouldlook pretty cool just hanging on my cealing in my living room, and if I ever decide to start to learn to become a rigger I can use it so practice patching, and other skills that I will need to learn. Right now I am working on learnign a new to me canopy. I need to open up my pattern more than I am used to. I used to fly an old F111 7 cell, and now I am flying a not as old ZP 9 cell that is 10 sq feet smaller. Definitally a learning curve there. Well since we dien't get to speak last night here are my thoughts. Where everyone said get your landings Videoed is one of the best tools that you can utilize for learning to land better. Also another thing to focus on is where you are looking at flare time. Brian Germain suggests you use the accuracy trick and look where you are going. Don't look at the horizon, and don't look straight down. Also Try to use your periferal vision to take in the big picture. Now as for trying another canopy... Upsizing may not be a bad choice, however becareful jumping on windier days due to the fact that you won't have as much penetration. A problem with your size and canopy choice is that even if you have a lightly loaded canopy you are getting into the smaller size canopies where the line sets are shorter, and as such they are a lot more responsive to you inputs. If you look at someoneflying a lets say Sabre2 210 loadeed at 1:1 is not the same as someone jumping the same canopy at the same loading on a 135. You can find an article on the PD website where tehy discuss that. Pick up a copy of, "The Parachute and its Pilot." It is a very infotmational book, and it is easy to read. As some other people have suggested do a whole mess of hop and pops. Do practice flares up high. Stop where you fell you canopy pitch behind you. See what happens when you slowly add toggle input vs when you stabb you brakes down. Remember the canopy is not going to fly the same on every jump, because there are a lot of factors involved, however it will fly in a similar manor every jump. Do some leg extentions, and that should help prevent some of the pain you are experiancing. Then again another option is to choose another activity to help stay fit.
