So, then -- are hop and pops for the purpose of swooping not skydives? Wendy W. Just for arguments sake . . . It is my opinion that if your body exits a flying aircraft, and you have gear attached to your body that theoretically will allow you to do this same act again, it is a skydive. i think different, i recon that if you leave the plane and your parachute is deployed straight away, its just a parachute jump. skydiving involves freefall So a static line student doesn't have nearly as many skydives as he/she thinks they do? nope, they have parachute jumps if they opened straight away, skydives if the go into freefall Here is what the USPA says is a skydive It says nothing about freefall Divot your source for all things Hillbilly. Given the popularity of the show in NY I don't think it is that odd. If you buy tickets now in NY the wait for a show is about 6-9 months, unless you want to pay through the nose at a ticket broker. Divot your source for all things Hillbilly. Anvil Brother 84 SCR 14192

My beloved pet died yesterday. Now I'm really PISSED!!!!

I say shoot the dogs. If the owner is not going to be responsible about his pets he shouldnt own them. All you have to say if and LEO showes up is that you felt threatened, and feared for the life of your newborn after you saw what those dogs did to your pet cat. Hey bro just think of what you can do with that money that you aren't wasting on cigarettes. More jumps, or save up for that piece of shiney new gear you wanted, or you can be smart and put away money for retirement. Divot your source for all things Hillbilly. Anvil Brother 84 SCR 14192

Dude it is really fucking funny. If you are a fan of Monty Python. You will laugh your balls off. If you aren't a fan of Monty Python. You will still laugh your balls off. They ripped a little from the move, as well as ribbing musical theater. It is worth it. Buy your tickets as early as possible. Divot your source for all things Hillbilly. Anvil Brother 84 SCR 14192

What piece of skydiving knowledge was passed to you only because you bought someone a beer? I had a tidbit of information passed to me one night simply because I was bitching about how much my thighs were hurting me as I was handing someone a beer. Buying beer for "firsts" an American thing?
Broke replied to jumpingjimmy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The beer is not specifically a tip for instructors. Beer is for everyone. Beer for firsts was explained to me like this: Skydivers will toast your accomplishments, but are too lazy to buy the alcohol to do so, so you buy beer then they toast your accomplishment. If you see free beer at the DZ find out who and why, and then toast appropriately. You never know you may just make a new friend. Penalty beer: It is not so much about the beer as it is about staying safe. However you should buy the beer. Then when people ask where the beer came from they will say who and why, and you just might learn something to help you not make the same mistake again. Divot your source for all things Hillbilly. I hear you there. I ate too many cookies over the past few hours. I am honestly trying to keep my wingload down, but food keeps calling to me. I rode my bike to work today. Man I hate having a headwind. I also need to dry out my clothes now. Divot your source for all things Hillbilly. Anvil Brother 84 SCR 14192
