We'll have a few Alpines in a PPC event in Australia in 2 weeks, which should show a fair comparison in results. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

taking a slow sideways path, to get behind a group, and slowly sinking down, it works very smooth and predictable in big groups. Then not in this agressive way (like any maneuver) but taking more time. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Its better to always remain a flying airframe in any move, regardless of it being a dive or swoop down. These type of crunched up dives 'stop flying' meaning if you need to suddenly break of switch direction, you will need a second or more of 'recovery' to start flying again. So id strongly discourage doing that kind of balling up to get down. You always want to maintain the same direction as the formation, with at most a few degrees difference. To quickly dive down a burn altitude, make a side to side move, adding downward angle to your move on the way 'away' or 'out', similar to a quick left/right on a canopy. This allows you to always keep a visual on the formation, and, if need be, abort the dive quickly (as the most aggressive part of the dive is 'away' from the group or person you're heading towards). On bigger groups you'd also do this behind the group, and much less aggressive. But here is a short example showing a quick dive, without balling up (just slightly taking drive out with the legs, combined with a high chest, for a second, to not overshoot) https://youtu.be/DCmT6cG1syY Doing this sideways 'sway' or 'chasse' slower (holding the suit on its side longer) will bleed of more altitude. Always 'aim away from meat' when doing aggressive moves, and never at a formation. The move back towards your 'target' should be the smaller one. Normally you'd of course do that much less agressive, but just an example on how to bleed of a good 300 ft in a second or two. 360 spirals and other moves where you differ with formation heading to much are strongly discouraged. Kinsdag Boogie 2016 was a great succes. In multiple ways, one of the coolest boogies Ive been to. We had 101 slots that amazingly sold out in less than 24 hours. 2017 we'll be back with bigger planes, more slots and even more great Load Organizers. We had a total of 14 coaches/cameraman leading small groups, with a big focus on technical flying and progress. It was more of a skills camp than a boogie. Marcel Verdult, Sandro Bohme, Rob Bakker, Pilvi Juvonen, Giovanni Silvestry, Edo Senica, Jay Champion, Roger Hughes, Adam Foster, Sami Sucksdorff, Nathan Jones, Willy Boeykens, Robert Pecnik, Jarno Cordia A big thank you to the center for the free bar, free food and awesome flying. A full boogie video showing the sick flying will premiere in a few days, but here is a sneak peek showing some photos and video of the event. Especially in point flying and backfly formations, it was an awsome event. Here is a sneak peak on the YouTubes - Video. We had 20 nations represented, from Australia to USA and Russia. For fans of numbers, we had a total of 99 wingsuiters on the DZ (2 sadly cancelled due to illness/work etc) Phoenix Fly 79 Intrudair 9 SFly 3 Rainbow 3 TonySuits 3 Squirrel 3 Birdman 1 In a few days Ill have the full 7 minute boogie video done, showing more of the cool flying. Thanks everyone! See you next year! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

A demo PD optimum I jumped had around 400 jumps. The PD rep said that it was at the end of its lifespan. So 400/500 seems to be the timing, similar to some of the lightweight f111 canopies out there. Though I loved the openings, in terms of glide its not really going anywhere. Now on a ZP WinX and loving it.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Oxygen in the plane is for sure 100% advised, safety wise. In terms of freefall, depending on your performance (how long will you spend flying above 12.000 ft) and your physical fitness you can choose to go with or without. Finding a DZ with proper training and guidence on higher altitude jumps is a must.. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

The seperate production line is due to the more complex construction on the vampire, taking almost double the construction time, which would already strain the normal production queue. The popularity of the suit also leads to such a high volume of orders that it would push the whole production queue back. So they are kept seperate. The workers at PF have been with Robert for over 16 years, from the BM area and are highly trained/skilled at what they do. Robert is in the factory 5 days a week (6 during busy times) doing hands on design, assisting and checking up on production. JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

High volume of orders mean longer lead times. Its a high quality custom made product, and we can't bang out 500 a week. The Vampire SU and Alpine are hugely popular, so at around 14 weeks lead time. The production line is seperate from all other suits, which are at a 5-6 week leadtime (from order to doorstep). JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

I do think its harsh, not in the rule itself, but in the way it's written, as it will create more trouble for us than intended. I've been on dropzones where there are half a dozen tandems on a load, spread so far left/right of jumprun, that its impossible to not pass at +-1000 ft of them to make it back to the dropzone (already passing way, way, way offset/outside of jumprun). And Ive seen those '1000 ft away' be explained shouting by a TM as 'he was 20 ft away' to the DZO. Luckely video usually proves the wingsuit pilot right, and not being unsafe or in any way aiming for a flyby. But with this new rule, 1000ft would be classified as 'within 500ft' quite rapid by many TMs and DZO's, leading to trouble and repercussions in situations where there was no actual safety issue. I think it's a good rule, but also think the way it's writen can lead to abuse... JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Though the rule for sure is harsh, Ive seen several videos of flybys from people with low experience who I wouldnt want anywhere near tandem or aff jumps of friends or familiy of mine. As much as we might not like it, I do feel some people need the rules to keep what they do a bit in the realm of responsible and safe. Most of us think we're further and better in terms of experience, skills and accuracy in our flying than we really are due to the suit we wear. Scaring people we should not be scaring. For sure, the majority is safe, but a few low pulling, unsuspecting tandem buzzing, out landing cowboys can do a lot of damage. Which can lead to a certain public image of being irresponsible, with the new rules as a (be it perhaps panic/kneejerk) response. I don't like it, but I don't blame them.. And that description is why most people struggle...arch, swoop wings back, raise chest if needing to slow down. But present a smooth profile, vs 'curling up' and turning your wingsuit into a big drag-catching tandemdrogue...fly it down, vs fighting it down. Wings should never fold. Knees should not be dropped. You can fly any big suit with trackers, as long as you fly it smooth. But similar to being able to do drifting with a garbage truck...its not the ideal choice to begin with.. That said...any small suit jump should easily clock in at 2 minutes of freefall. Yet most big suit jumps these days fly the suits with arms swooped back, hardly doing anything that would actually demand the big suit flow...if you fly a big expensive suit...USE IT JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

A lot of Hunters hitting the users the last week..here are some initial impressions from the facebooks "I test jumped a Hunter yesterday and agree with all that's been said. I have less experience with the big suits than you guys but really loved this suit. It's got a ton of power and felt really nice to fly." " I think much more power than the Havok. The Hunter has the agility of a small suit but with the lift of a big suit" "How dose it fly competed to the ghost? - "Not even in the same league..." "Apart from slightly less forward speed I reckon it could easily fly with X3/Rebel class" "hunter is a different beast. havok is similar to ghost- but the hunter is a new animal" And here is Scott Paterson making his first few jumps on the Hunter (XRW) Video JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

I use the square black plate that comes with a gopro...just stick that in your suit, click camera onto it and done. If need be, melt 2 holes in the plate, and make a cord (to hang it around your neck). But just any small square thingy with a mount-sticker on it, seems to work mighty fine... That Ghostrider video was a fun video made for the 2004 Herc Boogie by a group of friends. The company itself didn't have much to do with the actual video, aside from the suit used being an s3. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KaKANQaB1k JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Ive posted a new video to YouTube shot in a bit of a different way from the usual GoPro pov. I've asked all jumpers involved to leave their tiny box cameras on the ground, and during all jumps focused on shooting more creative angles using a variety of 16, 35 and 55 mm lenses and shallow depth of field. Hope you boys and girls like it! JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete?

Squirrel WS - Harness abrasion from the zippers?
mccordia replied to mxk's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Though load of a harness during deployment may push on a zippers attachment, there is no sharp edge or teeth touching the webbing with that particular rigging design. Its not capable of causing any wear or tear on the harness as all points in contact with MLW and smooth and free of sharp edges. Handle access and the (deliberately weaker) zipper attachment itself are the only factors to watch with that system, but there is no risk of harness damage/abrasion. On the dual/sliding zipper setup, harnes wear and tear can be bigger a factor. That aside, having a rigger sew a patch of neoprene is probably a better solution to prevent wear and tear of dual/sliding zipper rigging. Using ductape on/next to your MLW is not advisable due to the glue causing possible damage/deterioration of strength (hot weather especially can make ductape 'slip' and spill glue..) What happened to 1999 up to 2007? Granted, formations have been getting bigger, but a lot of the 'doing things that have never been done before' pioneering in wingsuit/base/design and especially formation flying was done in years prior to that. Stacked formations, flat bigways in V / wedge formation, acro etc. When I got into wingsuit flying in 2003, all that stuff was already there and done before. Formations have been getting bigger, and tighter. And we have official validation, but the stuff we're doing now was pioneered in the years before most of us (me included) entered the sport. We have a very ritch history, and though a lot of those guys might not be flying anymore, its a shame a lot of that past is ignored/forgotten...sort of related to ever changing standards (vs a good one) constantly retiring records, and in doing so, also pushing accomplishments from the past out of a lot of peoples minds..
