Do you want to see video of skydivers burning in?
Vectracide replied to Vectracide's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
In light of they most inappropriate post of a link that led to a skydiving fatality video, I was very surprised to see how many thought that it was a defendable action. Personally I was appalled that someone that is a skydiver, albiet a low timer, would think that it was accepable to do so. Perhaps those in the sport for a period of time that allows them to see death have a different perspective than those that are fresh and unjaded. Just in case you are wondering, I picked the top one. The posting of that video was totally wrong and had absolutely no educational value to us as skydivers what-so-ever. Multiple answers allowed. ------------------------------ Controlled and Deliberate..... -
Chris put together this hybrid for us at our first boogie as a club. He also digs the tube action.... ------------------------------ Controlled and Deliberate.....

What a great 100th to have Chris organize a hybid for you. He has one of the best personalities in the sport. Consider yourself lucky to jump there. ------------------------------ Controlled and Deliberate.....

My Xfire2 119 is for sale so I can buy a Katana 107. Interested? ------------------------------ Controlled and Deliberate.....

Hey Billvon, I called PD and Aerodyne myself when building my new rig. I was told that Aerodyne measures the bottom skin uninflated, and PD measures the top inflated. So basically they are damn close to the same canopy when comparing comparable sizings. Dunno if this helps.....but that is all I got. ------------------------------ Controlled and Deliberate.....

Pictures of white top/white bottom/colored ribs canopies

Oh comeon peeps.....everyone knows that yellow with red ribs kicks ass.... Xire2 119 ------------------------------ Controlled and Deliberate..... -
Sounds like a cold start sensor. It adjusts the choke depending on engine temp. If its cold out and its not kickin in the choke enough, or at all, it will start hard. ------------------------------ Controlled and Deliberate.....

All I know is that lens manufacturers are not all alike. I have had 2 differnet .45 lenses. The first one I had was VERY wide. More than my .3. Lost of barrel distortion as well, which was a cool effect. I sold it with my camera and got another new one. I bought the Kenko Titanium .45. What an absolute total piece of shit. I would venture to say that its a .7. I have pics of my master bedroom with the old and the new lens, standing from the same spot in the doorway. There is several, as in 5-6 feet more coverage on both sides with the old lens. Same camera too (PC120). I contacted Kenko, and was basically told to go pound sand. I am happy with my Diamond .3 I would like to get the .2 sometime soon. But I will more than likely purchase them from Way Cool Industries, as their prices are cheaper and the lens is made from the exact Lat and Long on this earth. Different anodizing and labeling, same exact glass. ------------------------------ Controlled and Deliberate.....

Anyone interested in a custom Shoe-cam?
Vectracide replied to Vectracide's topic in Photography and Video
I understand your view, but there are other considerations that I believe that we as skydivers need to think about when releasing heavy objects from the sky. A shoe cam with any camera on it has the energy to kill someone very easily. It most certainly will damage property. Does this mean that I would hesitate to get rid of it if I absolutely had to? Of course not. I do believe that some kind of measure should be taken to try to prevent injury or death to others if we decide to use equipment that is designed to be cut-away in case of emergencies. The design of the shoe cam isn't such that you have to use a PC. It is an option that is there if one so decides. I look at is as a personal choice, such as AAD's, RSL's are personal choices. They are there for safety reasons, but unfortunately have shown to be the cause of several deaths as well. There is always a cost/benefit factor for us in this sport. ------------------------------ Controlled and Deliberate..... -
Anyone interested in a custom Shoe-cam?
Vectracide replied to Vectracide's topic in Photography and Video
Hey Eric. Yeah, the safety margin will have to be covered carefully with the PC. What I am thinking is that the PC will be in the very front of the shoe cup itself. There will be a lip all the way around the inside of the cup that a cover will rest against. The PC will be inside of this void. There are a couple of ways that you could effect the deployment of the PC. The cut-away cable will be like your riser cutaway system, with 2 cables, one chops the shoes heel straps and one releases the cup from inside the shoe. After it leaves, the idea is that the turbulence and air will naturally suck out the PC that will be mounted thru the toe of the carbon fibre shoe. Second design could be that the cutaway cable will release the shoe with only one cable. There would be a second cable that is velcroed around the ankle with the cord traveling thru a loop onthe side of the shoe that will retain the inner PC cover. When the shoe leaves, the cable on your ankle stays and clears the loop, releasing the inner PC cover. I really dont think it will be neccesary to make the PC sprung, as the void is close enough to the open air to effect the release of it. With the inner PC cover, it would be impossible to have the PC come out unless it was chopped. Definitely many different ways to make this work. Any other brain storms would be appreciated. If we really can make this work thru many peoples input, it could be the first DZ.Com inspired device to hit the market. ------------------------------ Controlled and Deliberate..... -
Anyone interested in a custom Shoe-cam?
Vectracide replied to Vectracide's topic in Photography and Video
Ok, so the title got your attention. This is a post to find out if anyone out there is interested in a shoe cam, made to the same specifications as Bonehead's ShuVue, but at a lesser price. I have contacts in the carbon fibre industry, and the parts are easy to purchase. I will be assembling one here in the near future and testing it. I will possibly be adding some safety features to is as well. Like a pilot chute that deploys when cut-away so your camera doesn't go splat. Show of hands to who MIGHT be interested. ------------------------------ Controlled and Deliberate..... -
Well isn't this nice. Dump all my pics off my card onto my computer, and put the card back in the camera. Displays the EOS on the screen and holds for about 15-20 seconds. Then flashes the Error 02 code. I take out the CFC and the camera works great. Put it back in and Error 02 again. I formatted the card with my computer, no dice. Dammit, what's goin on here? Anyone have this problem before? ------------------------------ Controlled and Deliberate.....

I have had my Crossfire2 for about 300 jumps now. It is an amazing canopy that will allow you to learn how to canopy pilot well with proper professional instruction. Its a great platform to learn on before moving into a x-braced. It is a high performing canopy that does take some paying attention to with openings as it can spin up on you if you have bad body position. It is not nearly as sensitive as a x-braced on openings though. The recovery arc is nice and long for a non-x braced, and can develop some really good speed when loaded into the 1.8+ arena. It responds to riser input well, with not alot of pressure. The rears are very responsive. The canopy shuts down so well, that I have no problem downwinding it whenever I want. Openings are the best in the industry, bar none. Long, soft and 80% on heading is how I would describe it. Pro, psycho, or trash pack...it all works. Here is a link to what the canopy is capable of, good and bad. http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=guestpass&id=h37h5 First clip is due to a VERY hurried pack job, and the second clip is what happened to me 2 jumps later with a borrowed rig with my Crossfire in it. I had not a single bruise on me, and the opening was better than most other canopies when deployed slow and stable. I can't recommend this canopy enough.

Hey, does anyone know where I can get my hands on a shoe cam? I might consider purchase if the price is right, or possibly a rental. Even better, how about some specs so I can put one together myself? Anyone? ------------------------------ Controlled and Deliberate.....

Billy, you should be ashamed of yourself for posting that link, its so not likeYOU! ------------------------------ Controlled and Deliberate.....
