I had a horrible spinning problem so I finally went to the wind tunnel to fix that. Then I had to overcome my unbearable fear of freefall. I just didn't like that feeling. It's hard to explain. What I found out was some of that anxiety went away when I got my full face helmet. I think it was the wind noise that bothered me. Also, I found taking deep breaths helps a lot. I still get nervous but it's not as bad as it was. "It is our choices that show what we truly are far more than our abilities." - A. Dumbledore

differences between alti-2 neptune2 and l&b viso
ladyhawke replied to virgin-burner's topic in Gear and Rigging
Big difference at first was the large digital numbers. You can use it as a wrist mount or audible. Most recently the difference is when I was having trouble with my Neptune and I sent it in, they sent back the new upgraded version at no cost and I got it back 10 days later! I just love great customer service!!!! "It is our choices that show what we truly are far more than our abilities." - A. Dumbledore -

Shouldn't we Know more about our Gear?
ladyhawke replied to fpritchett64's topic in Safety and Training
I'm not against a low number jumper paying for a packer if they want to. However, I firmly believe in every skydiver knowing about their gear! I would suggest and highly recommend every skydiver getting together with a rigger and going over everything involved! One on one and ask questions if you don't understand. A routine of practicing your EP's, checking your handles and knowing what to expect from your gear will give you added confidence if you have to save your life!!! It's not what you fling but the fling itself! One of my most fav-o-rite lines from Northern Exposure. I posted a blog on my myspace page about why skydiving has been very good for me. I wish more people who skydive would use it to sort out what is within themselves. There are and will always be skydivers who just don't get it and will continue to walk around in their empty shells fooling no one but themselves. Maybe you became nervous because it was an unfamiliar place and plane. That happens to me too. Oh, and I'm always a little nervous the first jump of the day! "It is our choices that show what we truly are far more than our abilities." - A. Dumbledore

Oh boy, I've had some bad luck myself like: -breaking my ankle on my very first jump trying to stand up the landing! -slamming into a metal building due to target fixation (I'm still living that one down), fortunately nothing broken just headache, cut and bad bruising and -flaring too high (above 25') and bouncing onto the ground which required the bursa sac on my left knee to be removed (nothing broken)! I don't know if it was bad luck, bad mistakes or bad decisions (whatever you want to call it), all I know is it hurt and I didn't want it to happen again! So learn, solve the problem and your skills will improve! In any case, heal fast and if you love skydiving KEEP TRYING!

I hope I'm making the right decision

I demoed a 170 Silhouette and didn't like the way it flew. A little on the sluggish side for me. I like more zippy! I understand everyone's opinions about not downsizing because of container size. So, what I think I will do is look for a used Vector that will fit what I have (and me) and also demo a 150 main. If I don't demo I won't know if I can handle it or not. Flying the canopy is what I love and maybe at this point I can handle a 150. I've got to find that out. Thanks tho for your input! -

No, I didn't know you could do that. I'm so glad I posted this question because now I'm thinking more and not just reacting to get a problem solved. I bought my container at Skyfest last year and got a G-R-E-A-T deal!!! It fit me pretty well, better than others I'd tried but not perfect. Maybe I should go about this in a different manner. Instead of it being a canopy issue, maybe it's a container issue. Maybe I should get measured for a container that fits me and the main and reserve I have. Maybe tho more expensive more safe. I'm thinkin maybe that's the way to go. Does anyone know approx. how long it takes to get a Vector container made? "It is our choices that show what we truly are far more than our abilities." - A. You know what, I think I'll demo some 150's to get the feel before doing anything drastic! I already know from previous demoing I love Safire 2's and Pilots! Thanks all! "It is our choices that show what we truly are far more than our abilities." - A. Dumbledore -

I've talked to all the experienced jumpers at Capitol and most say I wouldn't have such a hard time packing if I had the smaller main. Eric thinks I'll be fine (I love his confidence in me) and I think I'll be fine as long as I jump when there's some wind. I'd be too intimidated at this point to jump a 150 on low or no wind days. ladyhawke replied to ladyhawke's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
When I bought my 1997 Vector I was told it would hold a 170 main and a 160 reserve. So that is what I bought. From the beginning I've had (and packers have had) trouble getting the main to fit into the d-bag and then in to the container. I replaced the old d-bag and I'm still having problems with it. The experienced jumpers I've talked to have said my main is just too big and I should also think about the additional wear and tear on my container, so I am going to downsize to a 150. I sure hope I'm making the right decision!!! What do you think? "It is our choices that show what we truly are far more than our abilities." - A. Dumbledore -
The people who built our pool are skydivers and had been pestering my husband and I for 3 years to go skydiving with them. It just so happened we got a phone call from them the day we returned from sailing the Bahamas for 2 weeks and since I was feeling very proud of myself and such the thrill seeker dare devil adverturer and all when asked if we were up to do a tandem I blurted out SURE! I didn't even ask my husband. When I got off the phone I just told him oh btw we are doing a tandem tomorrow at 3:00! If any one had told me I would be skydiver some day I would've thought they were crazy! But I love this sport even when it exasperates and frustrates me to no end. So I guess you could say my motivation was pride. Ewwwww isn't that one of the seven deadly sins? "It is our choices that show what we truly are far more than our abilities." - A. Dumbledore
