Just an update after 4 days with Eric. We met with a Dr this morning who was very encouraging. The have done some x Rays of his spine and neck and hopefully will be able to remove the neck brace that has been in place since the accident. I know for a fact that Eric can move his arms because I've spent several days holding them. Pray that the films also show there is no damage. The respiratory therapist has adjusted his oxygen to 35% and they are now working on making sure there is no long term damage to his lungs. Hopefully tomorrow his family will also hear when they expect to do the femur surgery because they will not even attempt to bring Eric out of sedation until that is complete. They can't do the surgery until they are fairly certain he can withstand 6-7 hours of surgery. Several people have asked about pictures of Eric. Thanks to those who have posted. If you were at the Memorial Day Boogie Eric was on the Record Jump to the left of DiabloPilot. Keep the vibes and cards coming. Right now the cards are doing wonders for his family and know that we have shared EVERY card with Eric. He is getting quite the collection in his new room. Several have pictures enclosed that have actually been good for his family to see him at a happier time. The nurses have gotten stricter with visiting hours since he has been moved to the CCU from ACCU because they feel he needs to rest more. Laurie just called me and Eric has had a wonderful day. He had surgery today and they are slowly putting him back together. Good news is the Dr's say he will be ok. He will have a long recovery but thankfully he will be ok. Eric is such a fighter and he has just won the fight of and for his life. Thanks to everyone for the thoughts and prayers. Eric was down to 40% oxygen at 9 and I am thinking they have continued to slowly lower the oxygen since then. He is fluttering his eyes so eyeryone is hopeful of even more progress today. "It's a miracle" according to the Doctors. Eric is down to 60% oxygen, he has been placed in traction, and he is actually feeling some pain. Now you say WHOA it can't be good if he is feeling pain, (I did) but it means he has feeling in his extremities so the fact that he does feel it even though he is heavily sedated is a good thing. He is still CRITICAL but all those wonderful vibes and prayers are paying off. For those of you who have sent your love I know Eric and his family are eternally grateful. Now we need a little more help here. Eric's right leg has no pulse at this time. This could be due to all the swelling, but the fact is the blood is not circulating to this area in order to start the healing process. There is also still some concern about one kidney being damaged. Keep Eric in your thoughts and prayers and keep sending them his way. The Doctors really do believe he is fighting so hard just because of all this love and support being sent his way. I understand his family is keeping around the clock vigils so also keep thim in your thoughts. UPDATE... Eric's mom has had a team of specialist brought in so he has the best possible care. They have moved Eric to a second round of surgery which they are saying is a good sign. I understand Eric and a friend were doing a downplane and took it low. Eric wound up going downwind when they broke and was headed right for another jumper. He made a quick low turn and wound up basically impacting with his main. The other jumper shut down his canopy and hit hard but was unhurt. It is going to be a long night for him and his family. Keep them in your thoughts. Also the guy who was doing the downplane with Eric is understandably upset at all of this. I just talked to Laurie who said he has extreme internal bleeding, compound fractures of both legs and a crushed pelvis.
