DZ - Lompoc, Taft, Hollister, CA
plutoniumsalmon replied to jumpslo's topic in Events & Places to Jump
I was at Lompoc and Taft. I would recommend Taft for your AFF (that is where I finished mine). The instructors are great and take their time to teach you all the stuff you need to know. The landing area is huge by Lompoc standards (not counting the river bed) and not often windy. Also unlike Lompoc you dont have to give anybody your credit card number before you even show up to take a lesson. If you want more info PM me or even better call them and talk to Dave the DZO. I hate posting but here it goes Speeding up is the one I use on video and it seems to work just fine. I never heard of anyone using interval on video (talking about video professionals here). I think it has something to do with tape getting up to speed to record. The best way for a time lapse is to use your digital still camera with an intervalometer. What you do is get your camera to take a frame at a set interval. Then bring it into your computer and import it into your editing software in sequence and then play it at regular speed (24 frames, 30 whatever). That way you can get a high def time lapse (your digital camera shoots frames at a higher resolution than video) that is far better looking and you dont have to worry about the hour time limit on your video camera. This is just a rough version of how it is done so if you want more details PM me so I can explain to you how it works. Also to remember that you can sell a really nice high def time lapse for beacoup money at a stock footage library. I would like to sincerely apologize if any of this information is redundant. But sometimes you have to wonder on these forums Pointy birds Oh pointy pointy Anoint my head Anointy nointy

I did aff 1 there. It is cheaper because they only use one instrutor from the start of the program not the regular two. At least thats how it was when I was there. You also have to do a tandem prior to that and demonstrate altitude awarness. I like my current dropzone more because I feel there is less of a money hungry attitude then SB (I did not have to put a deposit down over the phone each time I wanted to jump AFF) and there is more supervision of AFF where I am at right now. Other then that its a pretty cool dz that is more tandem oriented. Also make sure you can hear your radio before your first aff so you know what the hell to do. They only give you one at sb and the three landings I saw the students did not hear them and crashed a little bit. Pointy birds Oh pointy pointy Anoint my head Anointy nointy

Hello, I have a friend who is a photographer and who asked me to find base jumpers in or around the LA area that would be interested in being photographed as they go about preparing and executing a jump. She understands that this activity is not legal in California so she is prepared to follow all the guide lines that the jumpers set for her. She will provide the parties interested with all the appropriate wavers and take all the necessary risks associated with entry to properties required for the jumps. This is a personal project and will not be published in any magazine or news paper, it is for artistic purposes only. The jumpers identities will not be revealed nor the sites that they use. As compensation the jumpers interested will get some kick ass photos and a place in art history. Please PM me if anyone is interested or has any questions. Dont paragliders and hang gliders use something like this to tell them when they are going up as a result of thermals. Maybe that could be a good place to start looking. Pointy birds Oh pointy pointy Anoint my head Anointy nointy

Hello to all. I am new to skydiving and would like to get into wingsuits as soon as I get my 200 jumps. But before that happens I was wondering if anyone could fill me in on the pants like the ones available from bird-man and other wing suit companies. Do I need less experience to fly them? What are the potential problems? How much do they normally cost? How much of a benefit would they serve in a track? Are they worth it? And etc. Thank you very much Pointy birds Oh pointy pointy Anoint my head Anointy nointy

New with a ton of Questions[cool]
plutoniumsalmon replied to srsand1960's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I am still new at this so I will not even try to give you advice on what system you should buy. In my opinion you should start small, buy all the 'other' gear like the altimeter, helmet, goggles, and audible. As for the rest talk about it with your instructors, a lot. They are best suited to give you advice. Also get a SIM (skydivers information manual) from USPA, you can either down load it or buy it. On the internet check out skydivingmovies.com for the intertainlment factor and education. Watch the malfunction movies and the accident ones and say to your self that a lot of this could happen to you everytime you decide to leave a perfectly good airplane in mid air. Hope this helps. v Pointy birds Oh pointy pointy Anoint my head Anointy nointy -
I jumped a fusion 170 at about 1.24 wing loading and found it to be very nice. Nice openings and good flare. I was thinking about buying it but could not as I ordered all my gear from zoodive on the evolution program and they only carry Icarus and PD. I went with the sabre 2 as it was recomended by my DZO and instructors for better resale value (just incase I end up not using the evolution program) and similar performance to a fusion. In europe flashing your lights is impolite, using your left blinker (sometimes works in the states) is not. Thats usually my first resort. But I am contemplating reinforcing my side mirrors and using them to break off the mirrors of people suffering from llc as I pass them on the right. There are a few things out there that will allow you to get stills and moving picture from one device but I suppose that none of them will serve you for non professional usage as they are bulky or expensive or both. You can use a small 35mm film motion picture camera and print the stills from that ( I believe they used that for Prez Bush Senior), processing and telecine will be expensive. You can try using a DALSA 4K digital film camera but for that youll need one hell of a parachute to land safely. Or you can get yourself a new panasonic HD camera that shoots on P2 cards the 200 something model and pull stills of moderate quality from that. Other than that wait a while for technology to catch up. I am just bored thats why I post Pointy birds Oh pointy pointy Anoint my head Anointy nointy

Pass them on the right, then cut them off, then jam on your breaks...that will teach them a lesson. If they try to do the same to you cut them off again and repeat the steps mentioned above.

Health insurance
plutoniumsalmon replied to plutoniumsalmon's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
What health insurance should I get so that if I get injured whilst skydiving I will not get stuck with a huge bill. How much does it cost. I dont smoke, mid 20's, no health problems. thank you ' Pointy birds Oh pointy pointy Anoint my head Anointy nointy -

The quality of the glass that is used to make the lens is also important. Leica and Zeiss are probably the best in that category. If the camera has auto focus then the motor in the lens used for focusing it also plays a key factor, the better the lens the faster it focuses. Remember also that the smaller the f number equals to a bigger apperture that the lens will open up to, it also means that the lens will be phisically bigger and more expensive. The smaller f number will also require less light and hence less of a lengthy exposure to expose things properly. It will also have an effect on your depth of field, it will make it shallower. ps On canon the better lenses are white or black with a red stripe on their front element. With nikon I believe but am not sure the lenses iare black with a gold stripe on their front elements hope this helps Pointy birds Oh pointy pointy Anoint my head Anointy nointy

The reason why I mentioned the5D, and it does have a sufficiently high frame rate, is because it will not be obsolete anytime soon, and hence will provide mere bang for the proverbial buck for a longer time. It seems to me that lower end digital cameras keep on getting updated every year to something faster, better and cheaper, thus leaving the older ones in the dust. This will of course happen eventually with the 5D but it will take longer. Also the 5D being a rather cheap full frame camera has the advantage of not needing as wide a lens as its non full frame alternative. Having a higher resolution also means that it can be blown up so much more, this can become useful if one decides to provide a poster rather than a small photo to the tandem customer. It could make more money. But then again I could be wrong, after all I dont have much time in the sport, but then again I am a professional photo/film person and that apparently does not count Pointy birds Oh pointy pointy Anoint my head Anointy nointy
