  1. I'm working from home instead of driving to the office - does that count?
  2. I would recommend calling the dropzone you're planning on jumping at and asking them. While in my personal experience it's been very portable, I have friends who have gone to other DZ's after completing AFF and been told the had to go through the new DZ's entire coaching program. Chances are you won't have any problems at all, but if nothing else it's nice to let them know you're coming.
  3. KSUPC (http://www.skydivekstate.com) has some sort of exit shot camera set up on their 182. I don't know the specifics, but they have some photos from it posted on their website, and I'm sure if you contacted them they'd be happy to answer questions.
  4. Glad you got to jump, yesterday was a great day at Tecumseh!
  5. I've only helped find one chopped canopy so far. It landed in a corn field, and I followed it long enough to see where it ended up (without landing in the corn field) and was able to find it immediately. Several of us then went roaming through the field looking for the freebag. I was both very surprised and very happy when I found out the owner had put a jump on my account - it was unexpected, but a nice gesture which I appreciated. I didn't help look for it because I wanted money, but because I was taught that (when it's safe to do so) following down a cutaway is the nice thing to do. I agree with Remi though, I would probably only spend a great deal of time looking for a canopy if it belonged to a friend. In that case I wouldn't expect anything except the same favor in return should I need help finding my stuff some day.
  6. whats an online job?? are you one of those naughty websites allison? An online job is one I can do in my pajamas from my couch, thanks to WiFi Actually I work for www.tutor.com. I tutor math and supervise some other tutors. I'm working on that today since the winds in Wamego are a little high for jumping.
  7. Kansas State University Parachute Club (http://www.skydivekstate.com/) is very close to I-70 a couple hours west of Kansas City. It's a little 182 DZ that's mainly open on weekends, but check their website for occasional weekday jumping. Very friendly people there, definitely worth a stop if you're driving by when they're open.
  8. Anyone know how much the registration fee is?
  9. I have one in my closet somewhere - nothing wrong with it, just wear my full face almost all the time now. I would highly recommend trying one on for sizing before buying. They run a little small. My size medium Z1 open face fits about the same as my size extra small Oxygn full face.
  10. Haha! Well I could, but I don't have that many friends who live around here. I'm also trying to get in some hours at my online job this week so I can afford to jump at the boogie this weekend
  11. Got into KC this evening. Turns out my parents (whose house I'm staying at right now) aren't here, so I have a rental car instead of having to borrow theirs and work around their schedule.
  12. I'm sure you'll have a fabulous time! I jumped at Chicagoland on Friday and there are some great people there. Was the first time I had visited, but everyone was very friendly and welcoming. When will you be jumping? I'll be there a couple times a month for the rest of the summer.
  13. It's not so much about stability, but about fall rate and about having consistency. If you're wearing something that makes you fall fast on one jump and something that makes you fall slow on the next, it will take you longer to learn to control your fall rate. If you're wearing something that's inappropriate for your natural fall rate, you'll spend all your time fighting that and won't be able to focus on other aspects of your flying. If I had to borrow either a rig or a jumpsuit I'd choose to wear my own jumpsuit and borrow the rig. The tight fit and nylon front of my jumpsuit help me a lot. But if I were a different size/shape where fall rate wasn't a concern, it might not matter so much.
  14. Lol. Yuppers. Jesse got those porta-sink things. Does that count?!?!? That's close enough. Thanks Jesse!!
  15. To me it's faster/easier to use an analog altimeter because I don't look at the numbers, I just quickly glance at the angle of the needle. I have no need to know my altitude within 10 or 100 feet in freefall. If it's pointing left I have time to play, pointing down I need to start paying more attention, pointing to the right it's time to track/pull.
  16. Brie and Triscuits, maybe with a little roast beef too.

    Moms day

YOU are related to a woman who won't travel? Are you sure?
  18. I'll get there eventually. It took my first 50-100 jumps to figure out the fall rate thing during the jump, maybe by 500 or 1000 I'll figure it out during tracking too.
  19. Sounds like it fits ok, but you could have an instructor/rigger/gear dealer take a look to make sure. When you're under canopy, the pressure should be on the middle/back of your leg pads, not on the hip rings.
  20. Had a fabulous time - I'm back home in Ohio now wishing I'd had the time and $$ to stay for the 100 ways. Things I learned: - Formation loads are lots of fun!! - Trying to find the person you need to dock on as he's diving from another plane is challenging, but possible once you figure out where to look. - I can't quite come to make myself dive DOWN while tracking to stay next to others in my tracking group. It goes against every instinct I have, even though logically I know it's what I'm supposed to do.
  21. I've used priceline many times for both bidding on hotels and rental cars and for pre-priced vacation packages (sounds like this is what you're looking at). I've never had any problems at all with them - would definitely use them again. With the packages you can choose your own flight times and hotels, and I've gotten some really nice hotels at very good prices.
  22. This is the only rig I've had (other than student gear and a jump or two on friends gear) and I've always packed it that way, through the 3 different canopies I've had in it. Started out packing it like that because my first canopy was a tight fit and it was simply easier to shove the bag straight in than to try and turn it. Worked well, so I've stuck with it. It has on occasion been packed the "regular" way by packers, but I haven't noticed any difference in openings. Of course I jump a Pilot loaded barely over 1:1 - you can do just about anything to it and it will still open nicely as long as you put the slider in the right place
  23. The Wings user's manual says you can pack it either way - I always pack mine the way you described with the bridle looking up at you. Other than following the manufacturer's instructions, part of it has to do with the shape of the d-bag and main pack tray. Some are quite rectangular and only fit well one direction, others are more square when viewed from the side and will fit either way.
