jsut thought I would add most aps (if not all) load from the bottom..which means you have to take the camera off every time you switch film...getting a camera that loads from the back is much easier to deal with.. yoshi _________________________________________ this space for rent.

I graduated in photography from herron school of art... the aps negs are much smaller than 35mm.. the resolution will be the same, but for a smaller area. as someone else said if you dont plan to blow up your pix more that 8x10 you wont notice much of a difference, but 35mm negs are much better...especially for archival reasons.. when the negs are rolled up inside the canister (on aps) they are tightly rolled in...after a few years negatives become more and more brittle and although people havent experienced it much yet because aps has opnly been around for a few years, they will not be useful in making reprints in the future. the best way to keep negs is no use 35mm and put them in 8 1/2x 11 sheets and keep them in a binder. the skycam is great for weekend jumpers bringing home some images to show off to friends, but I suggest a 35mm... I use a minolta htsi plus...retails new with body and lens for around 250-300$ very light weight and has a good lens... uses electronic shutter release and has the rapid fire option... standard zoom lens all the way on wide angle makes for great pix for tandem and freefly whatever... -yoshi _________________________________________ this space for rent.

ok I am on my 8th hour here....time is running thin and I will soon find myself in a nice kareoke bar kickin back beer and listening to myself and others butcher songs throught the evening. sure this job is cush...pays well and I post all day, but it makes for a long day when I pace back and forth "babysitting" the telemarketers. anyways anyone else out there working and sick of it?? I say we unite a nation wide skydiver strike and we all quit work to jump...if the employers pay for our jumps we will come back part time for full time pay!...ok so now I am dreaming... _________________________________________ this space for rent.

any idea what the record for 3-d is? it would be fun to see, and if not too far out of reach to attempt to break it! btw when are you getting to the boogie? -yoshi _________________________________________ this space for rent.

I would be careful as well as how tight you get your pop top. mine likes to wiggle loose afte about 25-50 jumps or so..I tighten it down, but if its too tight you will have a hard pull as well as tightening it too much will cause the pin to bend (mine did a little and now I have to order a new pin) -yoshi _________________________________________ this space for rent.

I have dreams constantly about jjumping..I think its because that is all I can think about when i go to sleep.. usually I have to try to think about something else before I can actually fall asleep... one funny dream in particular..it was the richmond boogie and the ground was moundy enough to be a golf course, but it was all muddy.. I had a bad main so i cut it away then a bad reserve...so I cut that away too.... (my reasoning was since I was light (165#) I could flare my track and land it... it worked great and I came in about 150 miles pr/hour flared my track and turf surfed about 200 yards! everyone stood up in amazement, but I shrugged it off as if I did it every day... fun fun fun, but dont try that at home! yoshi _________________________________________ this space for rent.

High Performace Canopies LOW JUMP NUMBERS!!!!!
Yoshi replied to freeflyz's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I find it kind of funny myself...and yes I know it is Ironic richard that people are comparing high performance canopies to cars. granted there are many more people out there driving and yes there are more accidents in vehicles, but the real point of all of this would be to regulate skydivers, not drivers... Sure I am guilty of downsizing faster than what would be considered the norm, but I do think that some kind of regulationg would help.. perhaps a set of licences detailing work piloting canopies would be a solution. after so many jumps ...you feel you should downsize then you go do a couple hop and pops with a certified canopy pilot instructor and they issue you clearance for your next canopy.. of course this would all cost too much money and in turn raise member dues, cost canopy manufacturures who enforce the licenses money, cost jumpers more to get licensed, and would not keep personal sales of canopies regulated, but hey, I guess we are in a hypothetical situation. yoshi _________________________________________ this space for rent. -
I guess that answers my question..it is really interesting though..I never really thought about air passing through the cells..rather it just going into the cells and stays until landing.. good point.. yoshi _________________________________________ this space for rent.

I just overheard some perople talking about it at my dz.. wasnt sure if it was true...but I thought it made some sense.. the airlocks I know are designed to keep air in the cells..but wouldn't any fabric what so ever in the openings of the cells block air from entering??? -yoshi _________________________________________ this space for rent.

It could be the fact that when it is with other people (not tubes) they are correcting more for what you dont notice. and or when jumping with other tubes in proximity the harder ability to move around makes it more difficult for all of you to stay on the same level??? maybe try to jump with a few people not tugging tubes and tell them to stay stable and not follow you...if you can stay with them then it just might be the added obsticals of more tubes is distracting you? anyways good luck keeping it streight.. yoshi _________________________________________ this space for rent.
-
well luckily most of the time I let crash'n'vern be the tube tugger....so directly I dont have to worry about it... I would rather film and fly around it anyways that tug it... BTW you havnt tugged it yet have you? Ill bring it this weekend if anyone wants to put somthing together.. laers. k-dog _________________________________________ this space for rent.

I only have a few jumps on airlocked canopies, but I did hear that one of the reasons for the steep glide is because the airlocks not only hold air in, but also out...so to build more pressure in the cells the seeper glide attributes to higher pressure on the nose...not completely sure about this, but I thought it made sense. ??? yoshi WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! _________________________________________ this space for rent.

I just got married myself... isnt that the general consensus of most skydivers that once married it all goes down hill.. (I guess most of them had bad experiences) But I can totally relate...my wife definately supports me skydiving...although she has only done 1 jumps (and prob wont do many more) she is really into the idea that I am so consumed by the sport. She even came out to the dz last weekend to study for her boards and it was 110 degrees with the heat index! congrads! -Yoshi _________________________________________ this space for rent.

I made an 18 foot tube. Out of about 10-15 jumps with it I have only let go of it once (it was durring a transition where I was going head down and hooking it on my foot and then attempting to go back to sit flying when poof there it went) Anyways the question at hand is pros and other than obvious cons about deploying with the tube...(I heard it can damage my canopy (friction) Is this something to really worry about or myth? -YOSHI _________________________________________ this space for rent.
-
Being as it is a hand held it does make it a bit harder.. my tips are make sure the tube is almost directly above your head. the first time I flew my tube it took most of the dive to figure this out. the pricipals of sit flying are the same with or without the tube. if you lean forward you go back and vise versa. Are you really proficiant sit flying without the tube? also I was wondering if you deploy with it. I deploy with mine and havnt had any problems yet (knock on wood) also as already said try it with smaller groups with only one tube in the sky so people can follow you where you go. this will also help you learning how to stay going streight down:) -Yoshi DONT CAUSE PAIN TO BROCCOLI _________________________________________ this space for rent.
