Good point. Interesting though it was chartered for the Congolise policeman and their families. Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

CNN's last report said only 7 were missing and 20 injured. The whole thing sound a little sketchy. I realize this a Russian plane but don't they bolt the seats down? Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

wierd for a guy? No. My husband (at the time was my SO) forgot my birthday ONCE. I'm guessing he won't ever do that again. I wouldn't think much of it. Happy Birthday.

I like my batwing although I don't jump it much anymore. I mostly jump my 119 Saphire. It (the batwing) is one of the canopies that if you get line twists, your more than likely gonna have to chop it. I have a 116 with a speed kit on it. It has tons of flare at the end but is extremely ground hungry. Alot of people who have never jumped one will probably tell you not to get it. I changed to my saphire because I was doing some bigger stuff and I was dropping out of the sky too quickly and didn't have alot of glide or hover ability and some people just don't watch for others under canopy. I had to land on a road once because someone didnt' notice me, even though I was yelling at the top of my lungs and the people on the ground could hear me - he didn't and I ended up landing on the road (no injuries). This is not the canopy's fault. Going from a 165 to a 116 is a huge step down. Please reconsider something a little bigger or at least a few jumps on a 150ish, then a 135ish before attempting a 116. One of the first things I was told during the AFF I course, always find something positive to tell the student. Even if they flail all the way, don't pull, and never unstow the toggles, find something positive to say. Obviously this instructor doesn't believe in positive reinforcement. Don't let it discourage you. Some people are just that way. You may want to ask for a different instructor. Good luck! I would stick with square canopy and not an eliptical at first, especially since you will be going from F111 to ZP. I would try a Sabre (1 or 2), a Saphire, or some other square canopy. Going from a 170 to a 135 is a big step down. You should really try a few jumps ona 150 before you try any 135. Good luck, let us know how it goes. I have it on mine also. I have tried Adware and spybot and had our computer desk try to get rid of it and it won't go away. This is criminal! Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle. -

Unsolicited advice and grumpiness
jlmiracle replied to Jessica's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm not trying to be argumentative, just thought I would chime in. You sure sound argumentative j/k Always, always, always, talk to someone you know and trust about something you read here regarding skydiving equipment and training. There is alot of new equipment out there that your instructors and/or experienced jumpers don't know anything about and dz.com is a great place to start to find out some information but don't treat it like the gospel. I personally don't take much from those people who don't fill out their profiles completely. I see alot of people with alot to say but won't say how many jumps they have or what they jump. Maybe I'm just paranoid. Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle. -
Unsolicited advice and grumpiness

Part of the reason I try not to give unsolicited advice is when I had about 6 jumps, I was cornered by a guy who spent 2 hours explaining to me way Racers are the only good container and I will die under anything else. It was kinda a bad experience for me cause he had me pretty freaked out, and he had thousands of jumps and is a really good skydiver. I have 1 jump on a Racer. He rented it to me after I got off AFF. 1996, the movie Drop Zone was on HBO alot. I had my 10 year high school reunion coming up and I got a bug up my ass about doing something exciting. I went to work to find out there were a few people there interested in jumping. July 21, 1996 I made my first AFF (never did a tandem til jump 550) and didn't really like it to much. I felt a little nauseous on opening and thought thank god I stopped moving. One of the other girls I was with had such a good time, I figured I missed something on that first jump so I did level 2, became addicted and the rest is history. Unsolicited advice and grumpiness

If I find out you want to jump Ben's canopy and you don't ask my opinion, I will go get someone who will offer theirs. You see Brent, I don't have to worry about you. You've already figured out most of the bad shit that can and will happen. I have never jumped a Nitron, but have been told by people that have, they fly/land big, so, IMMHO, I would recommend you jump a 170 something a few times first before trying the 150, and I would jump the 150 on a day with some wind (10ish mph). But once again this is just my opinion. If its a canopy question, all I can share are my experiences, and what I have seen and what I know of the jumper. OMG, I am just babbling. I have to go back to work. Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle. -
Unsolicited advice and grumpiness

I experienced all that "unsolicited advice" as a newbie. I have a batwing and used to jump it alot. I was given that same great advice, "your gonna die under that, what a piece of crap", etc. then I said, "How many jumps to you have on a batwing?". He walked away. End of last season, a guy just off AFF came up to me and said "I know PD makes the best canopies, what size would you think I should get". (I jump a saphire). I explained to him that every person has their own opinion on which is the better canopy. I said there is nothing wrong with PD, but I prefer my canopy. He had only jumped PD canopies during his AFF. People who don't know any better are usually the ones to give you unsolicited advice. I don't give advice, I give my opinion and only when asked. I don't give opinions on anything I don't know about. I've never jumped a Hornet but I can tell you who to ask who has (and by the way he like it). In my opinion, best way to handle those unsolicited advice givers, is just smile and nod. -
I' jump and have jumped at non-uspa group member dz's and most are more safety conscience than some group member dz's. Contrary to some dz's statements, the USPA does not "certify" any group member dz's. Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

I couldn't agree with you more here quade. After this happened, I talked to alot of other instructors and its easy for us to say that our responsiblity is over at 2000 ft and I tell my students that, but how many of us would really just let the student go. I've never been in that situation (yet) and hope to never be in that situation. Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

You need to go after the girls that already know how to pack. Trust me on this. I took full advantage of the fact that I dated my first jumpmaster and rarely had to pack. Good luck and start asking. Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

If you keep asking, someone will say yes. Try showing up at the dz when there is a women's event going on (like JFTC). Odds should be in your favor then. Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
