My daughter visits and posts a little of her artwork on this website. Every time the website is open on our computer, it runs very slow and the hard drive sounds "busy" for lack of a better term. The website has been around for a long time and seems to be pretty popular. Is anyone familiar with this website and what might be causing the degradation of performance?

Make a checklist and use it every time, until it becomes second nature. There'd be no shame in that.

85-year-old woman forces intruder to call cops
NewGuy2005 replied to Butters's topic in Speakers Corner
Yup. Pity that if today is typical, some 33 people will be shot dead in the USA in homicides, plus another couple in accidents. Just collateral damage, it's all good. What is the solution? -
Good one, Steve!

Nice First-Timer DZ Near Sacramento?

I made a jump at Davis once when I was in Sacramento. Loved it. -
From Wikipedia: Identity theft is a term used to refer to fraud that involves stealing money or getting other benefits by pretending to be someone else. The term is relatively new and is actually a misnomer, since it is not inherently possible to steal an identity, only to use it. The person whose identity is used can suffer various consequences when they are held responsible for the perpetrator's actions. In many countries specific laws make it a crime to use another person's identity for personal gain. Have you ever had your identity stolen? I think it's a lot less common than TV leads you to believe. First hand experience only. No "It happened to my brother" stories.

I've always heard that you should not put gear in a car's trunk that has carried a car battery. I had a battery in my trunk for 5 days. 1) How true is the above statement? 2) If it is true, does 5 days count? 3) If it does, can I still carry gear if I have it in a suitcase? 4) Most important: Do you think this would make a good mythbusters episode?

I've studied it some more. I think that's what happened. Thanks!!

Went on vacation this week and set the recorder to record a week's worth of new episodes of my kids' favorite show. Confirmed that the setting to record was good. Came back today and found that the only episode that was there was the one that was recorded today. The previous 4 are gone. The DVR is a Motorola that we rent from our cable provider. (Cox) The setting was to "Erase as needed." That might be the problem, but I don't think the hard drive was full. Regardless, we changed the setting to "save until manually deleted by user" just in case. Any idea why the shows were deleted? Any idea how to recover them?

Did anyone ever think otherwise? -
I had an Iced Mocha at the new "McCafe" a couple of days ago. It was excellent and a lot cheaper than S.B's.

I think that's what I'll do until I get a BluRay player with HDMI outputs. Thanks everyone!!

Just got a new Samsung 46" six series HDTV plus a Samsung surround sound system. I've got the cable signal going from the cable box to the surround sound system amplifier via an HDMI cable. I've got the DVD signal going from the DVD player into the surround sound system via a component video cable The surround sound system amplifier is connected to the TV via a single HDMI cable. The cable signal works great but I can't get the DVD to play on the TV. I think I am getting the signal from the DVD player to the surround sound system because the display indicates a Dolby signal plus it shows the speakers which should be working. The problem is that there is no sound or video. I'm fairly sure that I'm selecting the correct input sources for both the Surround sound and the TV. Could the problem be that I'm flowing the signals through the amplifier first? Should I run the signals to the TV first and just run the sound to the surround sound amplifier?

There's also some knowledge that the pilot of the balloon will need with regards to what point on the ascend/descend cycle that you jump.

New skydiver, asking if this is a good deal...
NewGuy2005 replied to skydivecarol's topic in Gear and Rigging
Sounds pretty good to me. -
You're right about it taking a long time for recovery. My observations: 1) Never walk barefoot. Always wear shoes with arch support. No slippers or sandals or anything that doesn't support your arches. Even around the house. 2) Take up walking. Then try running. Exercise really helps 3) Stretch your calves a lot 4) IMPORTANT Avoid positions that allow your feet to point away from your body. Example: setting in a chair with your legs stretched out in front of you and your toes pointed away from you. Three activities that cause you to do this are: Driving, setting in a chair, sleeping When you set in an office chair, pull your feet back to a position that causes tension on your calves When you drive or sleep, flex you feet before you get up and put weight on them. Once again, put tension on your calves before you stand up.
