Well, I won't lay claim to "been there, done that", because I sure have lots more to experience in life, but one thing I've learned so far.... DO WHAT YOU LIKE. Don't worry about money, or cars, or a gated community, or keeping up with the Joneses. It's alot easier said than done, but the rewards are more than you can imagine. If you're really ready for a change and want to be a welder, or the lead McNugget maker, or a birdwatcher, then go for it. Sometimes you just have to take that first step (similar to that first step out the door of a plane) and you'll find happiness you didn't even know were there. I guess. Maybe the term is regional. I've been to boogies where the exits are the same as what we do at home, but just called different things. Then again, it might just be me. True. But the DZ or DZO can. My experience has been that I always had to prove myself when I had my A-license. I've been told I can't jump because of winds, but I jumped in the same winds while on student status (happened in Illinois). I've been kept from jumping for having too small a canopy -- stiletto 150 at 30 jumps (happened in Kansas). My point is that an A license will only get you in the air. The D-license gets you freedom. I play primary caregiver to the general population. Just call 911 whenever your feet hurt from not wearing shoes all day I'll be there. (No kidding - this really happened) I think it's great that you are taking care of your g-ma. Don't put her in a home. They're horrible miserable places. Even the best ones let people rot away and then don't even notice they've been dead for 2 days. Not necessarily true. I work in EMS and we get paid shit. There are plenty of people I know who jump way more than me and they don't get paid jack either. It's all about lifestyle. In a world full of people, only some want to fly... isn't that crazy! --Seal

You're just fighting the system - not wanting to pay for a bunch of licenses that don't mean much. I'm right there with ya. Without the A, you can't jump at other dzs. With the A, you get grounded at other dzs the first time the wind kicks up above 8mph. Since you're only a weekend away from 200, just go straight for the D. Agreed. One tandem does not a skydiver make. Show me an A-license and I'll show you a skydiver. Until then, he's just another whuffo (with way too much money and not much sense). How could a tandem be so much more valuable at Vegas? And $150 for video?? What are they doing over there? Makes me want to go undercover as a "first-time" jumper and see what the fuss is all about? I was taught to do it that way, but I don't. I don't stow it at all - I just let the excess fly. Never had one come unstowed (kocking on head), but switched to RW's new toggle-keepers just in case. In a world full of people, only some want to fly... isn't that crazy! --Seal
