The long knives have started to come out. Fox News host promoted by Trump calls on Paul Ryan to step down Fox News host Judge Jeanine Pirro, whose show President Trump urged his followers on Twitter to watch earlier in the day, opened her program on Saturday evening by calling on Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) to step down. "Ryan needs to step down as Speaker of the House. The reason, he failed to deliver the votes on his healthcare bill, the one trumpeted to repeal and replace ObamaCare," Pirro said in her opening statement. "You come in with all your swagger and experience and sell them a bill of goods which ends up a complete and total failure and you allow our president, in his first 100 days, to come out of the box like that, based on what?" Pirro said. The Fox News host's fiery comments about Ryan came hours after Trump tweeted to encourage his followers to watch "Justice with Judge Jeanine." http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/325810-fox-news-host-promoted-by-trump-calls-on-paul-ryan-to-step-down So first trump praised the work Ryan had done on trump's trumpcare bill. Then trump pulled the dagger from his belt and stabbed Ryan in the back.

"The sea ice cover in the Arctic and Antarctic hit new record lows for this time of year, marking the smallest polar ice caps in the 38-year satellite record, US government scientists said Wednesday... Data from the NASA-supported National Snow and Ice Data Centre (NSIDC) in Boulder, Colorado, also showed that on March 3, “sea ice around Antarctica hit its lowest extent ever recorded by satellites at the end of summer in the Southern Hemisphere.” The disappearing sea ice comes as the planet has marked three years in a row of record-breaking heat, raising new concerns about the accelerating pace of global warming and the need to curb burning of fossil fuels which spew heat-trapping greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.... The Arctic sea ice maximum has dropped by an average of 2.8 per cent per decade since 1979, NASA said. “We started from a low September minimum extent,” said Walt Meier, a sea ice scientist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center.... “Last year was stunningly different, with prominent sea ice decreases in the Antarctic.” This article appeared in the South China Morning Post print edition as: Sea ice cover hits new record low at both poles http://www.scmp.com/news/world/article/2081523/ice-caps-shrink-new-record-lows-both-ends-planet No the Chinese are not smarter than Americans. They and other countries are just more concerned. The US less so and of course there are more anti-science "outliers" or people that refuse to recognize science. In the US. For educated western counties the US is overall 20% less concerned about the environment and warming. Even though US organizations like NOAA lead research in these areas. Posted in this thread before: http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2016/04/18/what-the-world-thinks-about-climate-change-in-7-charts/ Want to Gut Emission Rules? Prepare for War With California In its ongoing jihad against federal regulations, the Trump administration has indicated some interest in targeting the ones that attempt to fight climate change. First in its sights: a funky law that gives the state of California the right to make its own rules on automotive emissions. But because of the way laws and business work, the California exemption is one of the most powerful environmental tools in the world. So California’s not going down without a fight. A quick history lesson: When legislators wrote the 1963 Clean Air Act, they acknowledged that California already had pollution-fighting rules, and that its environmental situation was especially dire. So they gave the state the right to write its own, stricter standards. “It’s hard to overstate how important the ability for California to set its standards has been to public health and clean air over the past 40 years,” says Don Anair, deputy director for the clean vehicles program at the Union of Concerned Scientists. “Time and again, California’s been willing and able to move forward.” https://www.wired.com/2017/03/want-gut-emission-rules-prepare-war-california/ California lawmakers don't think this fight is emission impossible The Trump administration could move at any time to revoke California's right to impose stricter auto emissions standards than the federal government does, and the state's senators are already mounting a fight. Congressional sources are hearing conflicting information on whether and when the Environmental Protection Agency will revoke California's waiver. The EPA is refusing to comment, with a spokeswoman saying, "We don't have any information to offer at this time." California has signaled its willingness to fight Trump in court and has hired former Attorney General Eric Holder to assist with challenges to the president's policies. No administration has tried to revoke an existing waiver issued under a Clean Air Act for California to set its own auto emissions standards. So there is no legal precedent for how a judge could rule, said Richard Frank, an environmental law processor at the University of California, Davis. https://phys.org/news/2017-03-california-lawmakers-dont-emission-impossible.html

This is a very Passive Aggressive way to govern. I agree, but when side wants more government and the other side wants less, compromise looks a lot like gridlock. It should always be smart government to deliver the most cost effective solutions to all the people. Why has trump not gone after US drug companies. How they use the statements that research in the US justifies outrageous drug prices. That US prices are 3-4 times higher than New Zealand for the same drug. He has made statements to such effect many times. Or is it that lobbyists and the Washington swamp has already led trump's morals astray?

Brent, you know everyone here loves you and tries to help you. But news coverage by major TV networks. Is not a quantifiable determinate of scientific fact. The US is such a leader or research. A shining star of science so to speak. NOAA, NASA, etc. We all know that sooner or later, you will see the light. Sure science can be wrong. But in the absence of contrary facts. Which is altogether different from Mrs. Conway's "Alternative Facts". Facts should direct intelligent conclusions.

What's the difference between trump and Colin Kaepernick? Colin has beliefs and values that he stands up for. "Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick reportedly donated $50,000 to Meals on Wheels, a group that provides food for seniors in need. Kaepernick, currently a free agent, has promised to donate $1 million to organizations that help at-risk communities, and to support a campaign to raise millions of dollars for drought relief in Somalia." http://insider.foxnews.com/2017/03/22/colin-kaepernick-donates-50k-meals-wheels-sarah-palin-reacts trump steals from charities for which he receives money for.

New HHS secretary - tattoos are for drug users

Ok take this with a grain of salt because of the source. I don't know how reliable VICE is. These traits are reported in other websites. Which of course means absolutely nothing, re, the environmental thread, rushmc, etc. "Why opiates are proof of God's existence: "Were it not for these drugs, many common and miraculous surgeries would be impossible to either undergo or perform. In my opinion this is no coincidence at all. Only a higher power and intellect could have created a world in which substances like opiates grow naturally." How pornography can lead to fear of dick: "Another recent example I can cite is that of an adult woman who was allowed to see a pornographic movie as a child. As an adult, she has suffered from a phobia to male genitalia." On whether Goths are predisposed to drug addiction: "Goths usually smoke cigarettes and many practice an odd sort of devil worship, although kids in the 'punk' culture may not have any interest in these non-mainstream beliefs. Not all Goths are drug addicts, but a high percentage experiment with all types of drugs, including hallucinogens... When you see that your child has become interested in body art or has a fascination with the Goth or other subculture, then be on alert, because your child is likely headed into rebellion and possible drug experimentation." Fleming was known for believing an Onion story about Planned Parenthood building an $8 billion "abortionplex" was real, and propagating phony information he read on Breitbart on the House floor. BuzzFeed also pointed out that in an interview, Fleming recounts making his 16-year-old son take a breathalyzer test every time he came home after he caught him drinking. "Believe it or not, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Psychological Association have come out against the use of home breathalyzer and drug testing," Fleming said, but then called his parenting techniques "necessary in today's environment." https://www.vice.com/en_ca/article/trump-healthcare-appointee-opiates-are-proof-god-exists Sounds as if he and trump are two peas in a pod. I can see why he was appointed to lead a govt. dept. -
Good story in NY times. Some good pictures so read the Times article directly if you can. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/03/24/world/asia/china-air-pollution-smog-climate-change.html?hp&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&clickSource=story-heading&module=first-column-region®ion=top-news&WT.nav=top-news&_r=0 Climate Change May Be Intensifying China’s Smog Crisis By JAVIER C. HERNÁNDEZMARCH 24, 2017 BEIJING — Chinese leaders, grappling with some of the world’s worst air pollution, have long assumed the answer to their woes was gradually reducing the level of smog-forming chemicals emitted from power plants, steel factories and cars. But new research suggests another factor may be hindering China’s efforts to take control of its devastating smog crisis: climate change. Changing weather patterns linked to rising global temperatures have resulted in a dearth of wind across northern China, according to several recent studies, exacerbating a wave of severe pollution that has been blamed for millions of premature deaths. Wind usually helps blow away smog, but changes in weather patterns in recent decades have left many of China’s most populous cities poorly ventilated, scientists say. The findings, some of the first to link climate change to smog, may escalate pressure on Chinese leaders to move more swiftly to shutter steel factories and coal-fired power plants amid rising public anger over smog caused by soot and gases like sulfur dioxide. The research could also push China to assume an even more forceful role in international efforts to curb climate change by reducing carbon emissions, at a time when the United States, under President Trump, appears to be backing away from the issue. “Everyone used to think that controlling smog hinged on reducing regional pollution,” said Liao Hong, a professor at Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology and the co-author of a climate change study published this week. “Now it’s clear that it will require a global effort.” As public outrage has grown in China over dirty skies and a rash of respiratory illnesses linked to smog, Chinese officials have redoubled efforts in recent years to fight air pollution. They have dispatched teams of police officers to inspect factories, closed down hundreds of coal-fired power plants and imposed limits on driving and activities like outdoor barbecuing. Premier Li Keqiang, speaking at the annual session of China’s legislature this month, vowed to “make our skies blue again” and promised to take further steps to reduce the use of coal. But even if Chinese officials push forward with ambitious plans to cut emissions, they may struggle to offset the effects of climate change, the findings suggest. Ms. Liao’s study, which examined data on pollution in Beijing from 2009 to 2016, predicted that weather conditions associated with severe smog would become increasingly common in coming decades. The study did not account for possible reductions in carbon emissions under the 2015 Paris Agreement on climate change. Scientists point to the so-called airpocalypse that fell on Beijing in January 2013 as an example of the effects of climate change on smog. During that episode, Beijing and dozens of other cities in northern China were shrouded in toxic haze for days. Despite emergency measures to cut emissions, the concentration of PM2.5, particles of a size that can penetrate the bloodstream, remained dangerously high. Researchers now attribute the resilience of smog during that period to unusually stagnant air conditions brought on by climate change. The air was the stillest in three decades during the heavy particulate pollution in 2013, according to a study published this month in the journal. The study found that the melting of ice in the Arctic, combined with increased snowfall in Siberia, contributed to changes in wind patterns across Asia that winter that failed to clear the air over northern China. Yuhang Wang, an atmospheric scientist at Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta who was a co-author of the study, said the results suggested that Chinese officials would have an especially difficult time curbing air pollution in the winter, when weather conditions are most conducive to smog and more coal is burned for heating. The Ministry of Environmental Protection pledged this month to put in place stricter policies to curb winter air pollution. Beijing is set to host the Winter Olympics in 2022. “In the long run, emission reductions of both pollutants and greenhouse gases are needed to mitigate the winter haze problem,” Mr. Wang said. The effect of climate change on air pollution might extend beyond China. In a study last year, for example, Mr. Wang found that warmer and drier conditions might lead to longer stretches of ozone pollution in parts of the southeastern United States. (Previous studies have also shown a link between climate change and ozone pollution.) The Chinese government has emerged as one of the leading voices on fighting climate change. As the Trump administration hints that it might move away from international efforts to cut emissions, environmentalists are looking to China, the world’s largest emitter of greenhouse gases, to play a leading role in curbing the use of fossil fuels. The government has pledged to go more aggressively after polluters and to cut excess production in heavy industry. Already, some progress has been made, with particulate pollution falling nearly 10 percent in the Beijing area over the past three winters, according to government statistics. But many cities, especially in the north, continue to experience severe bouts of smog, resulting in school closures, traffic accidents and increases in hospital visits. Enforcement of environmental laws remains lax, and steel capacity actually rose last year, contributing to a surge in air pollution, a Greenpeace report found. The growing body of research on the links between climate change and air pollution might serve as a rallying cry for China to take a more aggressive role in cutting greenhouse gas emissions. But it could also give the government another excuse for the country’s pollution problems, analysts said. “In light of growing local protests against poor air quality, linking this issue with climate conditions outside of China underscores the fact that the pollution problem has international sources in addition to local,” said Marc Lanteigne, a senior lecturer on Chinese defense and security issues at Massey University in New Zealand. Environmentalists said the role of climate change in exacerbating smog was an important finding. But they underlined the need for local governments to do more to reduce emissions. “It won’t change the overall conclusion that air pollutant emission is the direct and interior cause for this air pollution problem,” Dong Liansai, a climate and energy advocate at Greenpeace in Beijing, wrote in an email. “Much more action is required.”

So if the presidential election was stolen by fraud. Should trump reimburse the costs? i.e. about $2.6 billion. Which according to Forbes would still leave him with a $1 billion left over. Or should there be punitive damages of $1-2 billion added as well, for the damage to the US reputation. For disruption to government. https://www.opensecrets.org/overview/cost.php http://www.newsweek.com/donald-trump-net-worth-billion-2017-forbes-571508

I guess I'll just remain a skeptic. The "60 scientists letter" dates from 2006. Its 2017. Every major Canadian government and quasi-official environmental organization recognizes climate change. In Canada the federal government has been met with ferocious resistance to the new national carbon tax. "Three groups are asking the federal government to not implement a countrywide carbon tax. The Canadian Taxpayers Federation, the Saskatchewan Heavy Construction Association and the United Steelworkers union Local 5890 have sent Prime Minister Justin Trudeau a letter outlining how a federal carbon tax will hurt Western Canada. The federal government is proposing a carbon price of $10 per tonne in 2018 that would rise to $50 per tonne by 2022. Todd MacKay, the Prairie director for the federation, says a carbon tax will mean less money for working Canadians. Union spokesman Courtland Klein says many industries have not been given a chance to show their commitment to reducing Canada's carbon footprint. Shantel Lipp, president of the construction association, says there are no alternative fuel sources for their industry. "A lot of the construction camps are powered off propane. The equipment, the construction asphalt plants, the crushing plants, all of that is powered off diesel and there are no alternative fuel sources," she said." http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/saskatchewan/sask-carbon-tax-letter-1.4028709 With such resistance the whole country could be at war soon.

As always, don't bother: "Watts Up With That? (or WUWT) is a blog[1] promoting climate change denial[2][3][4][5][6] that was created by Anthony Watts in 2006.[2][3] The blog predominantly discusses climate issues with a focus on anthropogenic climate change, generally accommodating beliefs that are in opposition to the scientific consensus on climate change. Contributors include Christopher Monckton and Fred Singer as guest authors.[7] In November 2009, the blog was one of the first websites to publish emails and documents from the Climatic Research Unit controversy, and a driving force behind its coverage.[7]... In 2009, Watts Up With That was involved in popularizing the Climatic Research Unit email controversy,[10][18] wherein emails of several climatologists were published by a hacker. ... How Americans Think About Climate Change, in Six Maps By NADJA POPOVICH, JOHN SCHWARTZ and TATIANA SCHLOSSBERG MARCH 21, 2017 The link at the bottom is the best way to view this story as it has six maps describing the polls of Americans. Americans overwhelmingly believe that global warming is happening, and that carbon emissions should be scaled back. But fewer are sure that the changes will harm them personally. New data released by Yale researchers gives the most detailed view yet of public opinion on global warming. Americans want to restrict carbon emissions from coal power plants. The White House and Congress may do the opposite. A majority of adults in every congressional district in the nation support limiting carbon dioxide emissions from existing coal-fired power plants. But many Republicans in Congress (and some Democrats) agree with President Trump, who this week may move to kill an Obama administration plan that would have scaled back the nation’s greenhouse gas emissions. Nationally, about seven in 10 Americans support regulating carbon pollution from coal-fired power plants – and 75 percent support regulating CO2 as a pollutant more generally. But lawmakers are unlikely to change direction soon. Bob Inglis, a former Republican congressman from South Carolina, warned that committed activists — like the Tea Party — can shape politicians’ approaches to issues like climate change. “Those are the ones who can take you out at the next primary,” he said. He lost his primary in 2010 to Trey Gowdy, a Tea Party candidate who attacked his climate views. Most people think that climate change will harm Americans, but they don’t think it will happen to them. Most people know climate change is happening, and a majority agree it is harming people in the United States. But they don't believe it will harm them. Part of this is the problem of risk perception. Global warming is precisely the kind of threat humans are awful at dealing with: a problem with enormous consequences over the long term, but little that is sharply visible on a personal level in the short term. Humans are hard-wired for quick fight-or-flight reactions in the face of an imminent threat, but not highly motivated to act against slow-moving and somewhat abstract problems, even if the challenges that they pose are ultimately dire. Texas and Florida are vulnerable to climate change, but residents are split on how much to worry about it. In Florida, the effects of climate change, including sunny-day flooding, are being felt across the state. But the state shows a distinct north-south split in the level of concern over global warming, and it is not a simple Democrat-versus-Republican distinction, said State Representative Kristin D. Jacobs, a Democrat. Four southeast Florida counties — Miami-Dade, Broward, and Monroe and Palm Beach — stand out because of their concerted effort to work on climate issues together and to discuss it in nonpartisan terms. South and West Texas, as well as the state’s Gulf Coast, are more worried about climate change than the rest of the state — and politics alone cannot explain it. South Texas favors Democrats, West Texas is decidedly more mixed, and the Gulf Coast in November 2016 was solid Trump territory. One thing is shared by those disparate parts of the state: They have felt the brunt of shifting weather patterns, including rising temperatures, coastal hurricanes and western droughts so long and severe that some West Texas towns now recycle wastewater for drinking. The state’s highest concentrations of Latinos can be found in the south and west, which may also partly explain the difference in climate views. Roberto Suro, a professor of public policy and journalism at the University of Southern California, suggested age as a possible factor. Latinos are “a young population with the median age significantly younger than the white population, and younger still than the African-American population,” he said, noting that young people have embraced climate science to a greater extent than their elders. Just 33 percent of Americans surveyed said they discuss global warming at least occasionally with friends and family – and 31 percent said they never do. But there are distinct regional patterns. (we found THE TRUMP SUPPORTERS) In the American West, much of which has been affected by drought and wildfires, residents are more likely to talk about climate change. New England states, and not just the liberals of Massachusetts and Vermont, talk more about climate, as well, along with coastal South Carolina, which lies in the path of many hurricanes. But aside from Southeast Florida, which has put so much effort into making discussion of climate change a priority, much of the rest of the Atlantic Coast is less likely to engage in climate discussions, despite recent increases in tidal flooding. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/03/21/climate/how-americans-think-about-climate-change-in-six-maps.html?hp&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&clickSource=story-heading&module=photo-spot-region®ion=top-news&WT.nav=top-news&_r=0

There to promote her brand....er....look after daddy.......check out the bedrooms. "Ivanka Trump is reportedly getting an office in the White House, but is not assuming an official role. Ivanka Trump's office will be on the second floor of the West Wing, Politico reported. She is also reportedly getting security clearance and government-issued communications devices. But her attorney said she will not have an official position in the White House or get a salary. Instead, she will serve as the president's "eyes and ears" and give advice, attorney Jamie Gorelick told Politico. Gorelick also said Ivanka Trump will follow the ethics and records retention rules that government employees adhere to. "Having an adult child of the president who is actively engaged in the work of the administration is new ground,” Gorelick told Politico in an interview Monday. ... “While there is no modern precedent for an adult child of the president, I will voluntarily follow all of the ethics rules placed on government employees," she said. The arrangement raises questions about possible conflicts of interest. “They're not saying she's going to voluntarily subject herself to ethics rules to be nice,” said Norm Eisen, the former ethics czar under Obama. “There’s recognition that they're in very uncertain territory here. The better thing to do would be to concede she is subject to the rules. It would create some outside accountability, because if she can voluntarily subject herself to the rules, she can voluntarily un-subject herself to the rules.” Trump still owns her fashion brand, but she stepped down from her position at the company. Gorelick said, regarding divesting from her business, that "we don't believe it eliminates conflicts in every way." “She has the conflicts that derive from the ownership of this brand," he said. "We’re trying to minimize those to the extent possible." http://thehill.com/homenews/administration/324896-ivanka-trump-getting-white-house-office-but-no-official-position Perhaps Germans don't understand. Trump has lots of duties and responsibilities as President. I have yet to see him actually DO any of them. He's a fraud. As I've said - He pulled off a hell of a good con. Unfortunately, he's now President. He can't just 'take the money and run' like usual. One of his promises was to eliminate IS. The Iraqi Prime Minister was visiting the WH today. He could have delivered a coherent message on how he was going to do that. Instead all the coverage was...covering up his lies. Russiagate. Likely bragging up how great he is on giving Iraq an exemption on the travel ban. Increasing coverage, reducing costs for the trumpcare bill. There is supposed to be a vote Thursday. The budget, has had no discussions. Meanwhile trumps legacy has slipped a bit. "US president Donald Trump’s fortune has fallen by about $1bn to $3.5bn over the past year, as measured by Forbes magazine in its annual list of the world’s billionaires... The fall in Trump’s net worth is due to a drop in the value of office space in Midtown Manhattan, where the president owns about 10 buildings. Forbes said Trump had fallen from the world’s 324th-richest person to 544th. “Forty percent of Donald Trump’s fortune is tied up in Trump Tower and eight buildings within one mile of it,” Forbes said. “Lately, the neighbourhood has been struggling (relatively speaking).” Trump has refused to publish his tax returns to show the true scale of his wealth, but during the campaign he claimed he was worth “in excess of $10bn”. Dolan said that in previous years the real estate tycoon had challenged Forbes for underestimating his fortune. “We contact everyone we can to give them the opportunity for feedback. Over the last 31 years we have been compiling this list Trump has given us a lot of feedback, believe me, ‘You guys are too low I am worth far more than you say’,” she said. “He didn’t call back to dispute our estimate. I would hope that running the country is more important to him right now than Forbes’s value of his net worth.” https://www.theguardian.com/business/2017/mar/20/forbes-billionaire-list-trump-loses-1bn-as-elite-club-welcomes-233-new-members
