  1. Thank you! All I know is how easy & natural my first AFF jump seemed. The S/L seems quite unnatural -- almost forced -- and I've made 15 S/L jumps with no real progress. If I'm going to spend the money, I'd at least like to progress and move along toward my A license. This means I'll have to switch to a different dz for a short time, but my current dzo and JMs are very supportive of that. They know I'll be back. And, they just want me to learn, regardless of how that happens. One other girl at our dz had to switch to AFF and she is now a great skydiver. I think I shall give it a try ... 2. I have made 17 jumps ... 1 tandem, 15 static lines and 1 AFF. I'm extremely frustrated with my progress (or lack thereof) and wanted to get some opinions. During the AFF jump (last weekend) I was completely stable and my instructors never had to stabilize me once. They even commented that I was "stable as a rock." It felt more natural and was much easier for me. I was supposed to come off the SL today, but still having stability issues. Today this resulted in severe line twists -- and subsequent fast spin -- which scared the sh*t out of me. I am seriously considering going forward with AFF to fix my stability problems. What are the pros and cons of sticking with my current method of SL and going to delays versus continuing with AFF? In case it matters, I'm a very petite female (5'1", 97 lbs) and you can view my profile to see the gear I'm jumping (my own rig). Any advice is appreciated!! 3. I'm sorry you're feeling down. Sometimes getting exercise puts me in a much better mood. I know how you feel, though ... the last few weeks have been tough for me too. Spend time with friends, stay busy and do something physical. That should help things look up for you.
  4. Glad you're having a good time! One who looks for a friend without faults will have none. -- Hasidic Saying
  5. It was incredible just having a harness that fits! One who looks for a friend without faults will have none. -- Hasidic Saying
  6. Yep, I've already been reminded of that! One who looks for a friend without faults will have none. -- Hasidic Saying
  7. Today I made my first 2 jumps on my new rig. It made a world of difference from the huge student canopy I've been jumping!! It is so nice to have a harness that fits properly and a canopy that actually allows me to fly.
  8. 1:2:1 No jumps Saturday - too cloudy. Made my first 2 jumps today on my new rig!! Hence, the case of beer owed.
  9. Currently on my student progression I'm on a 190 (started on a 210 and downsized after 2 jumps). Next couple will be on a 170 then a 150, then the 135. One who looks for a friend without faults will have none. -- Hasidic Saying
  10. No, I won't jump the 135 right away! We'll put a bigger main in it for a while until I'm ready to downsize. I'm 5'1" and weigh 97 lbs, so it won't take me terribly long to be ready for the 135. It will hold a bigger main and that's what I'll do until I'm totally ready for the 135. One who looks for a friend without faults will have none. -- Hasidic Saying
  11. My rig got here and I couldn't be happier! It was actually a gift which makes it even better. Today I got to try it on and it fits nicely ... so much better than the student rig I'm using right now! It's a Vector container with a Sabre 135 main and a Raven-M 150 reserve. Very good condition ... we gave it a full inspection today. I'm soooo happy!!! One who looks for a friend without faults will have none. -- Hasidic Saying
  12. 1:0:0 Sky just didn't open up yesterday until later in the day, after our dzo decided to close the dz. Today would have been perfect, but I had already made plans with friends. Oh well ... still a great weekend nonetheless.
  13. Coffee right now ... but after jumping today, it will be a Miller Lite or 2 at the dz!

  15. 0:1:0 A little windy as you can tell from reading my scary jump post! One who looks for a friend without faults will have none. -- Hasidic Saying
  16. Virgo. I don't really put too much into all of that stuff, but I do believe I'm a typical Virgo based on the description of the sign. One who looks for a friend without faults will have none. -- Hasidic Saying
  17. No kidding! I'm jumping a Raider 190 student canopy right now, and today's winds proved just how much I'm underloading it. My JM talked about moving me to a 170 for a while ... sure hope so after today! One who looks for a friend without faults will have none. -- Hasidic Saying
  18. I'm happy for so many things today! My new rig that is supposed to be here next week; my family & friends; and my good health just to name a few. One who looks for a friend without faults will have none. -- Hasidic Saying
  19. I agree. I loved it! One who looks for a friend without faults will have none. -- Hasidic Saying
  20. Today I made jump # 8 on my S/L training. The weather was perfect, but the winds were steady at about 8-10, gusts to 12. I weigh 97 lbs but have had success so far in mild winds. My exit was terrible (de-arched and rolled before deployment), and once under canopy, I bled off altitude with S-turns. Once I made my final approach, I could no longer get any forward penetration. I was flying backward!! I picked out a nice little grassy spot off the end of the airport to land, just before the tree line. I have never been so terrified under canopy before. However, I made a perfect landing and even stood it up! What a day.
  21. Congrats on your 100th jump!! One who looks for a friend without faults will have none. -- Hasidic Saying
  22. 0:2:0. Made jumps 6 & 7 this weekend. Still on S/L but hopefully that won't last too much longer. Yesterday's weather was perfect here in beautiful Alabama. One who looks for a friend without faults will have none. -- Hasidic Saying
  23. Congrats!! I, too, have just started jumping. What method are you going to learn by? I'm learning by static line and I love it. I hate that you have to wait all winter to start, but just think how much more you'll appreciate that next jump.
