  1. That's fantastic!! It's great to get such a positive report on you Drew! Now, I fully expect to read about your fling with the nurse(s) as soon as you are up to posting ! Rest when you can, kick ass in therapy, and heal quickly! G. Jones "I've never been quarantined. But the more I look around, the more I think it might not be a bad idea."
  2. That was in Walker California, about 1-1/2 hours south of Reno. It was to be the (42 yr. old, as I recall) pilots last season as a firefighting pilot. According to the preliminary report, the wings separated prior to the fire, and per to the maintenance records, this same aircraft had stress cracks repaired earlier in it's history. The NTSB is looking into a similar wing separation in the same type of aircraft some years back. Pending the outcome of this investigation, all firefighting aircraft of this model have been grounded. For ShitMonk

Monk, I'm a relatively new jumper, and even I know that it's the jumpers ultimate responsibility for the spot. Do the best you can, and if the jumper(s) didn't learn how to spot for themselves then maybe a long spot wil motivate'em ! Don't stress it, and allow yourself a learning curve as everyone else does! Not again

It's a damned good thing the founding fathers of this country didn't think like you, or we'd all still be singing God save the queen! Once I took a look at your profile Frank, I understood why you advocate gun control. Well, this is america, not British Columbia, and we do things a little differently here. The crime rate in Washington D.C. sure did drop when gun control took effect there, now didn't it! Washington has one of the highest violent crime rates in the nation. You can see the same result in every instance where gun control has been applied. In Florida (the first state to pass a "must issue" carry permit law) gun control advocates predicted a sharp increase in the homicide rate due to more people not only owning firearms, but carrying them concealed on their person. Imagine their surprise when the violent crime rate fell! About this same time, foreigners vacationing in the state became the target of violent crime (the only ones that criminals knew for sure weren't carrying). Florida chose to begin issuing permits to visitors, and lo and behold, the crime rate against visitors dropped! The wild west mentality that gun control advocates warned would consume the state never materialized. Not only that, but the violent crime rate dropped...explain that!!! Many states now have similar "must issue" carry permit laws in place, and have had results similar to the state of Florida. It is worth noting that the citizens of these states are the ones who pushed for, voted for, and enacted these laws. Guess that's the difference between the U.S. and B.C. huh, Frank. In closing, I will tell you that I have a carry permit in my home state (NV), and I carry daily. Some will say that people who carry are paranoid, and that's their opinion. I will tell you this: I see carrying in the same light as wearing a seatbelt. The people who wear seatbelts do it in case they need it to save them from injury or death. Would you ever get in a vehicle in the first place if you thought that you would actually need that seatbelt? I know that if I ever thought that I would have to use my firearm on a given day, I'd never leave the house in the first place! It comes down to this...I'd rather have my gun and not need it than need it and not have it. You folks in B.C. can do what you want when it comes to firearms, but don't expect the U.S.A. to follow suit! G. Jones "I've never been quarantined. But the more I look around, the more I think it might not be a bad idea."
  6. I went through AFF at a DZ that was at 5k ASL, and I would'nt even consider a jump from that altitude without oxygen. You didn't say if you had it or not, so I'm assuming that you didn't. I smoke, and I generally notice shortness of breath at about 10k. Even with oxygen, at 18k I feel as though the regulator could be cranked up a few litres per minute. BTW, you don't always notice the effects of hypoxia, and people don't all react the same to it. If you do notice it, it would be safer to ride down than to jump. G. I Am Skydiving...

Dave, sorry to see that my wishes for safe landings didn't work for you. Well...I guess next time I'll have to demand them and see if that works ! Hope your knee is better today. G. Jones "The Mayfly lives only one day. And sometimes it rains..."
  11. BEEEEER!!! Seriously Dave, my advice is to see your Doctor monday morning, unless the pain is too much to ride out until then (in which case, go to the E.R. today). It may be a simple sprain, with stretched ligaments, or there may be torn ligaments or cartilage. Until then I suggest you stay off the knee. Preferably, sit with it elevated, with an ice pack on it as much as possible until you see the doc. Good luck with it man! G. Jones "The Mayfly lives only one day. And sometimes it rains..."
  12. Here's to a speedy recovery, and that you're jumping together soon. Keep your chin up! G. Jones "The Mayfly lives only one day. And sometimes it rains..."
  13. I'd still be shooting IDPA matches, and reloading ammo every waking moment to keep up

    I Am Skydiving...

No jumping for me this weekend. Hate to miss the boogie at Skydance, but I've been at the dz 3 of the last 4 weekends and it's time to recouperate (physically and financially )! To everyone who will be jumping this weekend, fun jumps and safe landings! G. Jones "The Mayfly lives only one day. And sometimes it rains..."
  15. Well, I've just had to chase Michele off line. She came on to say thanks to everyone, which was sweet, but not good for her health (seeing as how she has one eye bandaged, and a headache) for a day or two. If anyone sees her on-line, please pm her and remind her to take care of herself until she has recovered enough to be staring at a screen (just for a day or two).Your help will speed her recovery! Yes, I know I sound mean....whatever it takes to make sure she gets some rest over the next several days. Thanks! G. Jones "The Mayfly lives only one day. And sometimes it rains..."
  16. I beg to differ Sis. I've seen it interfere with work when a particular ex co-worker would have a private moment just squirming around in her chair ! ROFLMAO at the memory!!! G. Jones "The Mayfly lives only one day. And sometimes it rains..."
  17. Just talked with Michele and thought everyone would like to know the surgery went well. There was more bone involvement than the surgeon expected, but they managed to get everything and the pressure on her eye has been relieved. She's sore and very tired, but otherwise well, and sends her thanks to everyone for the good vibes, warm thoughts and prayers. She wore a skydiving shirt in, and was talking to the surgeon about the 5 way Saturday (trying to explain a "standing rib roast", lol!) until she went under. She will be recouperating at home for a few days before returning to work, and for those used to seeing her smiling face (and her very personal look of terror on the skyvan ) at Perris, she should be released to jump in about six weeks (methinks a full face demo from square one may be a good idea though). Personal note to Dick Mcmahon: Michele asked me to let you know that the angels have better accuracy landings than she does. They hit their mark
  18. LMFAO!!!! Don't know how I missed that one! Next time Michele, you sit across from me . G. Jones "The Mayfly lives only one day. And sometimes it rains..."
  19. Viking, that's Linda on the left, and Lisa on the right. Not sure who the guy is though, it's not me or Nick. G. Jones "The Mayfly lives only one day. And sometimes it rains..."
  20. My thanks to Skybytch, Michele, Linda (hot tamale), and Nick (although I don't believe he posts here) for a GREAT day at Perris Saturday! Michele for being a sweetheart (and for working through her fear), Nick for the coaching (and his sense of humor), Linda for organizing the 5 way and jumping it with us (hell, even the funnel was fun, and I learned a lot !), and Lisa for being so cool, and such a kick in the ass! Can't wait to see you all again! G. Jones "The Mayfly lives only one day. And sometimes it rains..."
