Alcohol, caffeine, nicotine (all 3 in moderation now, and my Dr. still raises holy hell about them),Tenormin, Mavik, Digitoxin, Lipitor, The occasional dose pack of steroids, Allegra (seasonal), 1 aspirin per day, and a daily multi-vitamin. Yes, I'm cleared to jump (barely...I was threatened with grounding about 6 mos. ago by my cardiologist). And no, I don't use any illicit drugs. Because the fact that he is an instructor has nothing to do with the crime. Because rape is rape, regardless of who perpetrates it. And yes, in my opinion, "Man arrested on suspicion of rape" would've been a better header for the article. I am offended anytime the media sensationalize a story to the detriment of one group of people. Yes...Priests included. Perhaps you could explain how this is good for the skydiving community as a whole, but I fail to see any logic in it other than attention grabbing. I've read this same newspaper cover-to-cover every day for the last 18 years. The headlines have naught to do with what I read. I filter out the bullshit as I read it and decide for myself what is useful information...and the fact that he was a skydiver was a useless piece of information. As I said, a rapist is a rapist. Regardless of his occupation! As for the price of advertising, I could care less. If the paper reaches a price that I am unwilling to pay, I can get the same news in the C.C. Trib. Many years ago (many, MANY years ago!) I used to eat them quite regularly. 18 years ago this christmas, a friend and I ate 9 grams of liberty caps in about a 3-4 hour period. About 24 hours later we came down. They are a lot like a mild form of LSD. They are somewhat hallucinogenic depending on the strength, and the quantity you ingest, so be in a good mood if you're gonna eat 'em. Find a good movie to watch (Monty Python's "In search of the holy grail" was always a favorite to watch while "shroomin" with friends). You should find yourself laughing until your jaws cramp! Also, you may have some stomach pain (sore, or cramping) as you "come down". I've been told that this is due to a chemical not unlike strychnine that the magic shrooms produce. Greg

An AP article in today's Reno Gazette Journal has a bold type header reading "Skydiving instructor arrested in rape case". According to the article, the man was arrested in connection with the rape of a 22 year old prostitute in Oakland. Other than the header, and the opening sentence identifying the city in which he worked (thus, the dropzone), this article (not to mention the crime itself) has not one damn thing to do with skydiving! This type of attention-grabbing sensationalism just pisses me off to no end! I'd like to find who was responsible for allowing the header and bitch-slap the asshole!!! Greg

On a serious note, all ex wife jokes aside, the most shocking moment I've had was a decapitation in a head on, on the Rubidoux bridge in Riverside county. RFD arrived before we did. I was working as an EMT-1A with Goodhew paramedic in Riverside and we were dispatched to a T/C with injuries on the Rubidoux bridge. The Paramedic on the unit (Dave Nace) was first to the lead vehicle, (a pick-up truck) and I was hot on his heels. The FD had an extrication blanket over the occupants and one of the passengers had an arm exposed. Dave immediately palpated for an ulnar pulse, and finding none, he snatched the blanket back to check for a carotid. The kid had no head. The passenger in the middle and the driver both survived with severe injuries. It's been 22 years, and I still see it sometimes in my sleep. Greg

OLD! I'm 40. Take another look at those 18 yr. olds from this perspective. When I think that I could be their father (O.K.... no jokes assholes!! All my kids are present, and accounted for! ), it makes me re-think how I look at my own parents, and how they must feel! Greg
