That's all fine and dandy until you're out in the middle of the Nevada desert where there are NO radio stations for hundreds of miles. Then you can actually take advantage of the peace and quiet to THINK. I was canoeing with a small group on Sunday. One of them, the young guy of course, was listening to music on his new phone/text messager/music box/calender/wonder box. He couldn't hear the gurgling of the water. He couldn't hear other people trying to share conversation with him. He didn't have the free brain power to enjoy the wonderment of nature. He was off in his own little world. He was a zombie... iPods make people stupid. (There, that ought to spark some controversy.) You have it backwards, I think. Especially since they make books with titles like "iPod for dummies" and "An idiot's guide to iTunes". I feel confident that I could even teach a cockroach how to operate an iPod.
